To the lady who wrote this message, bless you for speaking up. This welfare system is corrupt and broken. The honest people like yourself are made to feel ashamed. They should test people for drugs. Isn't it odd, that we tax payers see what is going on, but our government does not. They want to keep feeding money to the people who abuse the system. There are families who really need this help. Someone needs to wake up to what is going on here. I knew someone once who really needed help for a short time and they would not help her. She wasn't wanting it forever and only needed a little help. What a shame. -

I believe welfare recepients should be held accountable for there actions, not the taxpayer. anyone on alchol and drugs shouldnt have their kids anyways and to be able to recieve more benfits per kids wrong message to for child support and foodstamps and cash benefits, then there told they have to work and take the easy way out and go draw ssi, they ought to make it harder to get these services. alot these people lie their way in court to get ssi and abuse the system more, after theyve been on it 5 or 20 yrs already. this got to stop.REPORT COMMENTS

I understand that there are people out there that need the help and truly try to get out of the "hole" that they are in, but there are so many people out there that don't know when to stop having babies (knowing they can't afford them) or are just too lazy to work. These people take money and food out of the mouths of the needey and use the money to get booze and drugs. Its wrong!!!REPORT COMMENTS

It seems only fair. Perhaps we can also revoke Social Security payments for drug addicts. If you're wondering why, it's because addiction is considered a disease (tell that to my brother-in-law with MS, a real disease). I have some family members with the "disease" they spend the SS money on drugs and alcohol. Great use of tax dollars. Now you don't have to wonder why SS is bankrupted.REPORT COMMENTS

I had to take a drug test to be able to work at my job. These people should have to take drug tests to receive free hand outs from my hard earned tax money. No pass, no cash.REPORT COMMENTS

I know several people who use their foodstamps and cash aid to buy drugs. I have reported them to the welfare office and they are still on assistance. Something needs to be done.REPORT COMMENTS

I was on welfare for a few months when I needed it. It sickens me to see other welfare recipients using this public and government funded program to support their drug habits! I did not realize the amount of people in my town alone who are on welfare. "Let's have a baby! We can get free money!" It is ridiculous and needs to be stopped! The only people deserving of this program are the ones who are not addicts!REPORT COMMENTS

I agree with this petition, everyone who works goes through a drug test for an application process, as well as random drug testing in order to keep thier jobs! Welfare is a necessary thing in order to HELP people out of situational problems, not a solution for those who won't work with the system. I understand that in some states and cases that there will be exceptions. Finding and registering those exceptions should be a relatively low percentage of people. However, I feel that if your asking for the Taxpayer to give you help there ought to be a limit!REPORT COMMENTS

It's about time. I think mandatory birth control would be a good step too. I do understand this would be a sore subject for some due to religious values. If this is the case they need to work and pay for their own kidsREPORT COMMENTS

I know a woman who lives with her childrens father but does not report it and gets 500.00 a month in food stamps and sells most of those for 75 cents on the dollar to the drug dealer or the man who owns the bar. She doesn't need them her boyfriend makes 75k a year. This system needs to be looked at really close. But a hard working family who gets laid off can't get temporary help for his family! It is insane!REPORT COMMENTS

I believe in this and think that all recipients of government assistance programs like Welfare and SSI disability, should be subjected to random drug testing. I work for the state of Oregon, with clients on SSI disability, I care for one who is using both prescription drugs and I believe street drugs. She also gets housing assistance. Why does the state pay for someone like that to have a "maid" come in and clean her house? Much of her medical problems stem directly from her life choices, You cannot abuse drugs and alcohol for most of your adult life and not have consequences later in life. She has been in the system for more than 20 years. Since she was in her late 30's or early 40's. So we support them and their habits while they are on welfare, then 20 years later, after their kids are over 18 and they can no longer get welfare, they apply for SSI disability, because now they are falling apart from their own life choices and we pay and pay and pay...it never ends!REPORT COMMENTS
