We should as American citizens be able to get a job based on our skill not on what language we can speak.

This country has become the United States of Mexico. The international language of business is ENGLISH, not Spanish! It is insanely discriminatory for employers to have bias towards Spanish speakers. If that's the case and they are screening potential employees because they want Spanish speakers (Mexicans) then that's also unlawful as well. You cannot discriminate based on race!

Biligual being used as a "preference" seems to simply mean a company would prefer to hire a latino. If it isnt a job requirement it should not be considered as it often is tied to nationality. This is a tactic being used to lock the job market and push americans out of areas being overrun by illegal immigrants

It would be nice to have been told in grade school that I would not be able to get a basic labor job unless I could speak spanish. I was taught that english was the national language of USA. Can I apply for welfare in english?

I was sent home on my first day training at work because I did not know Spanish. Most of the workers in that class did not speak any English. That day did not help me pay back my college loans. (Advance Auto Part Distribution center Kutztown PA)

I have been looking for work in the medical field for the past year. 99 percent of the postiions advertised for employment states must be bilingual! This is USA which is a English speaking country. This is totally being discriminated against us born as Americans. We American's should not be put out of positions we are qualified for over an unqualified person just because they speak Spanish. If we went to a Spanish speaking country and applied for work they would only hire Spanish speaking citizens so we in America should not be catering to the bilingual speaking population only! We Americans are being looked over for employment because we speak English. This is definitely discrimination

I have an Associate degree and a Bachelor's degree, almost two year since graduation I still cannot find one opportunity in S. FL because the Hispanic community have the upper-hand in S. FL and when you call some of these businesses/corporations the individuals that are answering the phones can't even speak English, asking you to hold on while they get someone that speak English.

I can't a job that I'm more than qualified for with 3 degrees and years of experience because I don't have Spanish as a fluent language and further am not bilingual. This is America. The basic language is English. Native born Americans are being discriminated on. This isn't a Spanish country. I'm not prejudiced. But, I'm tired of being discriminated and left behind because I'm not Spanish. This is America and the Spanish culture have taken over. We are discriminated and have been forced out our own labor force. How are Americans going to change this. Republicans have taken over and messed up big in Texas, Florida and predominantly Spanish immigration states. I must get out of Texas immediately.

Here in San Diego there is a huge Mexican population and as a result the San Diegans who only speak English cannot apply for jobs because employers are asking them to speak Spanish or be bilingual. Every other culture living in San Diego has had to learn English without the benefit of someone speaking their language. Why doesn't this apply to Spanish speakers? This is a new form of employment discrimination and it must be stopped.

This is discrimination in itself. We should not be made to learn Spanish for any job unless it is for a translator job and should be marked as such. Many immigrates before now had to learn English to work and go through day to day activities. There are so many great jobs I am qualified for but can not get just because I can't speak Spanish. I live in Texas and yes understand these issues first hand. What has America come to? Even at my daughter's meet the teacher for pulbic school there was an interpreter to translate English to Spanish, what! Why! Guess what tax dollars paid for that..... It's ridiculous, this is the United States and English is our language. Immigration should be the number 1 issue this election, these concessions need to stop....

I was looking this up on google and I am glad I found a page and I am not the only one. I have been looking for work in Miami for the last 2 months. I was working in a CPA firm for the last 9 years. I recently got laid off and I can say it is so hard for me to find a job because I am not Bilingual. I have been on 5 interviews and that is the first thing they ask. I am not racist, my dad is from Bolivia and my mom is from France. They both came here legally, my dad had to join the army to become a citizen in the 60's. He took time to learn the language and so did my mom. I am outraged and frustrated that every job that I am qualified for I can't get because I don't speak Spanish. WTF, I mean if I didn't speak English and spoke Spanish I would be hired. That shouldn't be one of the questions, it should be do you speak and read English. I feel like I am an immigrant in my own town of Miami in the USA. I am having to start looking North for work because of the Bilingual qualifications. I don't think it's fair for Americans born here, we are starting to become the minorities. I now know how the Indians felt, we are becoming over run by thousands of immigrants and if we don't speak their language we are screwed. How is that fair, it's not. I would like to give support to everyone on this site, I know how you feel. It is very frustrating. I sure hope Trump becomes our President and puts a stop to this crap.

It's hard enough being out of work and searching for employment for 4 years. An American with professional skills and qualifications which include speaking the language of this country, we as Americans should not have to compete with non english speakers for a job in your own country. No other country allows immigrants to come in illegally and take over to a point where the citizens can not find work because they do not speak a language that the country itself does not speak. Employers who ask for bilingual speaker only apply should be fined, because that could also mean they are hiring illegal immigrants. What has America come to, it is not taking care of the people who are citizens, the people who pay the taxes, the people who help pay the American way, the people who helped build and fight for this country. There is no such thing as an equal opportunity employer if so why are so many Americans without employment?

I am so tired of loosing out to jobs because I am not bilingual, it is already hard being a single mom in her 40's. Every job I have applied for requires being bilingual and than I get the phone interview and they ask me even though the ad did not say so. I am so disgusted, this is America, there should be a law that if you come into this country you need to learn our language, ENGLISH!!! GO TRUMP!!!

There are tens of thousands of English speaking Americans looking for work in this country.I am an unemployed eighth generation American whose ancestors fought to win this country's freedom and independence. To be ineligible for gainful employment due to not speaking Spanish is a direct result of the disrespect shown by Hispanic and Latino immigrants towards other American citizens.Due to their unwillingness to learn English, like American immigrants have for over two hundred years,we are now seeing the negative ramifications that affect everyone.Communication is the cornerstone of society.Without it fundamental boundaries are set on our ability to live in harmony with each other. It's not a matter of law to learn the language of a country and it's people,it's a matter of respect.
