I live with chronic pain I broke my neck when I was 17, I have Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and Dupuytren's Contracture, plus other health issues and my last visit to my Dr she told me she had to lower my Norco from 10/325 to 7/325 because the CDC are forcing her to? Maybe if you lived with chronic pain you'd think twice about denying people who suffer!

Many with Chronic Pain are going to become suicidal. Some patients may become heroin addicts to treat chronic pain. I am aware of two 70 year olds in Southern NJ (both in wheelchairs) that buy heroin for that reason. THIS IS A CRIME !

I have widespread osteoarthritis. My pain medication allows me to continue to work. My work is part of my identity - it adds great meaning to my life. Not all pain patients are addicts. My medication helps me be productive. I'm not hanging out on the streets shooting up. Chronic pain patients have been lumped in with recreational drug users. It's discriminating. Allow doctors to help the people whose lives are improved by their care. Do No Harm.

My husband suffers from chronic pain and was treated like a total drug addict for trying to use marijuana to REDUCE his opiates and since he legally was using medical marijuana, his doctor cut him off narcotics totally. He suffers everyday. I hate this system for him...and for me. People in real pain aren't always the nicest spouses usually - either. Thanks a lot for ruining my husband's life and our marriage. All over a couple of low dose long acting pain pills a day - I hope there is a place where people who deny pain meds to people now - suffer the pain they caused later. I really do.

I had gone to the hospital ( Cannon Hospital in Linville, NC) and was transferred to a larger one. Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC. I had been suffering from extreme pain in my upper legs and hips. After two day of treatment including pain management at the larger hospital. The Dr came to a poss conclusion the my problem may be a cortisone deficiency. Which after a short and very quick web search found out that sometimes extreme upper leg and lover abdomen pain is associated with this. Just to sum me up a bit, I'm the type of person who will be given pain meds that should last me a few weeks will last me mts. I have no criminal record of drug abuse or charges. I have no drugs in my system from illegal drug use. The very night the Dr formed his initial diagnosis and soon after the 2nd shift nurse came in, my legs and hips began to ache again. I asked for something for pain and was informed that all my IV pain meds had been pulled. I was really taken back to say the least. If my meds had been pulled for my pain why was I even being kelp in the hospital? All the medication that was charted for me I already had at home. And my further exams to diagnose my problem could have been scheduled at a later date without a need to be hospitalized. This also touches on a much larger issue at hand. Hospital fraud, If drs are just keeping persons in the hospital and not adding ANY extra treatment. Why are the insurance companies being charged for no services rendered? I know there is a drug problem in the US. But it seems a very slippery slop when Drs begin to generalize or make bias and unjustified decisions about any patient. My understanding of the oath a Dr takes says that he is responsible for treating the 'WHOLE' person. The entire reason I came to the hospital was the unexplained extreme pain in my hips and legs. I was so excited the day he told me he may have found the solution to my situation. What really bothered me though was the fact that before treating me or diagnosing me properly my pain meds were pulled. Well the ones helping the most were pulled. As a 'whole' my pain is included in that. Isn't it? Why give me a day or two of pain management then remove it just as u feel we may be on the brink of ending the pain by treating the actual cause? Is there something I am missing here? I really feel that this system is wrong. I don't have the answer but I know that I became a part of this unwanted attention at the cost of my own pain. I also know that the entire problem doesn't lie in your hands to solve. That is why I will forward this to my insurance co, asking why they are going to be expected to pay a bill on a claim for no service rendered. I will also forward this the the hospital the service took place alone the the national medical board as well as the local NC state board and of course not miss the Obama care along with the National Health Foundation. Not to forget the biggest drain on our national debt Medicare and medicaid. Thank you fo

They are not taking into account the patient deaths that will result from suicide when people are forced to live with chronic pain. Most of us are on the edge of suicide anyway. Despicable!

I have had chronic pain for over 20 years and I am being cut back on my pain meds, because my doctor fears the DEA. He has no idea how horrible I feel. Putting a sheet on my legs hurts like hell. My quality of life is..... what life I should say. I am so lost right now, and i'm sure so many others too.

Just a few thoughts: I don't smoke, am not medically obese, I am not on the opiod merry go round & Kaiser, in their infinite wisdom, turned down my hip surgery after months of pre-op planning b/c I live alone. I swim & am physically as fit as possible w/degenerative arthritis & I am on Medicaid now at 60 yrs of age. The 1st dr told me to take up pilates & yoga refusing x-rays. After 1 yr they finally took 2 x-rays & said I need surgery. WTF? Is this even legal??? I need it & prepped for it & they waited until 2 weeks before surgery to cancel it....b/c I live alone & do not have help at home. My oral surgeon who actually has patients in severe pain complains that the new Surgeon General/opiod drug czar is causing more problems then he is fixing. Some people have undeniable severe pain...just ask any oral surgeon. Why attack doctors for trying to help where they can. I hope the clueless wonders trying to resolve this issue look closely at the Drug companies. Billions of $$ tells an educated person that a pain med can indeed be invented & designed to kill pain & not cause addiction issues. That makes more sense for the welfare of the population than inventing damned viagra. I lived w/socialized medicine for many years over seas. THIS IS DISGRACEFUL AMERICA!!!

I have had chronic pain from failed surgeries x2. I have been going to pain clinic for 12 years, and was controlled enough to be able to work, although I can't do anything else. Now my pain meds have been cut in half and I'm not going to able to work in this excruciating pain! My last visit to pain clinic, the PA was yelling at me she wasn't giving me more drugs (I didn't ask) and I was going to have to live with it, nothing else they can do! I'm going to have to find new pain clinic, I am not going to be treated like that! I am not a criminal and I refuse to be treated like one! All of us that have tried to do it the right way, go to doctor, go thru all treatments and still have miserable pain, we are not criminals! Its so interesting that our pain can be treated, but they won't do it!! Don't they take an oath?

I am a chronic pain patient whose pain was successfully managed from 2000-2014, when my Dr. stated he had to change my medication because I did not have cancer and therefore should not get the amount of opiate pain medication I was on. I have lived for 2 years now, under medicated and in constant pain. I don't know how much longer I can take it.

I was cut by 30% the amount of pain meds when I went to the pain doctor appointment before I was going in for back surgery. My surgery involved cutting in two different places in my back to remove a neurostimulator that was installed incorrectly. My pain doctor reduced my pain meds by 30% even though he knew I was going to have this surgery in the coming few days. My neurosurgeon was really upset and gave me the strongest dose of a numbing medication that can be given. I forgot the name. I had to wear a wrist band with a warning to not give me any novacaine or other type of this medicine because it would kill me. This numbing meds were the only thing that saved me from more excruciating pain than I was in. My neurosurgeon flat out said it was only a guideline not a mandate to cut down on pain meds and my pain doctor was NOT in favor of getting me the correct dosage of pain meds for this type of surgery. I went for my next pain doctor's appointment, and he cut my meds again! This time in 1/2. I am now below the guidelines that the DEA have recommended! The pain doctor knows that I am going in for a hip replacement, and this was his solution to control my pain? I have lupus, severe osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, as well as other autoimmune diseases. I have a degenerative spine where my cervical vertebrae sit bone on bone, and my thoracic down to lumbar to SI all have bulging discs as well as bone spurs etc. I don't understand why the CDC thinks they know what is best for people who suffer chronic and severe pain.

I am a retired Federal Investigator who, for 24+ years fought the "War on Drugs." I suffered 2 On-Duty traumatic injuries that resulted in a failed spinal surgery. I've been through 2 "so-called" Board Certified Pain Management Doctors. I am treated like a criminal, forced to signed Pain Medication Contracts/Agreements, forced to provide urinalysis and then fight with the Pharmacies to obtain the legally prescribed pain medications. Never in my life would I believe that my integrity would be unjustifiably challenged, without recourse. I agree that the DEA Diversion Investigators need MANDATORY medical training. I also disagree with the LIMITING OF PAIN MEDICATIONS. OUR BODYS ARE CHEMISTRY SETS THAT NEED TO BE TREATED ON A ONE-ON-ONE BASIS. People need to understand that just because we look normal on the outside DOES NOT MEAN THAT WE ARE NOT IN PAIN. States have allowed the sales of recreational Marijuana but Chronic Pain Patients are discriminated against when for an opioid medication that works for our pain. It also breaks my heart to see prosecutorial misconduct as demonstrated in the Late Dr. Benjamin Moore's case. http://www.aapsonline.org/painman/mooreashcroft.htm For all my fellow Chronic Pain Patients, KEEP UP THE GOOD FIGHT! Godspeed

I hope that people who are way smarter than I have begun the process of litigation over the DEA's amd CDC's current opiate guidelines. I certainly believe we--people who are now forced to suffer NEEDLESSLY, have a case. My personal story is similar to most. I see a "pain doctor" who is obviously being forced to not treat his patients' pain. And to add insult to injury, now the DEA has decided that Kratom will be illegal. One would think the government learned a lesson during prohibition. But apparently not. I am a 66 year old woman who had years of opportunity to abuse drugs. And did not. Now the government has decided that I will have to live in pain for the rest of my life. I honestly cannot believe the stupidity and harmful decision making in D.C. These folks should truly be ashamed.
