You see, the Norco isn't a very powerful drug. It's not like I'm asking for Oxy, or Morphine, or even more Norco....just the 3 per day to take just enough of the edge off so that I can continue my life. It is unbelievable the hoops I am being forced to jump through just to get medicine I need. I fear I am not going to be able to get it. I refuse to get Marijuana. I don't want to get high, I want to get medicine to get me just above the "I can't bear this one more second" level of pain. I want to be able to think and drive and work and be just barely comfortable enough to keep the handgun beside the bed and not on the bed next to my dead body. Will someone please try to figure out what happened to the U.S., why we would rather have people killing themselves to get away from pain, whether it be by handgun or by getting street drugs to ease pain? Will someone please figure out why laws are being made to prevent people like me from getting some quality of life? Will someone please figure out why my doctor is too scared to treat me with a small amount of Norco when I have never reqested more than the 3 I've been on for years nor have I ever requested more powerful drugs? Will someone try to fix this even though soon it will probably be too late for me?REPORT COMMENTS

Twenty years ago, the 4 of us were innocently on our way back from my 5 year old nephew's birthday party on a Sunday afternoon when a drunk driver ran a stop sign and caused a collision which sent us all to the hospital. I have lived with back pain for all 20 of those years. However, I am a tough chic and suffered through it always keeping a full time job and going to school for 8 years all while being a wife and mother the best I could. About 4 years ago the back pain was getting worse, but I could handle it. Then the pain began to radiate down my butt and into my legs and feet. Within months, my whole lower half was in pain, unbearable pain. I had back surgery due to herniated discs and severe stenosis. They did a laminectomy, discectomy, and facetectomy at L4-L5. 18 months later they did the same thing on 3 addtional levels with total open back surgery. This was just 2 months after a total hysterectomy that was done because of a serious problem. I had no choice but to go back to work the day after my hysterectomy and back to work within 2 weeks of my 2nd back surgery. We are good people. We are fighters. We are survivors. We are non complainers. We accept our fate no matter how unfair or unbearable it seems. My husband, since his car accident 10 months ago has been on Norco. I have taken Norco for about 3 years. I take just what I need to be able to get through the day without shooting myself in the head to end the suffering. I am prescribed 3 per day. My husband cannot tolerate pain as well as I do, and he is prescribed 5 per day. Sometimes I may only need 1 during the whole day and then 1 at night. However, if we have too many in our bottles or we have waited an extra 4 days once our month's supply should have ended, then we must be doing something illegal. We must be saving them to sell, or hoarding them to o.d. or something. I thought it was a good thing to end up not having to take all 3 everyday, apparently not. Then I am forced to pay out of pocket for urine drug testing to be sure I am taking the pills. Even though my doctor says, "your back is messed up. It will always be messed up. You need to go to a pain management doctor. I'm not a pain management doctor." Seriously? Now I have to go see another doctor and of course my $6000 deductible is not paid, so I will have to pay all of it, including all the tests I guarantee they will want to run even though they were done last year. My doctor only agreed to prescribe 15 days of pills because my pain management doctor's appointment is in 15 days and he can take over doing what I feel should be her job. However, the pain management doctor already said he never prescribes meds the first visit. So in 15 days I will likely be in so much pain that I won't be able to stop crying and will be unable to function at all. All I will think about is how much better it will be if I just end it all. The only way to stop the pain is to end it all. Once and for all. You see, the Norco isn't a very powerfREPORT COMMENTS

Why do you want me to die? I work hard. I pay my own way, vote Republican, raised two children who both work and both pay their own way. My son has spina bifida and is self-catheterized. Because we all pay our own way and were each raised to not take handouts and became better people because of it, my son's medical supplies take the majority of what's left of his income after he pays rent. In order for him to financially survive, he went to a program during high school so that he would be a certified welder upon graduation. He is 22 now. At his last doctor's visit, he was told he has the spine of a 45 year old and he must change jobs. So he switched to fork truck driving which did not pay enough to cover rent and monthly medical supplies, so he is back to welding. We pay thousands of dollars per year in health insurance premiums. However, we still have a $6,000 deductible a 75/25 benefit, and a maximum $12,500 out of pocket expenses on top of those premiums. So in a nutshell, we pay approximately $20,000 per year on medical expenses, unless we have a good year and don't reach our maximum. Even then, we pay many thousands of dollars every year. My husband had a bicuspid aortic valve and had a mechanical aortic valve replacement when he was just 38 years old. He served many years in the United States Armed Forces, but he went undiagnosed all those years. He has a magnitude of other health issues and was in a bad car accident 10 months ago when a truck rammed him from behind at 55 mph while he sat innocently at a red light. Still, he works 40 plus hours per week and doesn't have any other choice because his job provides our medical insurance, although my husband pays a large percentage of the premiums. My son, my husband and I are all on my husbands policy, so we try to split the deductible and out of pocket expenses, but it's very taxing on all of us. I went to college and then graduate school, so I have a decent job, but together, the 3 of us make less than $100,000 per year. I have $80,000 in student loans. With that payment, my house payment, and my rent payment for my business, we pay $3,000 per month. That's $36,000 per year. Add the $20,000 medical expenses that's $56,000 per year. The household income of approximately $95,000 is gross, income taxes are about $25,000. That's $81,000 per year paid for taxes, student loans rent for the business, and the mortgage. That leaves $14,000 a year or approximately $1150 per month. We spend $400 per month between the 3 of us just on gas to drive to and from work. We spend $300 per month for car insurance. We spend 400 per month for groceries and necessities. That's $1100 total. So just that alone puts us at 0 for the month. We haven't included phone, electricity, garbage removal, or any other bills here either. Therefore, medical bills don't all get paid on time and then we get bad credit and we end up in a downward spiral but always manage our way out of it. Twenty years ago, the 4 of us werREPORT COMMENTS

Why they choose not to listen/understand/sympathize is beyond comprehension. No one (who really ISN'T and addict) WANTS to take drugs that ultimately damage bodily systems and turn you into a zombie, but neither do we want to waste our time and money receiving meds that simply DO NOT WORK! It is the doctor's job to find effective treatment without imposing their unwarranted assumptions and judgmentalism.REPORT COMMENTS

If Why should they be forced to suffer and profiled unfairly especially when a legal DOCTOR decided what is needed to have maximum and safe relief for the level of pain the patient is experiencing DAILY??? I'm so ashamed at our medical world and what they are doing (DEA) to those who count on their prescriptions and medical technology so that they are be able to live the best life possible. The Government does not have a degree in medicine. Drs are well aware of the possible dangers and they also know their patients. Let them do their job!REPORT COMMENTS

I have been subjected to insults, accusations, abuse, misogyny...all because doctors do not want to listen or treat, and do not want "to get sued or be investigated." Stop persecuting people in pain! Yes, patients are going to pain clinics- because doctors are funneling them there. End the stigma, humiliation, sexual abuse, and financial exploitation that patients are enduring.REPORT COMMENTS

In addition. I have a bone spur in the middle were I am not fused and do not have ANY leg reflexes and can barely walk with my right leg due to the nerve compression on the nerve going to my right leg. I have tried numerous PT, including water PT, exercises, chiropractor, acupuncture, and even tried hypnosis along with back injections without any improvement. With my doctor stopping my pain medication, I will live in horrific pain the rest of my life! Would you want to live this way? Patients who are in need of continued pain treatment should not be penalized by people who abuse pain medications and I follow my doctors strict use of pain medicines which were prescribed to me. To all chronic PHYSICAL PAIN humanbeings,,what freehold nj.,,writes is true 1000%,,,,what is also true is we must keep up the fight..38 people a day now have been forced to choose death as their only means of stopping their physical pain due to governments willful refusal to acknowledge the death and physical suffering they have willfully caused..Our doctors are been brought up on false charges, trump up charges etc,,and loosing everything to the forfeiture laws,,,The government, dea, are literally getting rich off of our deaths,,and the deaths of our doctors practices...I asked my own senator,,ie Tammy Baldwin,,to please allow a box on all death certificates for ,''death due to untreated physical pain,'' I was told ,''prove it'',,like our deaths our a joke,,,my life in chronic PHYSICAL pain was a joke. However other countries are watching, and thee Prez,,,knows it,,,which is why he just vetoed a bill to put MORE restriction on our life saving MEDICINES.. We are being heard,,finally,,,but we have to keep it up,,,The U.S.. government has done a lot of damage and death,,,So we have to keep this up for a long time to repair all the damage our government has done to all chronic physical pain human beings..''They'' need to get back to the basic truth,,that no-one can physical feel the physical pain of another humanbeing, thus NO-ONE has the right to decide who suffers in physical pain or how much suffering one is toendure .As a so-called humane society, we error on the side of compassion, humanity and a civilized society. We use the tool we have,ie,medicines,we do not judge who is allowed to suffer in physical pain, and who is not. There are somethings humanbeings have NO RIGHT to decide, and torture is not an acceptable answer.Every new rule, regulation or false arrest of our doctors will forcible cause someone somewhere to suffer in agonizing physical pain,,and that,is inhumane!!,,thats defines torture.Since our government has willfully perpetrated this torture,,they are now in violation of the U.N. doctrine on torture and genocide,,look it up on the U.N site,,it is true what N.J.. writes,,The forcible death of a group of people by a government is genocide. The forcible endurement of physical pain onto any humanbeing is torture, thus violating every doctrine the U.N puts out. on torture & genocide..The United States of America has willfully committed torture and genocide onto all humanbeings who's only crime according to them is having a chronic PHYSICALLY painful condition..It needs to stop,,now!!!REPORT COMMENTS

I had a horrid childhood nobody ever should go through, but I broke cycles and fought becoming another statistic.I was not going to let 9 years of childhood sexual abuse a dad who ran off a mom who became a alchololic after that nope I wasn't going to become anything like my childhood. I fought long and hard for years to get over that. I never became a teen mom I didn't drink or use drugs I got married went to nursing school had children I was getting it all and then I fell in 2008 it never healed I was told the l4/l5 disc was blown and I had DDD. Long story short life's never gotten better I've never abused my meds to get high. I've been humiliated and shamed and talked down too because I had been treated properly then everthing changed. So I did what I've always done pushed it done toughned up and stopped all opiates. I was now a private nanny for 2 famlies plus a girl scout leader and soccer coach. But it caught up to me my back I couldn't move so I began my Tylenol and Motrin even though I've had Ulceerative Colitis for years and those Drs told me no NSAIDS ever again. But I had to function they were safe right? Wrong I almost died from toxic levels of the very drug the Drs told me to use for pain Tylenol. I had 100 times the normal amount my liver wasn't breaking it down and somehow I had eaten a hole in my stomach Ulcer... So I was out back on pain meds but again the process was awful. I felt like I was doing something bad? If I didn't follow the exact orders like injections of my spine for pain that didn't help or take the antidepressant with it, monthly drug tests then counting my pills to make sure I wasn't selling them or taking to much to then go to a pharmacy like Walgreens who treats you like dirt and then annouces loudly he won't fill a narcotic 3rd. Because it's one day early even though I'd gone there every month without fail. I told him last month had 31 days I only get a 30 day 3rd. He said not my problem with drug seekers. I'd never seeked a drug well I'm I did try pot once as a teen and once in my 20s but hated it. Then dealing with insurance and what they cover you have to do A.B.C.D before anything else. So you truly are suffering you withdraw from friends and family. You do become very depressed looking at my life I wondered why I had been chosen this path was God punishing me for what happened when I was a child? Of course I knew better but something about being treated like this and undertreated for pain makes logic go out the window your sprit gets broken. The financial downfall it plays because you can't work anymore gosh you tried but it makes it worse. Insomnia at night because no you cannot sleep when you are in pain. My kids see me hurting and it hurts me because I was so active I tried so so hard. I want people to understand I'm not lazy, I'm noooo whimp I'm not crazy or seeking attention. Hello. I suffer from debilitating panic attacks and crippling anxiety every day. It is not something therapy can manage. It's just there. Therapy can help with my problems, but it cannot stop the anxiety. My psychiatric doctor is a nurse practitioner who is scared stupid to prescribe a benzodiazapine, which I need to stop panic attacks. I don't need it every day, but they come randomly. Because of your idiotic and reckless policies and because of the DEA, I am someone who really needs a benzodiazapine, but cannot get it. You are ruining my quality of life just like you are ruining the lives of those who suffer chronic pain. You think everybody who needs a schedule 3 or 4 drug is a drug seeker or doctor shopper. I just want to live my life in peace, but you are making damn sure I cannot do that. I was written an SSRI which helps manage my general anxiety, but does nothing for my panic attacks whatsoever. Luckily, you have not put them into schedule 4 category and I was actually able to get partially treated for my condition. Unfortunately, the only class of drugs that will stop my daily panic attacks, benzos, I cannot even obtain. Just get rid of the DEA altogether. It is a huge tax money sink with no positive returns. All they do is ruin people's lives. They force physicians and psychiatrists to write sugar pills for their patients that don't even begin to manage their symptoms. It is ridiculous. And god forbid somebody gets caught with a pill that had to buy off the street because their doctor is too afraid to write them medication they desperately need. They will incarcerate people who are suffering instead of even attempting to get help for them. People with chronic pain or panic disorder are now forced to either suffer forever or turn to drinking, marijuana, or the black market. These medications don't cost very much anymore (opiates and benzos), so I can clearly see why you have chosen to crucify physicians over this... it is because of money. Screw us people who suffer from these conditions, right congress? I hope you never have to go through what I have or what someone with chronic pain has to go through.
