I'm tired of being discriminated against because I can not speak Spanish in America. If other races can scream discrimination due to their race then we should be able to scream discrimination due to being told we can't have the job because we can't speak a foreign language. -

We spend millions a year to have English classes for non English speakers in our public schools. This starts in kindergarten. But only one year of second language is required for English speaking children! In California you will not get called for an interview if you don't speak Spanish, but plenty of cashiers at the stores don't know a word of English!. And then they get mad because I don't speak Spanish to them!REPORT COMMENTS

I agree! Why should we as US Citizens living here for hundreds of years speaking English (which is the Language we speak as US Citizens) be told we must learn spanish in order to get a job. This is discrimination!! What else are you going to take from us US citizens? My family has been US Citizens for over 400 yrs.REPORT COMMENTS

So now my right of being able to speak proper english is a set back because I don't speak proper Spanish aswell hmmm. Let's see, well this is absolutely appalling In my eyes and I will let you know why in my opinion the reason why we have come to this in the year 2015 in my statement below some people may believe that it's not apart of the petition itself but I think that these small steps that we have taken backwards with immigrants are the reason why . I've been looking for a job day and night for two months. Interviews nope don't know why, I have great references a great education a great work history. Oh wait it's because our us government has decided to step on the American people again. The ones who pay their taxes every year the ones who put money back into the economy on a daily basis, the ones who have registered to vote for you schmucks when voting time comes. For example, Just today I was watching the news and an individual who could not put a English sentence together to save his life . Was complaining about that he was not payed enough at the McDonald's he worked at because he could not send enough of the money back to his family in another country it took him about 90% of the segment to spill it out but hey let's pay him more than minimum wage . And Because that is the NEW American way in which I guess we have become accustomed too as americans . What upsets me more is that we treat our Military veterans that serve this country to protect it from foreign powers is treated the same damn way. These individuals who gave their lives to protect the United States of America can't get a job "alot of them" because some of them are not bilingual . I'm not fighting for just myself hopefully in this "opinion " of this ridiculous matter. But for those that don't know of this petition but feel the same way as like I said before Im "explaining" how I believe we have come to this bilingual matter. if we continue to let people "Skate by" on not having to learn the English language we will soon be having to speak in fluent Chinese Japanese Korean Spanish Portuguese or any other language that comes to America. Not saying knowing these languages is a bad thing but what im saying is, it should be an advancement of my education in which if I feel is necessary and I should have my own right to choose weather or not to have to learn them. Because face it or not True US Americans are becoming the minority in our own country and we are being stepped on or pushed or poked however u want to see it. To adapt to people and languages that aren't being stepped on pushed or poked to adapt to our customs. In which I feel that their customs are their customs so be it that is the American way and always has been you come to America to be free and live the life you have always dreamnt of so be it You have that right. So I live in California probably the most diverse state in theREPORT COMMENTS

Requiring workers to be bilingual is a totally discriminatory hiring practice, against the English speaking workforce, I have paid my taxes my whole life and support our economy. Yet finding a second job to help pay my bills is futile, Have lost total faith that I live in the U.S.A., The not so funny truth is, companies pander to spanish speakers, because they are the only ones thriving in this economy and that's where the dollars are. As long as corporate america is acting potus, have no faith this will ever be changed.REPORT COMMENTS

I have seen this requirement for roofers, factory workers, ect.- positions that do not have to communicate with the public- no logical reason for this! As far as stores and banks, having one bilingual Spanish speaker may be good business. Insisting every single employee speaks Spanish is discrimination! What ever happened to diversity? Melting Pot?REPORT COMMENTS

I have been struggling to find employment for a while now because I am not bilingual. I am tired of seeing qualifications lists that include MUST BE BILINGUAL TO BE CONSIDERED. I feel that it is very discriminatory that I cannot find work based solely off of the fact that I am an English only American!REPORT COMMENTS

I am struggling with this as I am unemployed and looking for work. Because of my last name, companies contact me for interviews but once they find out I do not speak Spanish, it's leads to me being unqualified. These jobs are basic account manager positions and sales roles here in the US. English is the United States official language of governance and should be recognized by employers. I am a US Army Veteran and hold an MBA and still cannot find a job based on discrimination do to my Hispanic last name.REPORT COMMENTS

I was not born here but my family and I went here legally, We were poor where we came from. Therefore, we worked hard to pursue or American dream. I went to school, and worked so hard to get a graduate degree, not to mention the fact, I owe a huge amount of student loan, I could not even find a job just because I am unable to speak Spanish. I think it's the lawmakers who got it to the point where we are now, where Spanish speaking, or other language speaking, people have more opportunities than people who actually can speak English and have talents, skills and intelligence. I learned English, why can't they? Why is America tolerating people not to honor it's language. It's United States of America, not United States of Mexico.REPORT COMMENTS

It is absolutely wrong that an American CITIZEN such as myself cannot seem to find work due to being unable to speak spanish. This is America. Our language is English. I wouldn't go to Germany and expect all Germans to learn English so that I don't have to learn german. What is next? Will us Americans have to learn EVERY other language on the planet so that we can accommodate everyone else?!REPORT COMMENTS
