Companies that only hire bilingual people should be considered discriminative. This is an english speaking country.Jan 9th, 2015Someone from Lansing, IL signed.

I applied at a Wendy's near my home and the interview went well I thought. The manager didn't speak fluent english and I could barley understand him. I noticed everyone there only spoke Spanish as he pointed out , I rocked that interview I had good refrences from previous supervisors but he told me the only problem would be that I did not speak Spanish. They interviewed me three times after each with a different manager making me feel like I got the job. A few days ago they emailed me and told me I don't qualify for the job, for a fast food job ? Really I am about to be a freshman in college so I need money I just thought this was unfair.REPORT COMMENTS

it should not be allowed in America. The verbiage must be bilingual is unconstitutional and puts Americans at a disadvantage. Companies who need this requirement should offer language training.REPORT COMMENTS

I have went to school for counseling and I have my master degree. I have been unable to find a job because 95 percent require the person to be bilingual. It's BS and it makes me angry because I went to school all these years and this is be reason I can't find employment???? Why can't they learn English?? It's American and it makes sense.REPORT COMMENTS

I believe that we should have a petition, that all elected officials, must speak Spanish, as well. Why should we have to and they do not, when they represent so many people. Then they will see what we have to go through just to get a job.REPORT COMMENTS

I came to America from a different culture, and different language. I have an accent, but I too learned American English and culture. Now, I have my Bachelor's degree from an Ivy league school, with excellent GPA, and can speak very fluent English. However, in the past four years, getting a good office job with my degree has been a hassle. I need to know, yet another language, SPANISH. Thing is, I would learn, but going back to school is a luxury, I cannot afford, at the moment. This requirement by countless employers, effectively replaces the diversity of American working class. My friends who are Spanish speakers all have jobs, and even when they chose to quit a current job, they found another in no time. Look around you at banks, restaurants, retail stores, everywhere basically, new hires are almost always Spanish speakers, with a drop of few, literally one or two, non speakers. I am no racist, and I appreciate my Spanish brethren, but my God, people of other native tongues have to feed too. Directly, or indirectly discriminating against people because they do not speak a non-American language is unfair, and UN-American.REPORT COMMENTS

I work for a non-profit government agencies where it was mixed department. Bilingual is the new discrimination against all english speakers. It is so low key and new management hired all latino employees and created such a hostile work environment that one person almost died at my job. When I left to go on maternity leave, they eliminate my job. I did not have case due to trick tactics by manager who knew the HR loopholes. All California citizens need to file EEOC and demand state legislature change the law.REPORT COMMENTS

I am an AMERICAN. An English speaking American in my own country! It is disgusting that I should be required to be bi-lingual in Spanish to get a job in my own country. By the way, I am bi-lingual but I happen to speak English and Chinese. The only job that should be required to be bi-lingual is a translator position. I might add that I am a veteran who fought to protect the rights of AMERICANS, not Mexicans!REPORT COMMENTS

Press 1 for Spanish, 2 for English. I find it ironic that government and private employers are requiring Bilingual language ability to accommodate non-English speakers, while discriminating against American citizens because they don't speak a foreign tongue. Shouldn't it be the other way around?, ie; the person requesting service should speak the primary language used in the nation ? For hundreds of years, immigrants have all learned to speak a common language.REPORT COMMENTS

I just moved to El Paso and am having the hardest of time finding employment. There are jobs here, but they like to put Bilingual as a requirement. Its very discouraging because I worked hard, went to school, pay my taxes, and was born here. As a African American Young Professional I shouldn't have to work for $7.25/hr when I'm qualified to do jobs that pay double. When I was told to go to school and get an education they said nothing about having to major in Spanish.REPORT COMMENTS

I live in Miami, FL. I have an accounting and finance degree with experience and I'm still past over for the non educated, non experienced bilingual person. Acct/Finance has nothing to do with speaking Spanish but is required bu employers. This is pure discrimination by the Hispanics.REPORT COMMENTS
