I work in the social services arena and I am very knowledgeable and qualified. I am being told I have to be bilingual in Spanish because most of the clients are Spanish speaking. I live in American but I.cannot get a job in my particular field just because I am not fully bilingual. Companies that have a need for bilingualism should not be allowed to deny an English only speaker a job based on not being bilingual. The companies should provide a translator on staff when needed. I have applied for many jobs and unable to secure for this reason. Language discrimination.

I just was told today that I did not get a job transfer because I am not bilingual. This situation has angered me because I fear for myself and my sons future here in America, if we don't speak a second language of another country we can not work in our own country, sounds crazy, but it is becoming a reality. Our law makers need to change this growing nightmare and allow Americans to work in America.

In any other corner of the world, patriotism is more important than tourism. If French, Spanish, German, etc. is the native language, all of those that don't speak the language fluently should reconsider their visit to the country for they will not exactly be welcomed with open arms by the locals because of the language barrier. There will be no accommodating. Here in America, it's just the opposite. Why should Americans have to learn a language in order to accommodate others who are obviously guests in our country? Shouldn't they be required to learn English since they are now in America? And what kills me is that some of these 'bilingual' employees speak their language with ease but still have a hard time understanding and speaking English. An employee is not exactly bilingual if they speak their native tongue with ease but can barely speak a second language, except for a few basic greetings and commands.

This is discrimination at its best. How can you be an American and speak the official language of your state, which is English and be required to speak Spanish in order to be considered for a job? This is becoming more and more common as I continue to apply for jobs. There are jobs that I am overqualified for that I can't get because I don't speak Spanish. This is illegal and employers should be penalized for these practices. Something has to be done. This is ridiculous.

Requiring someone to be bilingual for a position they are more than qualified to work when that person is white and born in an English speaking nation is discrimination....... I'm tired of not being able to get a job because I don't know Spanish and an employer shouldn't be able to force you to learn Spanish to obtain the position. This is America, not Mexico!!!

If anyone comes to this country, they should have to learn our language not the other way around. If so, how come people aren't forced to learn or be bilingual in Cantonese, Polynesian, Italian, Tagalog, etc.?

We don't live south of the boarder so we shouldn't have to speak Spanish for a job in the U.S. if Americans moved to a different country they wouldn't learn English to accommodate us, No we would have to learn their language.

My husband was just denied a warehouse job for not speaking Spanish. The employment market is very slim were we live and to be denied a job like warehouse work for not speaking spanish is wrong.

It's sad that we live in USA and we need to speak in Spanish. If I was to go into another country I need to speak their language. Why doesn't that apply in Florida.

Not only is it discrimination against job seekers, I have seen it in a workplace where a bilingual person gets better treatment and more liberties because that person is bilingual.

It's a real shame that it's a problem for me and my family to find jobs. My mom has a Bachelors Degree and cannot get hired for lack of knowing the language, it's not that we don't want to learn. We would love to speak Spanish, but we have to make a living immediately, I have two younger siblings that need food RIGHT NOW!! This shouldn't be a requirement when this is the USA, It's unfair.

This is a form of Sly Imperialism. People are requiring Spanish because there are so (too) many people including millions of illegal immigrants here who cannot speak English. It should be the other way around. You speak English or go somewhere else to live and work. This is just a sly way to dominate the American job market to where on hispanics get the jobs and slowly suppress a free employment marketplace in an English speaking country. It is simply a way for hispanics to displace Americans and to try to dominate the job market. Hispanics are obviously trying to create a larger than life demographic in order to promote such ideals as CONQUISTA which is a kind of holocaust wish upon white people by such groups as La Raza and Mecha. Look it up and see if you feel the same way about these poor hispanics. As far as business is concerned they are all for bilingual requirements being the dollar chaser that they are who have no loyalty except to line their own pockets and continue in their own greed.
