Who listens and actually does something about complaints against discrimination? I live in Bronx, NY and when I try to apply for a job one of the main requirements is you must speak Spanish. When did Spanish become a requirement to get a job? And, for those companies who only want Spanish speaking people, how are they allowed to blatantly discriminate against people who do not? There are people who have bachelors and masters and may have long term skills for a job but, will more than likely get passed up because they don't speak Spanish. How is this allowable in an English speaking country? Knowing how to speak any language other than your native tongue is and should not be a requirement to gain employment. Anybody who doesn't see a problem with that is just as guilty as the companies who enforce it; separate from being discriminated against because the color of your skin, it's now acceptable to discriminate a person because they don't speak a different language. Earth will continue to spin and renew itself but we as humans are not progressing as we should. Who will be the voice to the voiceless?

I don't understand how I am unable to get a job because I don't speak a language that is spoken outside of the United States. You could not go anywhere else in the world and expect people to cater to your language. If I were in France or Italy I would be expected to learn those languages. Our ancestors that came to this country wanted to be an American and were proud to be in this country. They wanted to learn English and taught their children that part of being an American is learning the English language. At what point did we decide that English was not the language of this nation?

I am very proficient in many skills but unable to get a decent job because I am being discriminated against for not speaking spanish. I will have every other skill then I get yhe must be bilingual. Or it is brought up in interviews. This is very discrimianting due to that english is the primary spoken language and I do not have the extra money to take a spanish course. It was mandatory when I was in school when it was free to learn.

Im a certified computer.technicians and I'm discriminated against when it comes to many job openings since also everybody wants you to be bilingual. Its hard enough finding open positions in around my area and it makes it so frustrating when i can't apply to almost half because I grew up in an English speaking country.

I lost my original HR job due to spine surgery about a year ago. I have been desperately looking for work to get back on my feet. I still have many restrictions, so I would like to get back into the HR field. The amount of jobs I am unable to apply for because "bi-lingual a must" and the interviews I've wasted my time with because "bi-lingual a plus" is spoken is beyond ridiculous!! I've even had employers refuse to give me an application or tell me since I am not bi-lingual "you probably won't get hired." How is this NOT discrimination?? How is this even allowed??

I have a Masters degree as a MFT Intern and it is unfair to not be able to fully advance in my career because of a new language barrier. Sadly, most of the populations served are not even documented... When did it become a requirement for English to be insubordinate and learn Spanish as a primary language to get a job and advance in my career as an American Citizen? Annoyed!!!!

Agreed. I have a B.A. in Psych, 10+ years of experience in my field, but do not qualify for the majority of jobs in California because I am not bilingual. It is time to move. The new laws are just empowering more immigrants to come here and STAY illegal. Why try for a legal status when you can stay illegal under the law? I even had to move my child to another school because the teacher asked me to. She said he was the only child who didn't speak spanish, so she couldn't give him the attention he needs. Really? My son is now the minority in his classroom and has to change schools because he's white? This is no longer an American, English speaking state. I am not racist, but the truth is- You must be a Mexican to get a job in California. (And soon- you child must speak spanish to get taught at school)

So im at clinic to see my pcd ladies, i had to wait until someone who speaks English comes out just to sign me in, i begin to get annoyed and chica at the front desk beats me mad and starts raging out in Spanish to her Co-worker like Im the problem. This also happened to me when I called a local Taxi company that has been around for years, they now answer in Spanish not English, and will place you on hold for translation. Good luck America!

I was taught English and NEVER told that Spanish is a requirement for adverage jobs. Houston Hispanic Chambers Brags that they are the new MAJORITY and exclude English speaking Americans as a form of discrimination. Its rude and wrong to not protect American English speaking folks. To serve on jury duty in Houston you MUST speak ENGLISH or you cannot serve jury duty! So why be fare in other jobs? Help English speaking Americans please!!! Thanks, John Taylor Houston Texas

I have been destitute and forced to live off of my mother's social security and food stamps for 3 years because I'm stranded in a town that has 90% spanish only speaking members of the community. This town is in America and I'm discriminated against every day even though I'm vastly overqualified for the positions I'm applying for. It's caused me to want to end my life, because there's not way for me to move to a better place.

Why is this tolerated! And how did spanish sneak in as a dominator for a job requirement. I'll tell you how. The hiring party (not upper-management) decided to change and control their work environment, for the benefit of a race of people, only. This is wether qualified or not !!!. English speakers it is time to question, challeng and resist this forced method to hire in a English Speaking country. I'LL SPEAK SPANISH IF I WANT, TOO...NOT IF I HAVE, TOO.

With a Bachelor's Degree and Highest Honors upon graduation from a top University, I am a white English speaking woman who is also affected by the foreign language requirement of many jobs posted. Considering a Master's Degree but honestly with so many jobs posted requiring fluent Spanish, it seems a setup for further discrimination. I have already endured sexual harrassment at every job of my life as a woman. It would be nice to be able to go into a new career with advanced training, obtain a license, and know that my perfect command of the English language and above average IQ would be enough to gain employment without learning a second language. Sadly, this seems not to be the case. It is blatant racial discrimination to require a foreign language for a skilled position, and sad that I have to be Anonymous to say so or risk being labeled a racist. When my grandparents came to America to escape persecution, they learned English and practiced medicine in English after training in a different language. Many generations of families have done the same. Why should Spanish speakers be any different?

I concur with what everyone's comments. I immigrated to US with my family about 18 years ago. Having to learn English along with adapting to the American way of life, culture, food, and education wasn't a simple challenge. But through time and efforts, we managed to survive and adapt to our new way of life here. To see job listings that required language other than English especially where the jobs are located (US soil) is just flat out prejudiced, biased, and unfair. If we, immigrants, from other countries over the world managed to learn, read, and write in English; then why can't the Hispanic immigrants or civilians do the same? Job postings that required Spanish fluency is not only hurting the natives in getting employment but also serves as a slap to us immigrants.

Trapped in a medical job I want out of in San Diego, I can't change jobs because I'm required to be fluent in the language of Mexico. This is stupid. You move to France you speak French, you move to Germany you speak German. (Like I did when I moved there) Wake up America, This is Discrimination and it works both ways. When a culture looses its language its a form of genocide. May sound stupid to some, but its the truth, and everyone is too afraid of being labeled a "racist" so they won't speak up, just sit silent and take it. Welcome to the third world.
