Those receiving public assistance should be expected to live by the standards of the public that provides them. Welfare is paying people to be lazy and to not work, even if they are able. This merely leaves many of them with more time to pursue other things, such as drugs and alcohol. We should demand drug testing for everyone on welfare, and terminate benefits upon the first positive test.

I work hard to get my check, random drug testing is part of that. The sponges of this country should be tested also.

I am a single mother of three and am raising my grandchild. Yet, I do not receive food stamps. I make too much they say; I am a TEACHER! Has anyone checked a teacher's salary lately... in Mississippi! Oh, and thanks to educational budget cuts, I was laid off. Now what do I do? My state is not hiring, which means I must move. That cost money. I struggle to make ends meet, face drug testing at MY job, and don't ask for handouts. But the government will let people who CAN work sit and draw a check? How fair is that?

I am a married mom to four. I also take carre of my father who lives with me. I have had to struggle from paycheck to paycheck to be a stay at home mom to my kids while i look around and see all of these people who are on assistance sending thier kids to daycare (which our tax dollars are paying for) just for the simple fact the parents dont have time to be bothered. I also see parents that send thier kids to school sick when they have free heathcare only to make the parents of the kids who actually pay for thier doctor visits have to kee ours home from school..i could go on but i should stop here!

Didn't Obama say its time for CHANGE...well then do something about this long past due problems that continues to pull down the working people who can hardly feed their own families and through taxes are supplying addicts with their fix and then money to feed their kids. I see nothing wrong with people getting it who truly need it. However, if you are drug free then there should be no reason for the person getting the assistance to agree to taking the test. Short and sweet and to the point....TIME FOR CHANGE OBAMA LET MAKE THE CHANGE...NOT ALL THE OTHER **** UPS THAT HAVE ALREADY TAKEN PLACE!!

I am not happy that my hard earned money goes to people on welfare - especially people who are on drugs. Stop spending billions on the war and others things and help our own people!!

A childs best interest is most important and if the parent is spending money on drugs instead of the childs needs then we should be ashamed that we allowed this to happen. I am all for welfare benefits for those that deserve it, but those who have drug habits are being allowed to neglect their children's best interest doing so.

I think this is a very good idea. If recipients want to receive their welfare checks they need to be clean. Simple.

It's about time; why do I have to submit to drug testing in order to keep a job so that I may pay taxes to support those who will not work.....It's insanity!

This is something that should have been put in to effect a long time ago. The government is finally opening their eyes to the many problems of easy money for people on drugs. The government has supported many drug users habits for to long.

I am a married mom of 4. My husband is currently deployed to Afghanistan. I want to add that I do not approve of food stamps being used on things like bakery ordered cakes, specifically wedding cakes, and sodas, and junk food. The foods allowed should be more like WIC, only certain healthy things. AND under no uncertain terms should people be allowed to use the food stamps at restaurants!!! Why should they be able to go out when I can't afford to take out my kids w/their dad being gone and our income slashed a third because of his deployement??? That, my congressmen is NOT right. I work in an Emergency Room and see, day-in & day-out, the medicaid abuse thats goes on. Anyone not in the healthcare field would be shocked, amazed and infuriated that we've allowed this to get to this point. ER is filled with sctached knees, low-grade fever (so mother doesn't have to pay for kids Motrin), pollen in the eye, pregnancy tests and even RAZOR BURN! An ER visit costs Medicaid large amounts of state and federal money wasted a walk-in clinic complaint. And, yes, the majority of the pt's are between the ages of 15-45 and almost all, test positive for at least drug one of a 5 panel. We are sad. And tired. And very much frustrated. Please listen to us, we want the best for our government funding. We want to know our tax dollars are used for something good for people. We see it from the inside so we are asking you to tske s look for yourselves from the inside. If not, please listen to us and make some chsnges before all of working-glass Americans lose hope. Thank you for at least reading whst I had to say, Karen Hodges
