My kids aren't even in highschool yet & the homework amounts are taking 2 to 5 hours a night & 2 days worth over weekends. It's getting to be out of control.Oct 19th, 2016Someone from Humble, TX writes:
I have homework everyday, even on the weekends. I usually come home from school and immediately start my homework, and yet i still stay up until midnight trying to finish my work. I know i'm not a slow worker, i finish all my work in class faster than everyone else and still get a good grade on it! Sometimes i even have to do my homework in other classes just to get it done in time. We have at least 1 or 2 projects for every subject at least twice a month, with little to no class time to work on them, which means we have to do the projects at home! I don't know how much longer i can put up with this constant homework, my grandparents say that they used to never have any homework when they were in school and even they're saying that the amount of homework we have is rediculous!!! PLEASE PUT AN END TO ALL OF THIS HOMEWORK!!!!REPORT COMMENTS

Yes, homework only stresses students out, and it is more of a hassle for everyone. Students already learn enough in school, and if education is forced even more, kids will simply lose the will to learn.REPORT COMMENTS

I have MANY responsibilities outside of school. It's difficult to take care of them, homework and still find time to relax... even for 5 minutes! I recall a teacher telling me once that school and homework is my 'job' and that I shouldn't focus on anything else. This is ridiculous! I have life to DO, not homework!REPORT COMMENTS

Students are being overwhelmed with homework and do not have any time for family dinners, get together, extra-curricular activities. They spend numerous hours on homework it is as if you were homeschooling them. Homework should not be packets or hours of work. It should just be something simple to go over what they learned in school. Kids are going to bed late due to the amount of homework and therefore don't even get enough sleep. Wake up tired with no energy sue to lack of sleep.REPORT COMMENTS

I want teachers to stop giving us homework on the weekends because we already had 5 days of homework non-stop. Students do not want to spend their weekend stuck in a room doing homework. I had to stay home all day just to do my homework when my parents went out and had fun in San Jose. That just makes me sad.REPORT COMMENTS

Family time is more important than a pile of daily homework which stresses the entire family out. Then, no quality time is experienced when everyone is in a rush and stressed out before bedtime.REPORT COMMENTS

It is time to recognize that children need more time to experience family life, socializing with peers, enjoying the outdoors and being active. Too many parents spend more time with their kids on structured frustrating paper-work than productive and healthy activities. Most adults would not choose to work a full day and then come home to additional work well past dinner. We should not expect this of our kids either. Homework builds negative associations to learning, school and responsibility. I have observed children feel unjustly treated and overly emotional about working and learning, instead of enjoying the new experiences and information they are receiving. There are days when young students do not have time to see the outdoors because of these demands. I am saddened every time a child has a family dinner with his paperwork just sitting there waiting for him to get back to work. It should also be said that family units are continuously getting smaller, requiring some parents to work long hours or several jobs to sustain their individual households. Their kids should not be at a disadvantage due to the socioeconomic stresses which impact parent's ability to be a resource to their kids. Our citizens do not magically transform into productive, optimistic and creative professionals, after a childhood of late evening homework done with a tired mind, sedentary body and longing playful heart.REPORT COMMENTS
