This spanish speaking preference has cause my job searches to be alot longer. My brother missed key oppurtunities with this discriminatory unchecked requirement on hiring in a English speaking land.

I've been out of work for awhile. I get calls for good jobs based on my resume and accounting skills but when they find out I'm not bilingual I don't even get an interview. My 25 yrs. plus experience should land me a great job and with a comparable salary to my Spanish counter parts. Also working in an office, not on the phone, shouldn't require Spanish at all. The only time it should matter is if I am making sales calls or collections. I am Sr. Accounts payable, receivables, GL, data entry and reconciliations. Vendors never have had a problem with me not knowing Spanish. I'm sure it's discrimination just so I will "fit in" with the office girls. FYI I represent 14% of the population in Miami. White non Hispanic. Therefore, I AM a minority and should be treated as one. Minority should not have anything to do with color of skin. Offices should be diversified completely. Minority dollars should come my way for college, training, housing, etc. based on the census for my area.

I am so tired of the blatant discrimination in this realm. So many people are completely qualified for jobs they cannot even apply for because they don't speak Spanish. I understand that bilingual might be "preferred" but there is complete discrimination in this realm. To REQUIRE a spanish speaking candidate in a job that is not a translator position is discrimination and should be treated as such!

I am an African American and I feel like when jobs require Spanish in order for you to work. It is like waving a black people cant work here sign. As I said I am black and we do not come in any other language than English. Its just appalling that we need to speak Spanish but they need not speak English for a job.

I'm in need of a job to be able to contribute to the household bills and can't find one because I'm not bilingual. Our income is too much for any help of any sort. We can't move because my husbands job is his career. How is this fair?! I'm qualified for soooo many of these jobs!

I am a highly educated unemployed HR professional that is actively seeking HR work and I want to apply to HR jobs; however, I cannot because the job descriptions say as a requirement to speak, read, write Spanish. I don't. I am a natural born US citizen that speaks the language of US, which is English. This is the most blatant discrimination I have seen. Employers are pandering to the people that are from Mexico that will not learn the language of the USA. I am not a translator, so I do not need to speak, write and read Spanish for an HR position. I am tired of this and this needs to stop.

Just got denied today because I'm not fluent in Spanish even though I speak a moderate amount. She said I was fully qualified for the job, I'm a nurse. Not a translator. This is unfair & reverse discrimination. And I'm sick of it.

I finished my degree 3 years ago in social services at age 50. I was so excited to go into the field of social services except I can't find a job because I don't speak Spanish. I tried taking a spanish class at the local community college. I could not understand the instructor's accent as she was from South America and could not pronounce words properly in English! Why can't those that don't speak English bring a translator when needing help at government agencies, in line at the store for customer service, etc. I am so tired and frustrated because of this discrimination. We are doing a disservice to Spanish only speakers and and enabling them not to learn English. They have come to expect that we speak Spanish here in Houston. I noticed that the Vietnamese people that came here in 75 to the present not only learn our language but take on American names. They don't expect us to speak French or Vietnamese.

It is absolutely ridiculous that 85% of the job market here in South Florida demands that you speak Spanish. I am all for equal opportunity but this is downright discrimination.

Whatever happened to foreigners speaking English? It's not fair, it's unethical and very discriminatory that English speaking Americans have to be required to speak Spanish. They can get there English speaking kids to speak for them. All the jobs in Yuma, Az are practically Spanish descent. This is wrong. I need a job and can't get one because I don't speak Spanish. What about the other foreigners that are not a Spanish descent. They are taught to speak English. I think if a foreigners can not play by example laws and rules of United States of America they need to stay in there own country. Don't come to the US and tell us what to do and change us. Leave us alone let's earn our life like we were raised to do. Businesses should be shame for allowing this.
