I am unable to find a job in Houston Texas based on the fact I don't speak Spanish. How can I be an American if I can't find a job that respect English as my first language.May 6th, 2016Someone from San Diego, CA signed.

Americans shouldn't have to apply for food stamps etc We have great skills but because we don't speak Spanish in our own country we can't find jobs. I know people that tried to find jobs in Mexico but because they didn't speak Spanish they wouldn't hire them. What is going on in the USA ?REPORT COMMENTS

I graduated with a Bachelor's in Accounting. My husband and I moved to Miami due to military orders. He does not need to worry about being bilingual in Spanish since the military covers him wherever he goes. As for me, I can't even get an accounting job without being able to speak Spanish. All I want to do is help my husband support our family. I want to expand my knowledge, but I cannot do that if every company expects me to speak Spanish. If we only knew Florida was full of discrimination against non-bilinguals, we would not have moved here! I am from Guam and majority of the people speak English. The native language is Chamorro, but no one expects us to speak Chamorro. Chamorros, who are the native people of the island, learned to speak English. There have been a lot of Filipinos, as well, who have moved to Guam to give their families better lives. No one told the Filipinos to speak English. These people forced themselves to speak English because they knew English is the language that will get them far in life. As for Florida, all I hear is the Spanish language. One person told me to find a job north of Miami, where they speak English. Why do I have to drive an hour to a job that accepts English speaking people? Why can't the jobs in Miami learn to accept everyone equally? Just because I don't speak Spanish does not mean you are any better than me.REPORT COMMENTS

I am Cuban / Italian descent. My families were grateful to have the US house and feed them so they assimilated both in language and culture. What's happening in Miami is a travesty! They hire those who don't speak English but won't hire those who don't speak Spanish!! Why do they get away with reverse discrimination??? Can't they be penalized???REPORT COMMENTS

USA is an English speaking country. Let the Hispanics learn our language. Employers should not discriminate against English speaking people.REPORT COMMENTS

I live in Miami, FL and I apply for all sorts of public jobs; however, the requirement is that I must be fluent in Spanish! I was born and raised in the United States of America. The Hispanics should be the one's that learn our language, not the other way around. Please stop this!REPORT COMMENTS

So many jobs require I speak spanish or Mandrin Chinese in my own country, where I was born and raised, that I am narrowly limited in finding any work that I am qualified for or meet my deaired wages. I was never required to learn Spanish in school ylso where does that leave me?REPORT COMMENTS

I have a full-time job but have been searching for a part-time job to make ends meet. I am absolutely qualified for the jobs that I have applied for, and in some cased, have interviewed for. I have been turned down for every one. I am convinced it is because I do not speak Spanish. This is absolutely unacceptable that I cannot find employment because people come in to MY country to benefit from MY tax contributions and refuse to learn MY language. It is absolutely disgraceful.REPORT COMMENTS

Over 95% of jobs posted on CA job seekers sites require bilingual in Spanish or Korean, Why? Did America move ?? Basic clerical jobs through private partners of Gov jobs require to be bilingual in Spanish, I tried hard to find a job in Orange county, CA but in vain. Even medical or dental offices they request Spanish or Korean !! I am sad and tired of this.REPORT COMMENTS

I consider my self American even though my parents are Dominican, There were several moments I would try and learn Spanish my self and it just didn't click with me. Especially those moments where people ostracize me just because i don't know spanish... Clearly something something needs to be done about this.REPORT COMMENTS

Oh I agree on this petion 100% . This is America. Our national language is English. I don't understand how in my own country I cannot get a good job or any job because I'm not bilingual in Spanish. But yet I can walk into any store/doctors office and people that speak only Spanish are hired! This is total discrimination. I have had people get very upset with me because I don't speak their language. When I visit other countries I don't expect them to know my language but this is America, we need to stop catering to outsiders and treating our natural borns like we are the immigrants. I am a white single mother, their are no grants for me anywhere out there. But if I was Spanish, the government would give me all types of grants. Totally unfair and needs to change!REPORT COMMENTS

Someone PLEASE explain to me how I am 3rd Generation of Italian immigrants in my family and everyone had TO learn ENGLISH to establish RESIDENCY + CAREERS. Now we live in a world where we are EXPECTED + REQUIRED to be speak another language that is not considered an American-Speaking LANGUAGE!! I busted my behind for four years in College to make something of myself. Being the only one in my family to ever go to College, you tell me what was the benefits???? I cannot apply to any positions in my State. I have to find work far from home because NO COMPANY nearby allows NON-bilingual people. This is evil, pathetic, and quite disturbing to think I will never pay off college debt because I cannot find a job!!! Not to mention my families who learned English are now REQUIRED to SPEAK SPANISH. WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THIS COUNTRY?? You supply welfare, section 8 and food stamps for IMMIGRANT families.. WHAT DO THE U.S AMERICANS HAVE???REPORT COMMENTS

I should not have to drive 30 miles one way to work because I do not speak spanish and the only jobs available within a reasonable distance from my home are "bilingual candidates only". It would be nice to go into a store in my area and get someone who speaks decent english so that if I have a problem or need assistance it can actually be resolved.REPORT COMMENTS
