Its almost impossible to find a job not requiring you to speak Spanish these days. This is America!! And English spoken country!! I'm of Latino decent and do not speak fluently but get turned down repeatedly because the company is looking for Spanish speakers..Even if they have a company full of them..Unfair!!!

What's outrageous is that I'm Hispanic, and therefore MUST speak more Spanish than English at work. I was raised in this country and had to learn Spanish just to start working

I feel discriminated against when I see Equal Opportunity then after it reads must speak spanish. I'm not racist at all but I want to be able to get a good high paying job too. I been in a lot of businesses where some spanish workers flat out told me I speak no english after I asked them to assist me.

I am so glad to see this letter. I am struggling with this issue as I live in Hubbard, OR and speak only English. This is not good enough for many local jobs of all kinds. Especially the State of Oregon is discriminating as an employer requiring bilingual people for its jobs.

I have worked for a non-profit for 3 years and now they have let me go because they want someone who can speak Spanish. I have been dealing with the Hispanic community since I started working there and all of a sudden this is an issue? I believe this is discrimination against English speakers. How am I losing my job for speaking my home language at HOME!? How can we allow this to happen? We need more people to speak out and stop this nonsense!

I feel I have worked hard to get in the position I am in but when you see "must be bilingual" it take all that hard work away. How does speaking a non native launguage makes me a better employee? I do speak spanish and I feel it still should not be a requirement. I feel it is discrimatory, againt non speakers.

It should not be a requirement. It definitely feels like discrimination when during an interview you are asked if you speak Spanish and reply no and are then told well I have no other questions for you with a look as to get out of their office. This is not right! I am half Hispanic and this even makes me feel horrible, I can imagine others. English is our primary language, learn it! If not, then a company can have an interpretor.

Another day of disappointment. I've been looking for a new job now for at least 1 month and still no green light all because I do not speak the SPANISH language. Don't get me wrong I love the Latino community but this just isn't right. I've worked my*****off to gain certifications, licenses etc in my field all for what? To get told I dont qualify for the job NOT because I don't possess the skills but because I don't speak SPANISH! I'm sorry but AMERICA needs to DO something and FAST. Our government are so busy focusing on petty issues that they're to blind to see that the AMERICAN...ENGLISH speaking citizens are struggling. I feel the ONLY time that SPANISH should be a requirement for a job is if it's a job dealing with TRANSLATION (common sense...DUH), other then that we should not have to ignore 75% of job ads because it says "BILINGUAL REQUIRED". I'm going to end this post with saying today I felt really good after submitting my resume to an employer stating "Good Morning, attached you will find my resume in which I'm submitting for the advertised position. I'm not bilingual but possess all of the other skills in which you're seeking!". Okay I'm done venting.

Frustrated that every job I can do expects you to be bilingual therefore I do not qualify. Last I checked this is America and English is our language. If I moved to Mexico or even France I would be expected to learn there language to communicate with them. Not the other way around.

I am qualified for so many jobs, but because I was born here in America and do not speak Spanish, I do not get the job. LEARN ENGLISH !!! This is discrimination!!!! Other countries do not do this to their citizens, but America is the kiss every foreigner's A** country. It makes me furious and sick.

Guys, it is just simple economy. Business people have to be capable to sell to the Hispanic segment of the population, which is huge, as you know, like it or not. It is a fact and nobody will convince them to sell less because cannot contact the customers in Spanish. Just get used to it and learn Spanish or remain in second place? It is a necessary skill in the country in these days. Around the world, to know more than one language is something good, profitable and culturally desirable, I don?t know how so many Americans do not understand this simple fact.

I am one angry American! I have been on a job search recently and the field that I am in deals with customers over the phone and all of the jobs i have checked out, they want you to be bilingual! I don't mind spanish at all but when it comes to these companies they are absolutely catering to the Latino group and them only and that isn't fair at all!! I live in Arizona where illegal immigrants are a huge problem and yet they get catered to and first in line for the jobs, and higher pay!! Something needs to be done about this IMMEDIATELY!!!

Lost my job of ten years last year in a medical practice because they needed a MA who could speak Spanish. The Doctor is not even Spanish. The land of the free and the home of the brave for everybody but Americans I guess. I've been on numerous interviews since then and they are all more concerned with how many languages I can speak instead of my qualifications. Shameful...

Citizens of the USA born here learn English, so you are asking me to speak a language probably catering to non-citizens or illegals...this is wrong! USA citizens should be able to get jobs based on skills not speaking a foreign language unless they are translators.
