I have a college degree, but can't get a job in my field because I refuse to speak Spanish. This is still America, right?

Why doesn't this stupid country ever do the Right thing and make it mandatory that every citizen of this country communicate in English only! The Founding Fathers of this country wrote everything esp. the U.S. Constitution in English, NOT a foreign language. Immigrants that don't assimilate should be deported immediately.

I just moved to Miami and I've been on several interviews,I have over 15 years experience been a nurse and all my interviews wants to know if I'm bilingual and the funniest thing is I couldn't not understand some of them because they don't speak understandable English. This frustrates me because I need a job I have bills and my qualifications and experience are not taken into consideration

Almost all available jobs in my area require you speak Spanish. Unless the job is for a translator from English to Spanish, how can this not be descrimination? If an employer posted a job saying you must speak English, that's decriminalization

I went to school to for 2 years to get my associates degree in the medical field...we had a job fair at school and all the employers wanted BILINGUAL...employees! all they chose were Hispanic students with no experience! I had over 10 years experience and they would not even talk to me unless I spoke Spanish!..that's discrimination at its best! I should not have to speak Spanish to get a job in America!

I was eliminated from my position of ten years at the same job as a medical assistant and replaced by a bilingual girl who spoke horrible English. You couldn't understand anything she said, but she was apparently more qualified than me since she spoke Spanish. They let me train her for three weeks then they gave me the pink slip. Smh!!! 10 years Wasted!!

I am 54 years old and never had to and should not have to learn another language in my own country in order to get a job. If they want to live here, they should learn the English language or go back to where they came from.

What about stop complaining and start learning another languages? Not only Spanish, but Chinese, Korean and German. Hispanic people as well as South Africans, Bosnians, South Koreans, Japanese, even Afghans come here and learn English. Why can't we do the same? I think that we are the problem. While we are complaining here there a lot of foreigners learning not only our language but also other languages. It's time to play smart and start changing our approach!

Cubans, Mexicans are talking in Spanish in the stores all over the place. We American are become a outcast!!! If I was in Mexico or Cuba and demand the English language spoken. It's sad I'm Native American and I can't find work here in Miami based on qualifications it's all based on do you or don't you speak Spanish . If you come to the States it be required that they learn our native language not we as Americans learning their language to make them comfortable or make it easier for them. I pay taxes and my tax dollars are going toward advancing them not Americans or single native American mothers like me.

I believe that requiring Spanish for construction work is unfair. Unless it is a manager or foreman who must give instructions to employees of different cultures, only one language should be required. I believe my fellow Latinos are using the "language loophole" as an excuse not to hire African-Americans.

My ancestors needed to learn English to survive here. When did that change? Why am I being denied jobs because I don't speak any other language than our national language? And that's not considered discrimination?

It's unfair, and single mothers that only speak English need jobs also, I'm tired of seeing jobs where you have to speak Spanish or your disqualified from the job position. ..

Every job I try to apply at asks for bilingual (English/Spanish). I already am bilingual in another language. I should not have to learn a 3rd language, just to get a job in America. Why not make all of the illegals learn English?

I have been a taxpayer for 3+ decades here, and have paid for the freebies, jobs and teaching of English to those whom my daughter and I now compete with for jobs. Americans and their giving nature has paid for it all, and now we struggle to just get by if we are fortunate enough to find a job where they will hire us. Now we are discarded after a lifetime of helping these others with our tax dollars. This has all happened so fast it is mind blowing.
