I think that we need to have some homework, especially for math, and that we obviously need to study for tests. But a lot of my teachers don't teach us anything during class; they just hand out a huge packet, don't explain it, and make us finish it for homework. Homework stresses us out. I'm always tired because I never get enough sleep and there are so many kids who are not getting enough exercise because they spend all of their time working. I think we need some homework, but teachers should have to talk to each other and figure out how much each of them is giving us. Many of my teachers seem to think that there class is the only one, and they forget about the other six that we have work for too.

Teachers give to much homework. Homework is good up to a certain point when to much homework is given it leads to stress. To much stress leads to depression and even some physical problems. Even if no one experiences these problems there still is the problem of adolescents not having enough sleep. Studies show that adolescents should get at least eight hours of sleep per night to get through REM sleep. If you are up until midnight every night doing homework and you are getting up every day at five to six in the morning what does the homework accomplish then? REM sleep is supposed to help you store information but most adolescents are not even getting to the longest stage of REM sleep that occurs around eight hours after adolescents fall asleep. One thing that REM sleep does is basically allow your mind to store information that you learned during the day. So what does homework accomplish?

We should seriously consider making homework optional, having teachers teach us more instead of just handing out assignments and expecting them to be due sooner than expected, and/or reducing homework all together! It'll help not only students, but teachers, parents (who have to help their kids with homework), and so many more people! I hope this petition works!

If we spend all our time doing homework no one has time to read or even exercise! The government keeps whining about how pronounced the "obesity epidemic" is in children! However, that is all drivel if the teachers have no restrictions for how much homework they give us. Most of it is pointless review or we simply do not get taught at school because teachers are lazy! We should be taught during school and have a reasonable amount so we have some time to do the things we want to do. A bit of practice is fine. Kids also need to sleep more than my average 4 1/2 hours per night. Homework is fine within the limits of reason, but a law NEEDS to be made to keep this within reason.

Homework should be optional. If it's counted as extra credit, more children will feel less stressed and have more room in their schedule to do their volunteer hours and sports. Plus, more homework does not make me any smarter. If i learn everything in class, homework is just a waste of time and paper.

Homework takes away our only chance to be adolescents! Not all of us our bad kids. Give us a chance to be free and relax every once in a while!

Its ridiculous to spend 7 or more hours at school everyday, plus sports and not to mention our social lives. Teachers don't realize the burden they put on their students everyday with sometimes HOURS of homework.
