I cannot believe that in this country the majority of the jobs say bilingual only. To me that is discrimination. I shouldn't have to speak a foreign language to get a job in my country....,! Our children are required to take Spanish to graduate but they are not required to take English - which is another requirement we as American's have to take to graduate even though that is our language....What has happened to our country. I'm tired of going to restaurants or calling on places and they do not speak English - this is BULL!REPORT COMMENTS

I am a qualified american citizen. I should not have to leatn another language in my own country. I have nothing against those who come here seeking a better life. However you should at least try to speak english. This is America and I have the right to speak Ennglish. I should not to be pressured to speak another language.REPORT COMMENTS

I am sick and tired seeing "bilingual preferred" even though it only applies to spanish. what about those who speak mandarin or tagalog? If i speak one of those languages I'm "bilingual" but not their kind of bilingual. I'm sick of this spanish preferred BS. If you want to come to this country legal or not then you need to learn the majority language. We should not have to cater to those who don't speak english and suffer not being able to find a job because we don't speak spanish!!!REPORT COMMENTS

I am beyond fed up with the discrimination against non-Spanish speakers when it comes to job offerings. The last I checked, this is the U.S.A. and English is the primary language here. If Latin Americans choose to live here, they should adapt by learning ENGLISH! I'm so tired of feeling like a foreigner in an area that I have lived all of my life. What makes matters worse is that these companies end up employing 2nd and 3rd generation (American)Latinos that have a sub par grasp of both English and Spanish. Enough is enough!REPORT COMMENTS

My job was founded by hispanics, i speak spanish but not fluently. now my employer says they will only hire spanish speaking agents. this is discrimination against our agents and our customers. well the company thinks they can hide behind an "it's a requirement" position to avoid trouble but its still discrimination against an able willing person wanting a position with the company. i had to take a test to get my license to work with this company and for them to tell me my license is less important because i don't speak spanish is ridiculous!1REPORT COMMENTS

I worked at Jobs Corps. in Miami next to the Homestead Air Force Base for 12 years. The center was closed down. I was laid off me including a hundred and fifty people . They are opening up a center for immigration I tried to apply but, you must be bilingual,, that I am , in writing it says Spanish preferred,,, that I am not ... I thought I was born and raised in Miami,,, United States Of America Not Cuba ! We as citizens of America can't go out of the country and be treated with first priority. My Grandmother always said to us as little kids " charity starts at home first."REPORT COMMENTS

Definitely the case. There are laws to protect those who can barely be understood speaking the English; it's ridiculous that citizens who don't know Spanish can be discriminated against.REPORT COMMENTS

I am a nurse and many of the job postings I see say that you must be fluent in another language. I am proficient in my nursing skills and that is what should be the deciding factor on my being qualified for a job. This is discrimination. It is an outrage!REPORT COMMENTS

After looking at job postings in a number of different states and cities I had a thought. I need to get the hell out of Texas. I have been told for three years that I won't be hired because I don't speak a foreign language. I am so sick of this crap! I am even getting the same crap from Workforce. Went to school, got a certificate, TAUGHT my field of study for over two years and now get told no. Insurance companies speak ENGLISH, forms are in ENGLISH, computer programs are in ENGLISH! WHY DO I NEED TO SPEAK SPANISH TO GET A JOB IN MY HOME STATE??????? Need to find a job somewhere that will pay moving expenses and let me pay it back over time. Anyone ever hear of a company like that?REPORT COMMENTS

I am from Texas. I actually left my home town, and state, just so I could find a job. My mother and step-father both have degrees in the medical field. However, my step-father has had to work as a security guard at a toy store, and my mother can't find a job at all. Simply because they do not know Spanish. My step-father knows a little, but not very much. Even in school, my teachers would speak Spanish to the students. We were not in a Spanish speaking class. It would even happen in my English class, and I graduated in 2013!REPORT COMMENTS
