Maybe this could help some of those who need it and help someone get a job or want a job and not collect welfare.May 12th, 2010Someone from Sabina, OH signed.

I work in retail and see welfare recipients strung out everyday. I am not saying that all are, if they are clean then they shouldn't get offended.REPORT COMMENTS

I agree with most people about the foodstamp/EBT program. I ran my own convient store for about 4 years, and the way these people abuse gov. assistance is unbelievable. I agree that they shouldnt be allowed to buy junk food! Your 300lbs 8 yr old does not need a BFC Monster and a King Size Payday. What really irritates me the most about the program...is that now they can get cash back? Cash back from a card/my taxes so you can turn around and by gas, beer, cigarettes, DRUGS! I am all for helping people who need it. Many people need the EBT Program in order to feed their children. But most of them neglect the children, keeping having more so they can collect more welfare...what CRAP! I agree with this petition 100% if your going to be on ANY KIND OF GOVERNMENT HELP you should be drug tested. I find it bogus that the crack dealer on the corner, makes more than me, off welfare, than i do even going to work 40+ Hrs. a week. Even better is now i get to pay for that crack dealers health care. I cant afford it myself, but i am gonna have to pay for the toothless willies doctors visits...just seems like maybe, just maybe for ONCE the government would actually do something to help out the people who really need it...No offense but i particulary dont care if the local crack dealers have food, medicare, etc....they make more on the corner in a day than i do in a week. HELP THE PEOPLE WHO NEED HELP!REPORT COMMENTS

What is wrong with helping those who need help AS LONG as they are TRYING to help themselves. Nothing. And this is why I think the Welfare system was set up. Personally I will NOT help someone who will not help themselves. Welfare recipients SHOULD have mandatory drug testing. Welfare recipients also should be limited on the number of children they produce. Also, Welfare recipients should be REQUIRED to show proof of looking for gainful employment. Too many are sucking off the system so they don't have to work and pay taxes. Please, PLEASE enact some legislation to address this issue and solve some of our countries problems.REPORT COMMENTS

I believe that they should not be allowed to get foods out of gas stations and already prepared out of deli's and soda pops and chips(junk food) but they should be allowed to get toothpaste and shampoo body soap laundry soap to stay clean and healthy.REPORT COMMENTS

In Colorado supposedly there is a lifetime cap on welfare of 5 years in which time people are supposed 2 either work or go to school. The government will pay for your childcare even if you dont have a job & are just looking. I have known many people who collect the check, say they're looking for a job, send their kids to daycare & sit around doing drugs and or "partying". At least those people had their kids out of the drug situation, but my tax dollars are not only paying for their drugs, but its paying for their babysitter too.REPORT COMMENTS

100% agree!! I am a young mother of 1 who works everyday to support myself and my child. I asked for food assistance once and was declined because I WORK!!! THATS CRAZY!! then my neighbor, who is the same age, umemployeed, mother of 3 gets her rent, heat, car insurance, food, telephone, gas & and still receieves a check for over $300 a month to spend on anything she wants, which does included cigarettes, alcohol and illegal drugs. Explain to me how that makes any sense at all.REPORT COMMENTS

I have been on welfare and can completely relate to the woman's letter. There are an extremely HIGH number of people who abuse the system and use their money for drugs and other subtances other than what it is intended for. Please make it manditory for welfare recipiants to be drug tested. You'll find that the majority of the people offened by this are the ones who are abusing the system.REPORT COMMENTS

I am a divorced mother of one, not on welfare, and also do not receive child support. I do not qualify for any assistance I am drug tested in order to go to work to pay taxes that pay for welfare - yet those who receive it are not tested. Many people trade food stamps for drugs. Why are all recipients not tested? Those that have a problem with it are the people with something to hide.REPORT COMMENTS
