I am a white female, English speaking, American who is unemployed. I am basically self employed and constantly struggling because I cannot find employment. The wages are low to minimum wage and employers want Spanish. I'm in my 40's and I feel discriminated against, not only for my age but mainly my language. The majority of jobs here prefer or REQUIRE you to speak English and Spanish. I want to retrain for the medical field but I am told don't bother unless you speak Spanish. This is an outrage and so obvious what is happening to this country! All the businesses here have mexican workers. Any place I go, the majority of workers I see are Mexican. Those are the facts. Mexicans are not minority. WHITES are MINORITY here.REPORT COMMENTS

I have been out of work for a while due to the fact I do not speak Spanish. Almost every job Ive looked at requires spanish speaking employees. I am being discrimnated against because I only speak English. Being raised in the United States schools did not require learning spanish, nor did I have the option but now im being left behind by people who were raised in a spanish speaking family or had the opportunities I did not. I have a Medical Assistant Degree that I can not use because I do not speak Spanish for an employer to even look at me for my skills.REPORT COMMENTS

We are tired of being discrimated against for jobs we qualify for because employers hire Illegal immigrants before they will hire American English speakers! Stop catering to Criminals who migrate illegally into the us! We are 3rd class citizens in our own Country behind the 1 percent and illegal immigrants. They use our ssn to get jobs then we are penalized and made to pay taxes, fraud alerts and pay back the debt they incurred ILLEGALLY using our Ssn. Stop harboring crimals at the cist of the American public and job market! Hold companies financially liable for any and all illegal aliens they hired. Use the federal equal employment act to collect the data from companies who hire under skilled illegal Spanish speakers instead of Citizens! Whom have applied for the SAME position! Put Americans first in America, kike every other civilized nation.REPORT COMMENTS

I too have been recently looking at jobs for which I am qualified, with the exception of Bilingual preferred. And if that isn't enough, in parentheses right next to this now familiar phrase it states (Spanish/English)! But we've already come to know that Bilingual in America means you MUST speak English and Spanish. No other language. No other exception. How has this become an accepted practice in an English speaking nation? Maybe we should look to our elected leaders who address it's cities first in English and then in Spanish! It's a disgraceful and discriminatory practice to the hard working AMERICAN born citizens. Jobs are so hard to come by. Why does congress want to make it harder?REPORT COMMENTS

In Los Angeles no matter how qualified you are you will be looked over for all positions if you do not speak Spanish. When English (esl) is taught for free to non english speakers in grade school. Seems to me English should be a requirement or Spanish should be taught in grade school to all. How is this system fair when it's set up to keep citizens from working in their own Country. We already foot the bill for excessive and rampant illegal immigrants and give them any and all services for free that citizens don't have access to. That alone drains the economy and takes jobs away from citizens. Unemployment would be far lower if companies weren't allow to hire undocumented labor, allow them to destroy citizens credit by using their ssn, pay them under the table so they can send the money out of the country instead of pumping it into the American economy. All the jobs illegal aliens claim no one else wants were being done by Americans before they ran across the border and gained preferential treatment over citizens allowing illegal aliens greater access to loans, education and even hold polical appointments in a country at the very least they should have been deported from instead of speading money housing them in our country on our dime in jail with " three hots, and a cot".REPORT COMMENTS

People try to use the excuse that illegals just take the jobs nobody wants. This is a lie. People of the working class are desperate for almost any job at this point. But if they speak English only, the cannot get anyone to hire them. They come here illegal and demand to be accommodated by the US. And our country is so stupid that it has let it slide and put everything in english and spanish. I don't see America doing that for any other races. This is America. Not Mexico. Those who don't speak Spanish should not be penalized for it. We were born here. Our native language is English. Why are we bending over backwards for people who have already broken our laws.REPORT COMMENTS

I am a very experienced individual with 20 plus years in the legal field. I am very intelligent except I can't get hired for jobs that I am qualified for because I speak EGLISH only. These are good, decent jobs such as hospitals, schools, including some government jobs. I've voted for both Republicans, and Democrats throughout the years and find It's becoming much harder to decide for whom to vote. On the one hand illegal immigration is a huge problem; on the other you have big business controlling congress and the government. I will say this though, for the majority of illegals, they work very hard for very low wages and no benefits so their children, born here, have a better future. But I resent the fact that as an American citizen I and our children are forced to learn the language of another cujlture, within the USA and cannot get hired for job I am highly qualified for. I am angry and frustrated. What is our government going to do about it? To be clear, I do not support Donald Trump. He is a rude, obnoxious, uncaring, bigoted bigmouth. But he is entitled to his opinion. . His approach is all wrong; dare I say uncivil. Cooler heads must come up with a solution, and fast. NOTE TO THE MEXICAN GOVERNMENT: STAY THE HELL OUT OF OUR AFFAIRS. YOUR OPINIONS DON'T MATTER. THIS IS NOT YOUR COUNTRY. THE ONLY BUSINESS YOU HAVE IS TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR OWN CITIZENS. OTHER THAN BEING IN THIS COUTRY ILLE GALLY, MOST ILLEGALS ARE GOOD PEOPLE. AS FOR THE BAD APPLES, WE HAVE PLENTY OF OUR. OWN. Pardon my shouting. CONGRESSMAN, SENATORS COME TOGETHER AND DO SOMETHING. STOP FIGHTNG AND HATING ON THE CURRENT PRESIDENT. YOU'VE WASTED SO MUCH TIME AND HAVE GOT NOTHING ACCOMPLISED. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THIS BEHAVIOR. YOU ARE PAID WELL WITH GREAT BENEFITS FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, WITH TAXPAYER MONEY, MORE THAN MORE THAN I'LL EVER HAVE. SO, GET TO WORK AND DEAL WITH THE IMMIGRATION PROBLEM. NOTE TO DEMOCRAT AND REPUBLICANS: STOP PANDERING TO CERTAIN GROUPS SO THAT SOMETHING GETS DONE.REPORT COMMENTS

I now have a hard time speaking to my Spanish speaking banker at Wells Fargo Bank. I am curious why? I speak fluent English, thought to me in this town since 1951. I bank at a bank in this town where the Spanish speaking bankers can't truly understand me, my hospital now requires me to gesture and attempt communication with a Spanish speaker, the doctors Spanish origin accent is very strong. Finally I pull the single annoying weed at my apartment I rent because the Spanish speaking grounds maintainer shamed me for speaking to him in EnglishREPORT COMMENTS

As someone who is originally from India, I am also passionate about this issue. I am an immigrant and my people are expected to learn English. But I am beginning to see more and more jobs requiring Spanish. First it was blue collar jobs, but now it is going up to white collar as well. I am beginning to see HR, lawyers, accountants, police, nurses, doctors being required to know Spanish When I last looked at immigration, I think 40% of immigrants are not from Spanish speaking places. How is it fair to expect 40% of us to start learning two languages, whilst Spanish speakers scratch the surface of just one? Isn't this a country of immigrants for all people? This country has had millions come in, but has so many accommodations been made for anyone else? If you are a minority and support the Democrats, stop and think for a moment. Yes white Republicans support English for different reasons, but that goal is in our best interest. It is not fair to expect one section of immigrants to learn two languages. No other group has had to do that.REPORT COMMENTS

The majority of people in the U.S. speak English as their primary language, and should not be required to speak alternative languages for a job within this country. This is discriminatory, and should be upheld by Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.REPORT COMMENTS

The petition creator and other signers nailed it. All my family (biological parents) and adopted are immigrants and did it legally. I was raised to embrace people and culture and to respect the country I am visiting or living in and my own, the USA. We speak English here and when an American goes somewhere else, they must learn that language that applies to live there. Why are we allowing discrimination to our own language for a country and to US citizens! I think it is going to change, because citizens are tire of it, but it is good to learn other languages but not necessary for work. Hispanics come here and bring down our payscales and choose not to speak english and bring more welfare into our system and most illegals are hispanic or latino..it is the truth and they demand what other have to earn...I am part hispanic and the countries they come from are full of poverty and bad government, so they come here and bring the same problems with them and we allow it. It is not hate and more an more Americans are tired of it and are going to do something about it...It starts with going back to what makes US not so poverished and deporting illegals and keeping English as the only language for a job and that is it. Shame on our companies and government for allowing what has taken place. I love people and all cultures. Ojala que cosas cambie muy rapido, porque hablamos English en los estados unidos...we speak English, earn the right legally to be here and learn it...EnglishREPORT COMMENTS
