I have a Doberman and he does not show this dominant behavior you talk about. He will protect if need be but he is a baby on a daily basis!!!

I've been the happy owner and mother to four pure bred Doberman's since the 1970's. These are the sweetest dogs. None of my girl's have ever bite anyone. They have the best temperment.

There is no justification, we have become a nation of fear and ready to eliminate and isolate for fear of the unknown. Its a shame as this breed is known to be great protectors, lovers, and loyal companions.

There is no such thing as a bad dog. Just bad owners.

this is heartbreaking to the memory of all the dogs who served and died in our armed forces. Please rescind this regulation banning doberman pinschers from base housing.

Nothing like dishonoring the memory of those dogs who gave their lives in the war, along side their fellow K9 handlers.

It has been proven time and again that breed specific legislation doesn't work. My doberman easily earned her Canine Good Citizen certification and was praised by anyone who ever met her as the sweetest and most well behaved dog they had met. People in power use BSL as a simple way to try to show uneducated people that they're addressing the "problem of aggressive dogs". Rather than doing the hard work to actually make a difference-HOLD THE HUMANS RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR ACTIONS! Whether they've trained their dog to be aggressive (as criminals do) or haven't trained their dogs to behave (lazy, negligent owners), it's the person that's the problem.

Dobermans are wonderful dogs, I live on an Army post and I have three neighbors with 2 dogs each (total of 6 dogs) that do not fall into the "banned" list. Yet, I can no longer go into my own back yard, because they Unprovoked barking, growling, or snarling at people approaching Aggressively running along fence lines when people are present Biting or scratching people Escaping confinement to chase people..... and one is the neighborhood Mayor. I wish they had Dobermans!!!

Just an update: the BSL has been adopted by all military branches with the exception of navy. Being stationed in Hawaii we had to find off base housing for our doberman puppy. We found out that Navy still accepts Dobermans and are moving into the new house next week.

Wouldn't own any other breed! I love my Dobies. People are the problem, not the breed.

While I was on active duty my family and I had a Doberman in quarters on Ft. Campbell and at Aberdeen Proving Ground she was never involved in any incidents and no complaints were ever placed against her. On the contrary The housing offices at both posts were highly complimentary toward us and our pets. This "across the board" dismissal of all Dobermans, based on nothing more than bias simply places more strain on families already dealing with deployment separations and the like.

My husband is in the military and I have a Doberman and is frustrating that his breed died helping our country and are smart wonderful dogs but because of stupid people not the breed. I bet my life that he is nicer then all the little dogs that are allowed in military housing and I bet your life.

My husband has been active duty for going on two years. We have been married for three, together for eight. We adopted our first doberman shortly after we got together. She's seven this year and is a huge member of our family. We found out last year that I am unable to bear children. These dogs are the only kind of "children" I'll ever get to raise. And they are treated as such. My husband lives in Fort Lewis-McChord and I am here in Illinois. We have not lived together for that amount of time so that our two dobermans can live the rest of their lives safely. I get to see my husband for maybe forty days a year. When my husband enlisted it had not been put through that dobermans were banned from housing. Had we known then, we might have chosen a different branch. The thing I find most ludicrus; they (dobermans) were good enough to serve with our troops in WW2, but are not good enough live with our soldiers, comfort their families in times of deployment, be protected by us now? I find the whole thing appalling. My dogs are very well behaved, and if this ridiculous rule put in place by bored house wives is still intact when my husband's stint is up; we will definitely be discussing other options. My husband does his good duty by this country, loves this country, and fights for this country; and I stand by his side along with our dobermans. The least you could do is allow him to live with the animals he loves.

I am a Doberman breeder and find it a travesty of justice that this loyal breed who fought as Marine dogs in WWII should be treated in a such a way. Any dog will growl and bark at strangers that pass their yard. Any dog will protect their own property and their owners. I have been training and breeding Dobermans for over 20 years and have found it is never the dog but the dog owner that makes a dog bad. Owners who don't take the time to obedience train or socialize their dog are the ones to blame not the dog.
