I think at a minimum that all welfare receipient should be drug tested. This is tax payers money and the people should have some sort of knowledge as to where there money is going and how it is being used. Anyone found to be using drugs should be permanantly barred from recieving welfare. -

I get to visit the projects daily, so I get to see everyone hanging out at home, smoking, drinking, and watching their plasma TV's, and it makes me wonder... if you're on public assistance, how do you have the spare money for a large flat screen, designer clothing, and 22" wheels for your Suv? I work and have to pass a drug test to receive my payroll check. I see so many come into the store I work at high on whatever using their EBT card on candy, energy drinks etc then pull out rolls of money and believe me when I save rolls, to say for blunt wraps, tire gauges (to smoke their crack in) beer, cigs and the list goes on. They had more money in their pocket then I ever seen anyone carry. Makes you wonder if they just done a drug sale.REPORT COMMENTS

The so-called "welfare" system was put into effect to provide "TEMPORARY" help while people got back on their feet. I remember in the early 70's when I first heard about this system. I was astonished. I know a few people this system has helped. But I also have heard about people who abuse this system. Mandatory drug testing (weekly) and birth control is not that much of an inconvenience for someone who may be qualifying for this system. Make it a part of the conditions to "qualify" for this system. Also IMPOSE A TIME LIMIT A PERSON MAY USE THIS SYSTEM. 3-5 years maximum is good enough for someone to pick themselves up if they desire to. Drug addicts should not ever qualify for welfare. It is as simple as that. Anyone can better themselves if they try hard enough.REPORT COMMENTS
