This is a complete non-issue. NO ONE except those drug addicts abusing the system would be against this! It's a rampant and insidious disease that needs to be eradicated immediately. There is ZERO reason NOT to do this. With debt like this country has, and the budget deficits government programs face I honestly cannot fathom no one has thought about this before. I was actually planning to start a campaign like this myself, I am glad to see someone else is already on the case. Congress, THIS IS A NO LOOSE SITUATION! You look like you car fiscally and socially about your constitutes! Drug addicts don't vote so there will be NO backlash! JUMP ON THIS NOW! Take the forefront and look like a hero!

Down on your luck or not, too many people abuse the system and need to be kept in check!

This would be the most beneficial piece of legislation ever passed.

This would save us money in the long run, and more importantly, let our welfare money go to the people who actually need it.

I am personally fed up with the abuse of ALL of our Government Assistance programs. Everyone of these programs is being abused at a rate that I believe most in congress would be appalled to hear the true number of. Drug Testing is the least you can do to prove you are holding these people accountable for using our tax money. It is ones personal choice to start using drugs, and I'm fine with whatever decision they make, however I am NOT fine with funding these peoples addictive habits.

I don't see why drug testing for welfare recipients is not mandatory. I think it should be.

This needs to be passed. Everyone I know of that is on welfare has a substance abuse problem of some kind, and every one of them also has a job working under the table. So they spend their tax-free, cash-money paychecks (and their foodstamp benefits, or unemployment benefits, etc.) on drugs and/or alcohol. My ex used to buy heroin with his foodstamp card. And he had a 7 year old son to feed. Please, pass the word and get this going!

It makes no sense to require people like me (I work as a detention deputy) take a drug test so I can continue working and pay taxes so the government can give money to all the scumbags on food stamps and welfare so they can buy drugs. I have no objection to giving a urine sample at work but I find it outrageous that people on public handouts can break the law over and over again with illegal drugs and numerous other things but yet they continue to suck up tax money that I have to pay for. I am outraged. To put it in plain English, our government sucks! One of the biggest problems with our country is all the free money given out to people that have never worked and have no intention of ever working. You all need to straighten up and quit rewarding laziness and balance the budget before it's too late and this would be a good place to start.

This needs to pass, since there are so many spending there food stamps for drugs. This would at least be a guarantee that people on welfare, would not be laying around on drugs all day, while tax payers work.

I have to take a drug test for my job and I'm not on welfare. Therefore,if I have to pass a drug test to get my money, then welfare recipients should have to pass a drug test to receive MY money as well.

If I must pass a toxicology test to get a job to "earn" income, then I believe that recipients of assistance of any kind from the social security/welfare system must pass a toxicology test to be able to sit on*****and "receive" income. The county that I live in, Fulton County, NY, is riddled with welfare cases and people on public assistance. Right now I currently have neighbors, 4 adults in the same apartment, all on welfare. I understand that by giving away "free" money there is a great boost to the local economy every first of the month, but when you live in a town who's local Wal-Mart store makes 3 times as much money on or around the first of every month than it does the rest of the days of the month then you can really see the problem. If workers are going to be tested for toxicology, free loaders should also be tested for toxicology. Thank you.

If I have to submit to random drug tests to keep my job, then why shouldn't welfare recipients be subjected to the same testing in order to keep getting their benefits? Why are we still debating this issue? This legislation should have passed YEARS ago.
