Has America lost its mind....we fight a drug war yet we empower the people who are doing the drugs with welfare. The sentiment of America is changing and if you as our representatives don't change....we will be seeing later...alot later.

I feel that if you are getting public assistance, you should have to submit to the same standards as those of us who are working, which include drug testing. It is not up to me to pay for anyone elses habits, ie: drug and alcohol abuse with my hard earned money. If we hold people accountable for their actions, they may be forced to take a look at their lives and get the help that they need. The people who are abusing drugs and alcohol are not using the money they receive as intended, for basic needs and their children. Instead these are the people whose children end up in the child welfare system.

I do not want my hard-earned wages going to support those who abuse the system. While drug testing is a great idea, I also think that participants in the food stamp program must be required to show an ID. I think this would cut down on the number of fraudulent users. I am in favor of any steps that would tighten the loopholes in the entire welfare system...including a time limit on the benefits. I personally know of some 3rd and 4th generation welfare families, this is ridiculous!

Why should we be paying for people to cheat the system. Some just want to sit around, live off of government/state assistance. We pay in taxes for them to have health insurance, but most of us are unable to afford our own. Why is it that the ones that don't want to help themselves get the most help and the ones that work hard for what they have can't prosper because we are paying for those that won't work? I know I'm also sick of people getting assistance, and only receiving it because they they lie about their income or other income in the home. They shouldn't be allowed to keep bringing kids into this world if they can't take care of them. I know a couple that lies to get food stamps, health care, bills paid for, claims that one income is in the home, but there is another also, if they don't live together and aren't together then I guess she wouldn't be pregnant again, with twins she can't support. The problem lies with the agencies that keep dishing out money to those who don't deserve it.

I do believe drug test should be mandorty! We have to take UA's at work..to get paid. So why should welfare recievers not have to prove that they will use the money for what it is inetended and not for drugs or alcohol. Milatary people have to take UA's to serve our country. I think if you are actually going to use welfare for it's intended to be used for you would have no problem taking a simply UA test. It's those who are on drugs that think the UA testing is "bad" idea

My hard earned money is just that, Hard Earned. I have to pass a DT for work, government employees have to pass a DT for work. Receiving welfare should come with the same stipulation!

Government Assistance is suppose to be TEMPORARY...not PERMANENT! Why aren't these people being given a certain amount of time to get a job or make them enroll in college?? Why aren't they being told "Do not have any more kids because your benefits will not go up"??? It has been made way to easy for them to get it and live off of it for the rest of their lives at hard-working honest peoples expense!!

Welfare should be a helping hand, not a way of life, but that is how it seems to be perceived these days. As an emergency room nurse, I have seen too much abuse of the system, from welfare to free medical care (Passport in my state). Food stamps should be used only for healthy food, not cakes from the bakery, soda, junk food, beer, and cigarettes. And food purchased with food stamps should not be allowed to be returned for a cash refund (yes, people are actually doing that to get the cash to buy the things they can't get with food stamps, like drugs). The system is flawed, and with a little tweaking, can be made right again, or at least nearer to correct than it is now. By requiring drug testing, those who test positive should not get their benefits for that month. That way, they may think twice about using their benefits for drugs, instead of food and bills. I mean, seriously, if you have to take a drug test to get a job, you should have to take a drug test to get welfare benefits. If they're not doing drugs, then they have nothing to worry about. This may stop some of the freeloaders from getting money that was hard-earned by working folks.

I so agree drug testing should be performed on welfare recipients. There is way too much abuse in the system. People should have to also attempt to find gainful employment (like those on unemployment), and benefits should have a time limit. Welfare is supposed to be a helping hand, not a way of life. Food stamps should be valid only for healthy foods, not junk food and soda - and people should not be able to return food bought with food stamps for a cash refund.

No more free handouts to those who do not wish to make an effort to do for themselves! I am employed by the State of California, and my wages are being cut while so many people are habitual abusers of the system. I live across the street from a WIC office and most of the people going in have MUCH nicer vehicles than me. I even saw a brand new custom pink Lexus drive up there the other day. RIDICULOUS!

Welfare should be for people who REALLY need it, and it should a TEMPORARY solution. Help the truly needy to get jobs or if they're unable to work, get disability.

My husband lost his job, and then I was laid off too last year, but because I am a disable vet that was receiving 1000.00 a month which was suppose to pay rent, two car payments and utilizes (not), mind you a family of four, we could not receive any food stamps, wwe where told that we should be happy we had money. However if I did drugs I would get help. I think if you have nothing to hide and are not abusing the system one would not mind in having drug testing, not to mention after a certain amount of time should be moved off the program, especially if you are capable of getting a job.

I am the mother of two boys whom I have raised without a bit of assistance from the federal government. I object that my tax dollars are spent giving assistance to people that are not actively looking for employment if able and are free to spend welfare funds they receive any way they choose apart from food stamps. I don't want to fund someones drug habit and create yet another drain on this nations already strained economy. I believe that there should be drug testing for individuals who want to obtain Federal assistance.
