It is a total disgrace to be denied the opportunity to even apply to a job I went to school to be certified to do. There is enough discrimination in the U.S. to begin with. Why must we add to the problem? This is totally unacceptable to allow this to continue in our country. Please do something about this! -

Been denied jobs in the past two years that would have paid significantly higher than my current job BECAUSE i didn't know spanish. I had all the credentials, everything that they asked for, except for Spanish. So someone, who may not be as skilled as I, is more LIKELY to get a better paying job just because they know how to speak Spanish even though it hasn't been officially declared as a second language in the United States.REPORT COMMENTS

Companies have found a new way to hire illegals. Now the employment agencies do the dirty work for them. I do not speak spanish and where I worked, the illegals who trained me did not speak english and I was the one who was discriminated. I love my Country. I believe as a United States citizen the jobs should be given to us first. Our Country is broken. Here is a fact: A family of 4 legals apply for welfare, if they have income it is used in thier budget to determine how much benefits they will receive. A family of 4, 2 illegals and 2 legals apply for welfare, if there is income from the illegal then that income is prorated by half. How wrong is that? These rules were made by our own government. Lately I wished I could be illegal so I can work in my own Country. 😡REPORT COMMENTS

This is not fair to people that are born and raised here with so much jobs requiring being bilingual. There is so much foreigners moving here and allowing employers to be able to require this give a very unfair advantage to those foreigners making born and raised americans have a really difficult time getting jobs its ridiculous.REPORT COMMENTS

That is so right, why is it that English which is our country's language is now considered a hindrance. I would think after paying for non-english to speak our language and which actually brings down our school system because of so much money allocated for bilingual causing less money for our children. Also so tired of trying to find a job and because not bilingual they go to someone else who didnt choose to be bilingual but came to this country and used our tax dollars to become bilingual by our country just giving everything away and not care about it's citizens. If Trump runs for office, our complete family will vote for him. There needs to be changes like yesterday.REPORT COMMENTS

I am have a Masters of Science in Nursing and it is such a pity that I took the time to educate myself only to be denied a job because I don't speak Spanish. Last I checked this country was the United States of America not South or Central America. This trend is out of hand & disrespectful for many. Why is that many immigrants migrate to this country, worked hard to learn the native language (English, last I checked) but the Latin community can just come here and automatically qualify for every position because they can speak Spanish (regardless of training and experience some times). I am being frustrated and something have to change.REPORT COMMENTS

I am a college student who has only had one job so far, a seasonal factory job. I want to build my resume as well as need a job to help my parents out. I have been turned away countless times because I do not speak Spanish. It's depressing that I am at a stand still so early in life because no one will give me a second look simply because I am not bilingual.REPORT COMMENTS

I have been in the healthcare field for 10 years doing referrals and authorizations, and scheduling, I cant find work to support my small son because the healthcare industry now wants you to speak Spanish. I even thought about going back to school to get an MA or finish my degree in Nutrition Science, but Im having second thoughts. If I need to be bilingual than what would be the point????? If the United States is now a bilingual country then they need to start enforcing Spanish as apart of the education curriculum. When I grew up in school Spanish was an elective you chose, not an enforcement. It is unfair, racist and discriminatory that employers tell people that they must be bilingual in Spanish and English if its not enforced in public schools. Mabey for my children's sake it should be, but there continues to be a whole generation out there where Spanish was an elective, therefore they are not bilingual. Bottom Line, ITS DISCRIMINATION AND IT NEEDS TO STOP!!!!REPORT COMMENTS

It's already hard to get a job as a military wife when you move a lot and employers see gaps, but now that I am in TX, I'm finding it extremely difficult to apply for or get hired by places because most of them require that you are bilingual and speak Spanish around here. This is America. The official language is English last I knew. I feel like this is discrimination and now my employment gap is even larger. I feel like I'm being forced out of lots of jobs here and I don't know what to do.REPORT COMMENTS

Equal opportunity of employment act of 1964 states that anyone can get a job, regardless of race, gender, skin color, or languages learned. I feel as if that if this bilingual requirement is discriminating most of the American people who are flat out unable to learn another language no matter how hard they try. It's like erecting a solid steel wall to those who can't learn this said language, only cause the Spanish taught in the books IS NOT the same Spanish as those who are speaking it. They are most likely outdated by I don't know, 10+ years, and there hasn't been a single update on these said products. They rip you off because you are learning an outdated language that does not keep up with the current times. It's 2015. Yet, I still see management being sometimes unable to speak both English and Spanish at a given point in time. Usually, I hear only one or the other being spoken from a single person, not both. Unless I see every manager being able to be bilingual, don't bother slapping it on an application as a requirement. There are products that have English and Spanish translated into each other. Why can't management do the same? Either update the language software so that it isn't a ripoff, or make language classes in community colleges for those unfortunate enough to having been unable to learn that required language in high school due to some freaking excuse relating to points or budgets. We're Americans. We should be solving problems, not making pathetic excuses to promote a bad economy and a lazy generation to make it worse. Obama has put blame and holes on other people for them to solve, and this made me flat out gave up voting cause said politicians only lie, cheat, and act childish around others. The reality is realizing that there are two evils. One being greater than another.REPORT COMMENTS
