I moved from Fl to Greenville, SC and can't find a dr to write my scripts. The Drs don't care that my heart could stop and possibly die from withdrawal of my medications I've been taking for years. The dr said he will get in trouble with the DEA. So now I'm stuck, I have Spinal Stenosis, Degenerative Disk Disease, Herniated Disk, Fibromyalgia, Lumbar-sacral pain and I've been taking Dilaudid and Duragesic patches to cope with my pain and try to live a normal life. I am on disability because of my pain. I don't understand how I'm suppose to live with this ongoing pain with no medication. The dr I saw at Spine and Pain Care in Greenville, SC on Woodruff Rd. did not care of the withdrawals I will have tomorrow. He couldn't care less, Drs took an oath to help their patients and he didn't give a damn about me or if I died. He treated me like a druggie when I've never had a problem in the 10 yrs I've been taking my medication.Mar 10th, 2016Someone from Lincolnton, NC writes:
I was discharged from a pain clinic in October 2015. I was a patient there for 6 years. I saw the same lady doctor for 4 of those years and had a great doctor-patient relationship with her and the entire staff as well, not one single issue. She left the clinic in 2014 under what I would describe as unusual circumstances. The last appointment I had with her she made the comment that I should choose a clinic where the primary doctor was licensed. Soon after that the clinic changed their name to a pain and wellness clinic. At this point in time I was taking 60 mg of morphine 3 times a day, when I first started going there I was taking 30 mg morphine twice daily. I one day requested they write me for only 2 of the 60 mg per day because I was sleeping all the time and I felt like a zombie. The PA said no, keep taking 3 per day. I was also taking hydrocodone for break through pain as well as baclofen for leg pain and gabupentan for back pain. It's all about the low back, a number of L5-S1 failed surgeries which eventually resulted in a cage fusion in 2000. I forgot to mention the reason I ended up at the mercy of the pain clinic life style. OK back to the pill mill. I could not tolerate all of that morphine continually at that dosage. I was literally a zombie if and when I was even awake. To satisfy my pill count I did take one out every day and kept them in the prescribed container and locked in my safe. I had to do this because missed pill counts can lead to a quick discharge. This went on for months after I expressed my desire to not take so much morphine until finally they cut me 60 mg morphine twice daily which for the most part gave me a somewhat acceptable level of relief. I lost my W.C. insurance in July 2015 which resulted in a $165.00 per visit cash only payment per visit or be dropped from the clinic. The insurance owed the clinic around $2600.00 which they did not collect. OK. This is where the switch flipped from light to dark for me and my days were numbered. Under the insurance they were getting over $1200.00 per visit, now their getting $165.00. In August of 2015 I was treated by the primary doctor, this was the first time I saw this man. I didn't even know who he was, no introduction. He said that I didn't need the hydrocodone anymore to which I stated yes I did need this for break-through pain. He wrote both scripts and that was it. No questions or discussion about my condition. My September visit went the same, I waited over 2 hours to see him for a 5 minute appointment, where he again stated the same as last time about the hydrocodone. He still wrote all my scripts. My October visit was my last visit. I initially asked him to write me a medical opinion to help relieve me from an upcoming jury duty because I can't sit very well for long periods. He completely brushed me off like that should be no problem for me. I asked him again, his response shocked me. He said when they call you in for interviews to stand up and tell the judge I'REPORT COMMENTS

I think it is wrong for any doctor to deny patients proper care especially if they have chronic pain. I have to take NSAIDS which have caused an ulcer due to being taken off my pain killers. I now want to sue the DEA due to these issues. Please be careful nsaids are blood thinners and I almost died due to a bleeding ulcer that I got when my pain killers were taken away. Someone needs to be sued for the action the government has taken. Pain Doctors should not be terrified to treat there patients. People with Chronic pain should not be treated like we are addicts we should be treated like humans that are in chronic pain.REPORT COMMENTS

For those of us that are being condemned for having medical problems we didn't ask to have are being punished by the DEA,and doctor's we have to sign illegal documents and Pee in a cup like drug addicts committed of crimes and treated worse than criminals because we need pain medication just to get up and attempt to have a life.Even doctor's who have a hypocritical oath treat us badly. This has to stop and the government needs to stop the meth, crack and Heroin epidemic. Pain pills are NOT an epidemic, pain management is for honestly sick individuals who have medical problems such as lupus, as I Have which attacks every system in my body.I mean everything! There are days I pray if only I could be a dog and see a vet as animals are treated more compassionately and with dignity and not judged because of pain. Medical doctor's is now only a Business and they don't care about patients any longer because the DEA dictates how they can run their practices. I Can only pray that someone in charge can STOP this madness and the DEA needs to stay out of my medical business. It's between myself and my physician. Because I need pain medication .I am forced to sign a contract that DEA put in place. Oh, by the way I am a honorably discharged vet from the U.S. Navy. The VA is now treating my brothers and sisters who severed our country voluntarily the same way. We most served for God and country. Thanks for us risking our lives so you can treat the America I served in the 1980's like garbage because we need pain medication.May God bless America and let doctor's be doctor's and the DEA needs a complete overhaul or completely shut down!REPORT COMMENTS

My doctor and I working together finally came up with a combination of pills and pain patches that had me more mobile and was able to get up and about. I was able to drive again. With the exception of occassional break through pain I was able to control my pain and feel normal again. Now with the intervention of the DEA I have returned to an excruciating painful life. I rarely go out and I suffer pain day and night. My Dystonia is focal foot Dystonia which causes me to walk on the outside of my ankle. My toes curl into fists and I have to walk on my toe knuckles which is the tops of my toes. It is the worse pain imaginable, and yet I can get no relief. I am considering using alternative meds. How can you people take away the only hope I have of being normal.! If we sufferers turn to suicide in our pain,it is on your heads. Good luck sleeping when you realize you have caused that!!!REPORT COMMENTS

However, I still had to sign a contract (several pages long) that states if I don't live up to all of their regulations I won't receive treatment. I know people who cannot get pain medication for MS, Neuropathy, RA, lupus, and even cancer! I don't understand how a doctor can possibly "do no harm" when they allow patients to be in pain when there is a choice.REPORT COMMENTS

I was in a car accident when I was hit by a drunk driver in 1986, I broke my back in 2 places (L-3 & L-4), my pelvis was split in half. Ever since that time I have had Chronic SEVERE Pain and have been prescribed pain killers from then until this current time. Often I feel like I have a Knife in my back and can not walk. I am dependent on opioid pain killers but not addicted to them. When my pain is mild to moderate, I simply deal with it and only take Opioids when the pain is severe. My Dr. is now afraid to prescribe to his patients and is no longer prescribing pain killers to his patients because of pressure from the FDA. Now I have to go through hoops and hurdles to try to get a new script provider and will probably appear to be some sort of a "Drug Seeker" when the fact is that I have a medical history and will need Opioid Pain Killers for the rest of my life. The new laws about Prescribing Opioids to pain patients is destroying the quality of life and causing undue suffering to legitimate patients with crippling pain. I heard the stories from other people that were denied their medications and never thought that would happen to me because I never abused - gave out or sold my medications. in 1 year I have known 6 people that were legitimate patients with legitimate injuries that were cut off of their pain medications and have since died. 1 suicide because the pain was unbearable, and 4 that turned to the streets for pain relief and Over Dosed on Pills & or Fentanyl. This ABUSE of the AMERICAN PEOPLE NEEDS TO STOP NOW! This is nothing short of cruel & criminal to deny medical treatment to medical patients. Unless you have been severely injured or have a chronic illness / disease that causes you so much pain that the first words out of your mouth when you wake up is, "Oh******I Lived" (Not because your suicidal buy because Pain is Evil), then you - the FDA - YOUR Dr. has no idea what it's like to feel like that. I can assure you that I love life and would like to live a long one, but I would rather die than suffer to be honest. Cruel & Unusual Punishment - Denial of Life & Liberty - Guilt By Association - Denial of Due Process, that's what it amounts to.....A Slaughter of the Constitution. Convicted of crimes we did not commit. Furthermore the restrictive legislation that jams a wedge between Drs. & Patients forces Patients to become criminals by obtaining medication through illegal channels thus supporting the Drug Cartels marketing murder. Shame on the FDA and Shame on Capitol Hill! Get The Hell Out Of My Drs Office and Stay The Hell Out of My Treatment! Your Hurting me & Killing Others!REPORT COMMENTS

I have had debilitating excruciating pain in my lower back for 15 yrs from an accident back in 2000. I'm also disabled. I'm turning 53 this year although I'm not sure I'll make it to 54. I've been on pain meds throughout this time. I have never in 15 yrs ever failed any urine test, any blood test, any surprise pill count, or broke any pain med contract. I have never sold or misused my medication. I've never called in early, said I lost my prescription, said they were stolen, or even asked for more per month! On my last Dr visit he told me he will be cutting my pain meds off over time for no fault of mine. Pressure from the DEA and his boss has caused this. His boss said that unless you're dying of cancer then you shouldn't be on them. I have lost everything but my family to this pain because of taking these meds. Now I will lose any chance of being around my grandchildren, which I did see every day and I'm extremely close to. Then I'll lose my sons, and their wives. Then I'll lose my home, my only family, and any daily activities or quality of life. I have a tiny bit of quality of life by being around my grandbabies due to these meds. They are the only light in my life. I still have excruciating pain at times but these meds keep me from ending my life. Because of this insane pressure put on my Dr, within one sentence, he has sentenced me to death. I cannot bare to be left in this much agony. Within 26 days this will begin. He has not given me any other options. All along throughout these 15 yrs, I've asked for surgery or alternitives to these meds but he refused and said the pain may be worse and continued these meds. I really don't care if I take narcotics. If there is something else that works I'm all for it. I'm sick of being treated like a criminal, a drug addict, or a drug seeker. I started working at age 12. I was not lazy either or wanting to suck money from anyone. I was a single Mom who had an accident. I didn't ask for this or want it. I've done nothing wrong. I'll be forced to become a homeless alcoholic or turn to illegal drugs to prevent suicide. Not sure if that will work.REPORT COMMENTS

I dont mind having my pills counted, taking **** tests every damn week, ect... AS LONG as i am being dosed at an amount that controls my pain. I dont want a doctor to say oh since a percocet 5 mg works on an opiate nieve person it should work the same on you, no that is not how our bodies work, they are not the same, and once you get tolerance it doesnt go away, it will for a few days but once you get back on meds your tolerance kicks right back in and the dose does not work, doctors refuse to realize everyone is not the same. They torture us. The DEA adds to the problem. Personally i have a suspicion about this whole opiate epidemic and i believe it was allowed to happen to create a generation of people in absolute misery, for the prison industrial complex to feed off of but thats just me. NO ONE ELSE LIVES MY LIFE! YOU DO NOT FEEL WHAT I FEEL. DONT TELL ME IF I AM OR AM NOT FEELING PAIN OR SUFFERING OR HOW BAD IT IS! You can't even go to an emergency room with an injury anymore and not be looked at like a drug seeker! I went to the er with my foot swollen twice its side and bruised and could hardly walk and yet I was treated like some addict off the street and I didn't even ask for any pain medicine. I was told my foot wasn't broken and with her back to e walked off waving her hand in the air saying "anti inflammitories!" I went for one month until I went to a foot doc and found my foot was indeed broken. Now they don't even take you seriously when you are injured and think you are just out for drugs. I have osteoarthritis and degenerative discs in my back and had surgery on my neck and now have arthritis in it. This is just a few of my conditions all of which are very painful but I just have to suffer every day and try to get through because you can no longer get a doctor to prescribe anything because of our government sticking their noses into our private medical treatments. It's way out of control. By the way I am a 60 year old grandmother.REPORT COMMENTS
