Sorry, but I don't think ANY war dog should be banned from military housing. If they're good enough to go to war, then they should be good enough to live on base too!

When will people learn that dogs only react the way they are taught to react. Stop banning dogs and start banning the owners from moving into the communities.

2 of my dobermans regularly make therapy dog visits to the local military base- where they welcome soldiers home, send them off to duty and sit with soldiers who have issues and need a comforting shoulder. Breeds are not the problem-bad owners are the problem. The number one breed for dog bites is now the Lab They aren't dangerous either!

Breed banning is nothing more than racism for dogs. It is all in the manner in which they are raised that determines how they will act.

I have a Doberman that I adopted due to this military breed ban. As much as I love her I hate the circumstances under which I adopted her. This was a good loving military family that was heartbroken when the people they have dedicated their life to decided they couldn't keep their dog.

I have been a dobe owner all my life (now in my 50's). These dogs are the sweetest and most loyal and non-vicious dogs ever. They are loyal to their family and respond with love and kindness according to how they are treated - just like any other loving dog or person. Whoever makes this kind of decision should be educated on the attributes of the breed before making this kind of decision because obviously they do not have all the right information.

I recently reviewed an article on the use of Doberman and other dogs in the military. I was horrified when I found that since military dogs were classified as auxiliary equipment, that during the pull out of Vietnam most had to be left behind. Recently I heard that the military dogs had finally been reclassified so that this would not happen again. Now this. For each hard fought step forward, why does there have to be a major step back? Whoever made this decision to add Dobermans to this list should be ashamed.

This is horrible after what the breed has done for the army after taking bullets and SAVING soldiers. What about German shepherd type dogs they are worst then dobermans pitbulls are understandable not dobies!!!

As someone who was a military brat, our dogs were part of what made every place home. I have now been part of the Doberman world of owning and showing these intelligent wonderful animals. My children were raised with them, and if a military family chooses to own one, they should have that right.

Banning dobermans is ridiculous. I owned one for 10 years and he NEVER harmed anybody. He was truly a gentle giant. He lived with me on two different Military installations (marine corps) and I never had problems with him. Of course he would bark when people walked by our house but that's what ALL dogs do. While living on a military base in Hawaii, I dog sat for my neighbor. She owned a lab mix and while caring for that dog he growled and snapped at me several times, but because he wasn't a band breed it was ok. Also when my daughter was 4 yrs old she was bit in the leg by a small 6 pound Maltese which drew blood and caused an instant bruise and not to mention scarred her for a long time. She was terrified of small dogs from then on. Both of those dogs were not of the "band" breed and still allowed to live on military installations. Why is that? My Doberman never growled, snapped or bit anybody in the 10 years of his life. My grandmother who was terrified of big dogs absolutely adored my Doberman, She cried when he passed away. I've encountered aggressive dogs of all sizes and none of them have been dobermans.

We've adopted 3 Dobermans during the last 26 years. Since we moved in the South, 2003, we have never seen so much discrimination and misinformation. Our kids were raised with Dobermans, as are our grandchildren. They are sweet and gentle. Our only one remaining, Caeser, is 127 lbs., and has been attacked and bitten by a Yorkie. He was a gentlemen and never did a thing. The owner of the Yorkie laughed and thought it was hilarious. Wouldn't have been if he wasn't laid back and kind and retaliated. I have been bitten by 3 dogs in my lifetime (over 60), two were chihuahuas and one was a Yorkie. And I'm a dog and cat lover. You people need to reevaluated "threatening", "guard" and "attack" dogs. People are ignorant and misinformed. And yes, this is a betrayal to all Dobermans who have served as war and therapy dogs.

I'm appalled by this bill. Any dog will bite to protect its home and people. Whoever proposed this bill has never owned nor shared a room with a Doberman and its family. I proudly and currently own two Dobermans. They are well-bred, incredibly smart, overwhelmingly loving and social creatures....because I have raised them properly. As with any breed, it's the owners that should be held responsible when problems arise, not the breed. Are you outlawing GSD's, Pit Bull's, Mastiffs, Rottweilers, Cane Corso's, Presa Canarios, Boxers, Dalmatians, Huskies? Check your stats people.
