I am a single hard working mom that doesn't get any help from the state..even though i could use at least my daughters medical handled..I get no child support...and no state assistance. I am tired of drug addicts abusing our system and making it hard for those of us that just need a little help...those of us that work hard for what we have. DRUG TEST THEM ALL!!May 12th, 2010Someone from Cleveland, TX signed.

I belive that anyone who is getting welfare should have to not only get drug tested, but have to show up to a county hiring hall to be sent out to WORK,to earn the benifits that they get. There is no constitutional issue there at all, test,or starve.Make the recipients show proof of citizenship also.REPORT COMMENTS

Abuse of the welfare system needs to be stopped. As a taxpayer I am outraged that my hard earned money is used to help support some pot heads' drug habit. Drug testing should be required in order to get assistance. Drugs in your system should equal no cash in your pocket. Hunger and cold make good motivators and should be used with these applicants. The taxpayers are tired beyond tired of supporting this abuse. It's time to overhaul the system and make sure it's far less susceptible to these abuses. It's time to make people accountable and to stop letting them live in their "victim mentality". As our elected officials, it's up to you to DO SOMETHING about this.REPORT COMMENTS

I believe the welfare system needs to be modified. It is a broken and abused system, but it is still a needed system; especially as of late. Mandatory and random drug testing for welfare recipients is a great idea. I really don't understand why this step is not in place. I, once, had to apply for and use benefits from DHS. I would most definately take a drug test to qualify if it was required. I do not believe this would be unconstitutional in any way. I think that there would be less people receiving benefits if drug testing was required and those benefits could be used more affectively somewhere else. Why is it that they can purchase lottery tickets with these benefits? This also should be another "No."REPORT COMMENTS

This should have been done a long time ago. Living in South Texas I see wellfare being abused daily. Something has to be done, parents on welfare children donot any better. Staying home and letting or taxes take care of people verry capable of working just sitting around eating and drinking.REPORT COMMENTS

Welfare is a benefit not a constitutional right. Congress has the right to make whatever eligibility requirements they want and they don't have to give them a second chance. You fail your out of the program for good; put some teeth in it. Think of all the jobs created testing.REPORT COMMENTS

If I apply for a job to earn a paycheck and I'm drug tested to get the job, then why shouldn't the Welfare cheats also be drug tested. The only downfall I see is a lot of children are going to suffer because mom and/or dad tried to rape the system.REPORT COMMENTS

What happened to the TWO YEARS ONLY on welfare. Oh yeah, before that time is up they have another child, so get an additional two years!!! If they have nothing to worry about with the drug test then why should it be a problem!!!!!!!REPORT COMMENTS

in our state, if you are in need of assistance and you are working but you just can't make enough, even though you and your husband are both college educated and have lost your jobs due to the way the government has had it's downfall, we are told that we have to sell our 97 volvo bc it is paid off, and that we can't make more than $8.00/hr to even receive medical or foodstamps asst. but if we had a new vechile or a vechile that we are making payments on (like so many of the welfare people) then they would help us. you all should see our local welfare office.. the parking lot is like a new car lot. drug testing should be a must. Welfare Shouldn't be a HANDOUT but a Hand up to help the people who wish to help themselves with hard work and not wishing to be on it forever...REPORT COMMENTS
