America is not what it used to be and is going to the gutter. Every job I see posted online requires you to be bilingual in spanish. why are we forced to cater to another country? Learn english or get out!

It's hard for many people to find employment because they're not bilingual. America = English. Some employers are requesting you to be bilingual to pack a box why in the world do you have to be bilingual to pack a box.

Though I am learning a second language voluntarily, I shouldn't be forced to do so and eliminated from contention in a skilled position because some individuals I may serve lack initiative to learn the native language.

As others have mentioned this is very discriminative. The constitution is written in English, our political and presidential debates are in english, public schools teach in english. Then all of a sudden when we want to find jobs they drop the "you have to speak spanish" bomb on us? I'm trying to be a productive working citizen and I speak fluent Korean. But to hell with my years and thousands of dollars spent on education, to hell with the fact I speak two languages fluently. I dont speak spanish so I guess None of it matters.

I too believe in diversity and welcoming of all cultures in the US, but the requirement to be fluent in Spanish for a job giving 401(k) retirement plan presentations is taking away job opportunities for many bright, educated professionals who don't speak Spanish. It is unfortunate to see that this job "requirement" is gaining momentum in many industries, actually resulting in more unemployment for US citizens who speak English only.

I am paying off a student loan for a degree in Human Services, which has proven to be useless in Southern CA due to the bilingual requirements. Also, if English speaking classes are offered free of charge to adults on some high school campuses so there is no reason for anyone to not know the language. The bilingual prerequisite has affected our teens and young adults who are attempting to step into the workforce in entry-level positions. Often, they are trying to support themselves, their families and pay college tuition. What about our seniors who have had to re-enter the workforce? After years of working to build and support this country, they must they have to learn a new language? What about OUR American Dream. It?s not fair. Lastly, English is spoken or taught in most other countries, yet it is not a requirement here?? Something is very wrong.

I am all for diversity however, the fact that we are American citizens.. and English is our first language, it is outrageous that many jobs are becoming unavailable to qualified workers simply because we are not bilingual in Spanish. I too have spent thousands to obtain a degree in social services and constantly run into problems in finding work based what seems to be a mandatory requirement of bilingual. Often the request states.."bilingual preferred" but the fact is their is no point in making an attempt in such cases because basically what they are saying is "bilingual only need apply" We have families to feed as well..often left to take jobs with a lower pay grade and many have joined the working poor! This is discrimination at its worst!

If you come to our great country you should be required to speak English. I feel us Americans should not have to be bi lingual to get a job. I think that by us allowing this is such a disgrace. I live in Phoenix, Az it seems like it should be Mexico. There are even McDonald's billboard signs in Spanish. It's sad when a company has a company has a meeting and the meeting has to be translated in Spanish. What is this country coming to? Unemployment rate is high and bi lingual jobs in the south west makes it harder to get employed. I pray that this changes, I don't the people who wrote the constitution would stand for this. If you can't speak or write in English you shouldn't be here. We are making them feel like they don't have to learn English. Let's put this foolishness to a end, wake of Americans!

This is an English speaking country. Yes, the fact that our country is so diverse is one of the great things about it, however, it was founded by English speaking folk and our constitution is in English. Our laws and national anthem are in English. I miss out on many opportunities that I am qualified for, only because I am not bilingual. This is unfair to me. The people who come to our country need to be required to learn the language. I have found that some people will pretend not to know english and ask for someone who speaks their language only because they believe that they will receive better treatment and services. I am a Latina American. My family came from Mexico and Puerto Rico, they all learned English and came here to live the REAL American dream.

Hey why not file for ssi disability? Can't even go to a burger place and order because they dont speak english. And the pistal petes pizza are now accepting food stamps and mexican peso for food. What next

Young Jamaican born citizen, first in my family to attend college in America, earn a master's degree, learn Chinese mandarin, with years of experience working with different types of people, and yet I'm not bilingual or qualified...because I don't speak Spanish. It's very frustrating, especially living in NY where there are blacks, whites, Browns professionals etc, who are competent to provide diligence and full cultural competency within the social work field. Something has to change.

I went and spent 70 thousand dollars to get an education in Human Resource Management yet I keep running into Bilingual preferred positions and get turned down regularly because I don't speak fluent Spanish. Why is it OK to require Native Americans to speak Spanish but it isn't OK to require Spanish speaking immigrants to learn the countries recognized language of English to be a citizen or work here? We don't require Americans to learn other languages to acquire jobs. No one expects Native born to learn French, German, Gaelic, Arabic etc to acquire work why do we accommodate Spanish only?
