Dobermans have served our country in the past and now they aren't even allowed on base. I've never had a more loyal intelligent dog than a doberman . My doberman personally is very loving and sweet . -

I am prior enlisted in the United States Marine Corps (which allows Dobermans) and will soon be commissioning in the U.S. Army. It kills me to know that going into the next phase of my military career that I will not be able to have my Doberman Pinscher with me. She is extremely kind hearted and LOVES children. It will be so disappointing for the both of us that she will not be able to come along.REPORT COMMENTS

Dobermans haven't been an aggressive breed in about 50 years, they are now being bred to help people with disabilities yet they can't be on a military installation.REPORT COMMENTS

We are having a huge issue with this while looking at houses near Augusta, GA (since on base housing is only ran by Army there) even though our Doberman is police trained. How is it that I can live in Navy housing and have my Doberman but Army housing literally across the street can't?REPORT COMMENTS

Dobermans are very loyal and loving. Yes they are protective of their owners but not all are as aggressive as people think. It's the owners job to train them. Don't punish everyone for one persons mistake.REPORT COMMENTS

Dobermans shouldn't be a banned breed. They have served their nation well.REPORT COMMENTS

I have 2 well trained, well mannered and gentle Dobermans. They do bark to alert me when someone is at our door, when I tell them I have control they return to their business! They come to me when I call them and do as they are asked. Unlike my neighbors yappy things that growl bark and chase me as I walk by. These breed bans are ridiculous.REPORT COMMENTS

After our father, a veteran, suffered a massive stroke, we nursed my dad, I, my sister and brother and mother! We all nursed him. And sitting by his bed, after his stroke, I remembered the Doberman we had when I was little. There are photos of us under the Xmas tree together. And after our father passed, sometime later I got a Doberman who has been with us for 5 years. He is around adults, small children, other dogs, cats, you name it, and there has never been one incident of any kind. Nor does anyone I know who has a Doberman have any incidents of any kind. Small dogs have twice come up and actually nipped him on the nose, and he looks at them like, "What is your problem?" These are not a dangerous breed. Please reconsider this decision. You will be depriving those who most deserve the right to have this amazing dog, and later it will be seen to have been a sorrowful injustice. Thank you, LynneREPORT COMMENTS

I am writing to ask you to please reconsider a policy that in future years you will realize was a mistake. My father, Dr. Conrad Frydenlund, served in the military with distinction. He had a beloved Doberman. When my father had a massive stroke, I nursed him. And when he passed, I got a Doberman, that saved me and my broken heart. Please reconsider and gather more information, I promise you on my word of honor that you will learn that Dobermans are not a dangerous breed. These dogs I am sure comfort and love these families while their loved ones are off fighting for our freedoms, one of which you will have deprived them of. I don't believe in keeping wolf-hybrids, etc. as beautiful as they are, unless you live all alone on top of a mountain somewhere, where you place only yourself in danger. But I give you my word, and years of experience, Dobermans just aren't like that. I will gladly bring my Doberman to wherever need be and present him to you so you can see for yourselves. Bless our servicemen and women and their families, Lynne FrydenlundREPORT COMMENTS

Doberman Pinschers were instrumental in combat roles in the South Pacific during World War II. Many of them were killed or died from disease. There is a cemetery dedicated to these "always faithful" canine soldiers on the island of Guam. That, today, this loyal, affectionate, and loving nreed is blanket-banned from US military housing is a dishonor to their service and sacrifice. I write this after reading of a navy family that must find a new home for their special needs, 8-year-old Doberman. She must receive insulin shots twice a day. She is a loving, well-behaved member of the family and as gentle as a lamb with the baby. Will Congress, working with the Pentagon, please reconsider this no-exceptions ban, to accept Dobermans with no history of violence, with documentation to support this, such as, but not excluding a Canine Good Citizen certificate? Please honor the contributions this magnificent breed has made to the US military and our natiom's freedom by removing Doberman Pinschers from the banned breed list for serving military families. Thank you for your consideration.REPORT COMMENTS
