I don't believe the DEA has any business in our health care. What happened to privacy and trust between Doctor's and patient's? A person experiencing chronic pain is already suffering, it is inhumane to cause more harm. One can't win for losing any more. Even plant based medicine's are under extreme scrutiny. We lose our med's and seek natural remedies which are very effective and oft time's safer and then the DEA comes in and takes those as well. Why the war on people in pain? Our rights as citizen's are being taken from us by an entity (DEA) that is over reaching. Why is this even allowed? Stop the DEA Nazi regime. -

This is so true.. I was a drug and alcohol counselor and the theory was 'harm reduction.' Many of these people will do just as stated, even suicide. If you have never suffered this you cannot know what you are inflicting on patients. Look on internet....Just two years ago DEA spokesperson said they would never take right to pain meds from doctors, only go by laws, which at that time did not prevent doctors discrepancy.. Where are the doctors and legislators to pretect those WHO ARE CHRNOIC PAIN SUFFERERS AND NOT ADDICTS?? There IS a difference.REPORT COMMENTS

After using a fentanyl patch in Nrw York without problems for nearly 11 years, I guess my pain from degenerative. arthritis, neuropathy up bpth legs, degenerative disc disease, and wasting syndrome nnot from HIV must be just fine according to the government. I say this because I have been informed, without warning, that I just don't need it anymore! Five orthopedic surgeries. Now I need another to fix a past surgery! I guess ibuprofen solves everything. I hope the sarcasm can be detected. I am not laughing. Medical marijuana is beyond my reach in New York because I rely on SSD and NY medicaid for expenses due to these conditions. These "insurances" wipe out nearly one-third of my SSD income. Medicare is going up I hear, whether rumor or not. There is NO cash for mmj anyway. I do not sleep at nightt. I cannot leave my home very long. I am inundated with pain that will never go away. I cannot walk straight or far. Get real! What if you or a loved one needed opiates. to enjoy a decemt quality of life? I am 61 years old and get this NOW. I hurt. I do not snort or shoot these drugs. I am a 46-yr old on DISABILITY with degenerative disc disease who was, without notice, withdrawn from the Duragesic patch and oxycodone (as needed) a year and a half ago without explanation. I then spent a summer as the personal pincushion of a "interventional pain specialist" who ultimately performed a rhizotomy. Now, I walk with a cane. I have recently been to an ER for an additional back injury where they gave me 12 tramadol (practically a placebo). My new internist refuses to prescibe anything. I am now seriously considering seeking out heroin, or suicide. The pain is just consuming me like a fire from within. Please! Help the chronic pain sufferers!REPORT COMMENTS

I live in pain from spinal diseases. I was afraid to even ask for help with pain because I didn't want to be labeled and also didn't want to be treated like a drug addict by a pain management doctor. I hear horror story almost daily in my spinal stenosis group where people get kicked out of pain management for sometimes no reason. What really bothers me and scares me is the future. I can't function now what's the future going to hold. Congenital spine diseases are incurable. So is MS and other diseases and conditions. I heard of so many sucides from chronic unbearable pain. This is very real for so many people with incurable diseases. Yet even with the MRIs and medical history chronic pain patients are not taken seriously many don't ever get help. I don't think the people at the CDC and DEA have a clue what life is like trapped in a diseased body. The chronic pain patients are not the problem. We are not the illegal drug users not the heroine addicts. We have proven real daily suffering. Yet getting help has become impossible because of stereotyping people the actually need help with horrific pain. I don't even get to walk or do simple things. I can't work I am like millions of others that are trapped in a sick body. How can this be happening how can this be justified. How can we survive. God Speed.REPORT COMMENTS

My pain doctor saved my life and if it were not for pain medications I would not be here. The thought of targeting pain clinics by DEA is absurd. These doctors are highly trained specialists in their fields and have the knowledge, experience and know-how to bring people back to life. Should their hands be tied by governmental bureaucracy? As a chronic pain patient, I have gone through every known procedure and treatment available to ease my pain after an injury in which 90% of my neck is held together with hardware. I was a lucky one; I retained all normal functions with limitations but the pain remained. While using narcotics, I worked 60 hours a week, maintained a household as a single parent, finished graduate school and put my three children through college with one being a doctor. Does this sound like an addict or someone in danger because of the narcotics? No. The public has been misled with the DEA and media comparing pain patients to drug addicts. Those who die from narcotics do not get the drugs from doctors.; they buy them off the street, liquefy them and shoot them. Others buy the drugs in altered from or use them in combination with other drugs. Instead of investigating these cases properly, all who use narcotics are clumped into the same category. There has been no direct study comparing the number of deaths from pain patients who use properly use narcotics to the number of deaths from people buying them off the street and/or altering the drugs. The dedicated and honorable physicians are now treated drug dealers and has to stop. Let them do what they are trained to do; relieve pain. Compare this to someone being in an accident and in severe pain but are denied access to narcotics;would the public put up with this? If pain patients are restricted from using narcotics there will be a big spike in deaths for many will commit suicide rather then suffer severe, deliberating pain on a daily basis. These highly skilled doctors are now at risk themselves. That makes two groups innocent groups of people being treated like criminals. Let the doctors do what they do best; save lives of those living in severe pain.REPORT COMMENTS

The people who really suffer from Dr's not prescribing pain medicine are the true chronic pain patients. If anything, cracking down on all Dr's, not just the ones that are really messing up, forces MORE people to either turn to heroin and street drugs, or illegally buy pills from those that do get them. This war on drugs is a travesty. Honest, good people can't get the help they need - and honest, good Dr's cannot treat their patients according to what would be best for them to have the most functional and fulfilling life because they don't want to have their licenses yanked or whatever other BS thing the DEA does to them. Last time I checked, DEA agents don't have medical degrees. SOMETHING HAS TO CHANGE!!!! Not all, but some people, are using heroin because they need pain relief!!! So is it logical, to very intelligent individuals like yourselves, to think it's more dangerous If a person gets pain medication from a Dr, who can monitor what and when and how and the amount of meds a patient gets, or, to have the same individual buy heroin, not knowing that the unregulated substance, which has been spiked with fentanyl or animal tranquilizers, and they OD so fast that they have no chance of staying alive unless someone is able to administer naltrexone to them within a few minutes? In the past month or so, the fentanyl and other mix-ins are making it more and more difficult for naltrexone to save people and help the revive them from an overdose. In some cases, what they have ingested is so strong that multiple doses of naltrexone isn't even saving them. It is MUST be recognized, by our country and government, that the answer to this opiate/opioid crisis is not to keep leaning on legitimate medical professionals who are treating their patients as they see fit (with their experience, and heck, even their medical degrees!). To see what does fix the problem, let's look at what some other countries have done - Panama had an absolutely horrifying drug epidemic about 14 years ago. What did they do that changed everything, to where now they have a very very low rate of drug abuse and overdoses? They legalized all drugs and then, instead of sending these people to jail, they offered rehab and treatment. Now they have an extremely low rate of OD. Canada just decided to let Dr's prescribe heroin to treat people who are severely addicted, because they can regulate what is in the heroin, so as they titrate the patient down and off of it, that person who is trying to get better doesn't buy a bag, mixed with an elephant pain medication, that is 10,000 times stronger than morphine, and die from using it. Taking away pain medication from those that truly need it, causes suffering, hopelessness and depression. One who lives in terrible pain all the time and is given no help or relief, comes to face one of three choices: To commit a felony and buy illegal drugs or meds from someone, to just continue suffering every minute of their lives -or to commitREPORT COMMENTS

The sub helped tolirate that's about it. DEA investigates my dr Tuesday. Nobody called to tell me or the other patients anything. Note on doorm. Closed until further notice. Now wtf do I do? Never had to turn to street drugs until netting the damn sub control. I'll be sick or dead by midweek unless I buy street drugs. Nobody at the clinic was charged. A dr that used to be there was accused of over prescribing opioids. Extremely pist. I never asked for any of this. I'm sick of being n paying for drug test like I'm some kind of criminal. Mam and Sirs, yes their are people abusing doctors and meds. You surely cannot punish all for what some are doing. I have had chronic pain for years, When a ladder kicks out and drops you twelve feet onto six and ten inch staggered water lines, felt and sounded like my back cracked from tail bone to neck. I felt pretty good after a few days. I was young. Injury number two and probably the most painful, I was using a power saw to try and remove a stump. Saw kicked back, into my right led and foot. Life flight to me to Vanderbuilt, three surgeries, saved foot and it has never stopped hurting until I met my Doctor whom really helped. Then I fell and broke right hip. Pins and screws lower back L4-5/ L5-S1. Bone graph failed to grow no help here. Taking my foot off verses meds. I want my doctor and leave me on meds, I am fifty nine years old. Here is the kick in the gut. I was Maintenance Supervisor with the company I worked with. I was allowed to take my meds as needed, I was on the payroll, with great benefits. Now the company decides to pull the NAFTA move. Shut us down and lay us off. I have not found a job since. No one would hire me, I was a liability. My body is really messed up now. It's been ten years now that I have not worked. Disc levels are eat up with Stenosis foot, well I have ulcer's on the bottom of it for years now. This one is been on my foot three years next month October. How would you people handle it if you had a sore on the foot bottom you can lay a quarter in. Kind of sickening to even think about. I have the metal rod and ball where I broke my hip but I have said enough. I don't really think anyone will read this or any of our e-mails. Were the old, the useless, wasting SS. The only one who cares for us is our doctors and our families. We are labeled buy the meds we take. Please do this, Let our doctors make the call about meds not a group of people that do not even know what chronic pain is much less ever had to live with it. Thanks for the time.REPORT COMMENTS

Have you ever had to live with it? I have severe fibromyalgia, severe osteoarthritis in my neck, shoulders and lower back and without the use of pain medication I would not be able to live a decent quality of life. As long as your physician is managing the medication and the patient is in true chronic pain, there should be no reason not to treat the patient with pain medication. what you are doing is cruel and will cause a major uproar in our country and a rise in the use of illegal drugs.REPORT COMMENTS
