In Miami, which is still part of the USA) I am mad and upset at the many jobs requiring or preferring bilingual candidates,or a job may be posted only in spanish. Majority of the work force is spanish speakers who dont even speak english,or are really bilingual. It is often seen where any service by an english speaker is hard to find.Discrimination is at its best only in Miami,Florida. But instead of remedying the problem all these years, immigrants of hispanics heritage have been rising to top official positions where they have done a way with American rules, laws, values and have created their own rules, laws and a society where its only for the spanish speaker or their own kind and any other non-spanish group has been forced to choose either you try to fit in or you remain an outsider within your own turf. -

An outrage. We as American citizens should NOT have to learn the language of those immigrating to OUR country, in order to serve THEM!REPORT COMMENTS

This is putting American Citizens out of WORK! The middle class is struggling ENOUGH!!! If you're in this country, nobody asked you to come here so speak English or go back where you came from if you're unable to. This isn't FAIR! I'm an American born citizen!!! I am qualified to perform work and not hiring me because I don't speak Spanish is discrimination!!!REPORT COMMENTS

I feel it's wrong to require bilingual speaking in job ads. I can see saying bilingual preferred but should not be a requirement. We live in an English speaking country.REPORT COMMENTS

latinos are very racist against blacks and do not hire us when in power. I have had to leave 2 jobs when a latino got into power, they ended up firing everyone and hiring only their people. they need to be stopped.REPORT COMMENTS

Civil Rights Act of 1964 Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits discrimination in many more aspects of the employment relationship. It applies to most employers engaged in interstate commerce with more than 15 employees, labor organizations, and employment agencies. Title VII prohibits discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex or national origin (language comes with this). It makes it illegal for employers to discriminate based upon protected characteristics such as race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. Language is a part of your national origin package and in America your package includes English just as in Mexico it is Spanish or in Shenzhen it is Mandarin.REPORT COMMENTS

In Miami, FL a candidate was not given the position as Lot Attendant at a warehouse store because the position required the candidate to be Bilingual, speaking both English and Spanish. This is interesting. How would a bilingual lot attendant converse with a customer who spoke French- Creole, Chinese, or any other foreign language other than Spanish? Miami, FL has a large diverse population. I believe most people have an innate ability to kindly attempt to be understood, using a kind of universal language After all, a Lot Attendant's duties require less talking and more doing--doing those things like keeping a clean store front entrance, making carts accessible to customers, and taking out the trash.REPORT COMMENTS

I am a national board dental assistant in New York. I've been to quite a few good dental assistant job opportunity interviews. I surpass the qualifications that these jobs ask for, but guess what. I still don't have a job. I keep getting the same question asked "Are you fluent in Spanish" or "Do you speak spanish" and one I hear that I knew that I'm not going to get the position. I even had an employer say to me that I had everything he needed but the position is specified for a Spanish speaking person because your interaction will be with 90% Hispanics. He went as far as saying the certification you have is extremely hard to find. So I said because "I don't speak soonish therefore I'm being passed up for a job"." Interesting" This is what have been happening in major hospitals that I've interviewed for.REPORT COMMENTS

We live in america its not fair that we having a hard time getting jobs because we only speak English. Since the majority of spanish speaking people are latino they're getting jobs before any one else even if that other person is more qualified with more experience just because they speak Spanish! I work my butt off in school and get a degree only to be denied over and over again because im not bilingual for jobs that dont have anything to do with having to speak spanish!REPORT COMMENTS

So many jobs that I've seen REQUIRE (not just prefer) a bilingual candidate. It's mostly Spanish but I've seen Polish, German and Russian before too. This is completely discrimination. If the job isn't as a translator, I shouldn't have to speak another language. There already aren't enough jobs out there. Now employers are further handicapping people with this requirement.REPORT COMMENTS

When you replied, when yo aren't bilingual, What do you expect? You have to be competitive, write in the correct way. You must write in capital letters when is necessary, if you say that your first language is English. So, go and get some grammar classes.REPORT COMMENTS
