I live in an apartment complex in Jennings, La. I am on SSI and get very little food stamps. I was shot 6 times and beat severely in 2003, I have seen comings and goings of the bad type of neighbors! selling drugs to selling their stamps! I feel they need to get a job and work, most have kids and do not even watch them out in the parking lot, seen a few toddlers out in the street almost getting hit by cars driving through! where are the mothers at, and what would they do then when something happens! no use in reporting because I have. only to have my car kicked and a neighbor of mine wrote on. 1 girl @ 12 got caught having sex in the laundry room! these derilict mothers need to wake up, because their kids might end up like the Jennings 8.REPORT COMMENTS

We are seeing more and more people sign up for public assistance. If we encourage a responible use of money, perhaps we will see more people move off of government aid and onto a life that is more fulfilling and more productive for everyone. There is nothing wrong with personal choices but if tax money is being spent instead of personal money, people should be held accountable.REPORT COMMENTS

I am continually amazed that individuals who receive public assistance have little or no obligation for the services they receive. My view is that they are basically "employed" by the U.S. government when they receive public housing, welfare or any of the other tax supported services. They do nothing for it and history shows that instead of it being a short term fix, we are now seeing multiple generations enrolled in the welfare/public assistance program. Why is it too much to ask that they submit to a random UA test. If they fail it, they should be given one warning at the most. After that they should lose some or all of those privileges. My husband works at a job that requires random UA testing to insure that all employees are "clean". If it is good enough for the private sector, why can't the government do the same? I don't feel that is an unreasonable request and/or trade off for the tax free services (that we pay for) they receive.REPORT COMMENTS

I work in the public service sector and I see many clients who are getting way to much assistance for the things they are doing and the see the ones who do not receive it who need it and are being pushed out because to many others are taken advanatge of it and that is not fair.REPORT COMMENTS

Hope this would help to lower the budgets. I know that this is going on, am glad that someone stepped forward to put an end to taxpayers money paying for welfare's drugs.REPORT COMMENTS

The costs to drug test each applicant will dramatically be made up by the decrease in participants in the program. Welfare as well as any other kind of assistance should be a privilege to those who desire to better their lives, not to take advatage of the system.REPORT COMMENTS

If the government would drug test EVERYONE that is receiving any kind of assistance on a state or federal level no matter what it is, this country could come out of recession. For those that don't use , you won't have anything to worry about.REPORT COMMENTS

I believe that drug testing would also teach responsibility and accountability to the children on welfare - because the parents teach by example - this will help them set a better example. We need to break the cycle.REPORT COMMENTS

If I have to take a drug test to earn my money, welfare recipients should have to take the same test to receive it!REPORT COMMENTS

My husband is 57 years and is randomly drug tested. I actually know some people that use drugs and get welfare and food stamps. One was fired from his job because they drug tested him and he was positive for marijuana. So if he can loose his job for smoking pot, why entitle him to welfare and food stamps? Seems like he is better off now, not having to work while tax payers support them. Test them all !!!REPORT COMMENTS
