We have had the same issue, we got out of the army when we learned we couldn't have our beloved Dobermans on military housing. Our dogs come first. Dobermans are not aggressive breeds. This breed ban on post needs to be re evaluated and hard evidence needs to be produced as to why this breed is banned.

I have had dobermans for the past 20 years. I can say with certainty that they are smart, well-behaved and great family pets! They have served the military honorably throughout the years (even though the military did not return that honor, leaving many behind in Vietnam and Korea!). Your policies are the reason that rescue organizations do not adopt to military members. We can't trust that they will be able to keep their family member! My father, brother and husband all served in the military. They believe this policy is ridiculous. Please reconsider!

Breed specific rules at any level are wrong. Punish the deed not the breed. The individual dog should be evaluated and not the entire breed.

Many Doberman's served in our Military as well as the Police Force. They are extremely smart and loyal animals. This is discrimination at it's best. Being discriminatory against breed, sex, religion, age, race, is all wrong. This is ridiculous. The Doberman breed is no more vicious than any other breed.

breed specific rules at any level are wrong - it should be the individual animal that is evaluated and not the breed. There are so many factors that determine a dogs disposition.

This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. Dobermans are one of the best breeds. We have 2 young children and they are great with my children. There are other breeds that are a lot more vicious.

I am a doberman mom of 2. never when i am out in public they never bit or attacked anyone. They are social love to be around people, love the attention. I have helped with a doberman rescue where I adopted my female from and a year ago we adopted our male owner surrender. I don't understand when people say you have a "what" they are agressive. It is the ignorance of people who cannot educate themselves or open their minds or their hearts. I have friends who have dobermans, pitbulls, rotti's and they are sweethearts that are a loving family member. Dobermans are a wonderful breed as any other type of dog. These as you call "aggressive breeds" are also therapy dogs as well and yes they are ambassadors to the breeds educating the public. it such a shame that the media and the public are still ignorant educate yourselves first.

we were in the army at fort drum, ny from may 2007 to march 2010. we had an 8yr old, female blue. I would walk her on side walks & pick up after her & she never bothered anyone. BUT her and I were chased by siberian huskys on 2 diff. occasions & 3 other times by other breeds. (not sure what) I had to put her to sleep 2 wks after my husband came back from afghanistan after 1 yr of it just being her & I. She helped me thru that yr he was gone. She got sick & her kidneys failed quickly. She was my husbands baby. We have had dobermans for the 19 yrs we have been together. We have 3 now! 15 yo female, 3yo male, & 2yo female. They help my husband with his PTSD & protect me as he works nights. Dobermans are greatly misunderstood. I love them & will recommend to others & always have them in my live!

As my daughter looks at a future in the military, she will never join a branch that would be against the very breed of dog that gave her the reason to join. As a teenager she and her doberman became a certified search and rescue team. Training with her doberman made her want to serve her country by being part of a military SAR team. How can you deny a breed that played such a major role in military units of the past? And how can you keep the German Shepard off the list with their high potential for aggression?

Dobermans are wonderful dogs! Any dog has the potential to bite and little ones are the worst offenders! Please do away with the breed specific bans and deal with aggressive dogs individually. Dobermans have contributed so much to the safety of our troops over the years and it does them a great disservice to ban them from living with their families. Thank you!

Why discriminate when you can simply request that all dogs living on base pass the canine good citizen test? That way you have well behaved dogs with responsible pet owners regardless of the breed and it's fair to all!

The BSL in on-post housing is one of the main reasons my family chooses not to live on post. My 2 sweet Dobermans would not be allowed & I disagree with BSL all the way around. We refuse to give our hard earned money to any agency or town supporting BSL. Shame on the military for breed specific legislation laws! Our 12 year-old son plays dress up with our male Doberman, who stands quietly to be dressed in swimming goggles or sunglasses, camo shorts & t-shirts and then follows his boy around on "missions," licking the boy and wagging his little nub. Real vicious and scary, huh? Dobermans, Rottweilers, Pit Bulls, German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois and other breeds have been used by military services throughout the years for their loyalty and courage in combat....and now many of them are considered aggressive breeds and banned from posts. Just a terrible shame.

How can you with good conscious ban the Doberman, when this breed is not only known for it's loyalty and intelligence, but also for having a significant positive impact/use in the history of our military? There is a World War II War Dog Memorial monument to honor Dobermans for their military service. Or have you forgotten this? Like everything else, it seems things that were once respected and honored in America are being stripped away. As an American, I'm appalled and ashamed of what is happening in America. Very sad and shameful what politicians and the "powers that be" are doing to this once great nation. Shame on you!

Dobermans are very loyal and easy to train and will lay down their life to save another. They are a part of the military history and deserve to still be there! What is wrong with our country!!

I am appalled at the audacity of the military to take this action of banning these beautiful, elegant, loving Doberman dogs. I come from a long line of military men, especially my Daddy, who retired from the Army as a Lt. Col. I've had a Doberman in my life since 1976 and they have ALL been gracious, loving, docile family members. When my Daddy was dying, my Doberman stayed by his side constantly, watching over him till he passed away. These dogs are not JUST pets, they are FAMILY MEMBERS. I would give up everything in order to keep my fur kids. These dogs are more loyal to their human families than anyone or anything else. SHAME, SHAME on the Army for banning ANY breed and any politician that supports breed specific banning.

Sorry, but I don't think ANY war dog should be banned from military housing. If they're good enough to go to war, then they should be good enough to live on base too!
