Lets discuss this top to down and I guess my fellow readers who are saying H4 EAD should be scrapped will have a good understanding. 1. H4EAD is not a job, it is a work permit. Lets say you guys run a company or business, you post a job, several people apply, you give job to most deserving person. When you hire that person did you hire her / him because they had H4EAD? No you hired because she/he was the best among the applicants. This is what interview process does, identify the best person. Right? So why so much cry over this. If you are good you will get the job, if not even if you take H4 EAD away, still you will not get it. So instead of opposing H4 EAD, it is better to train yourself on skill sets which land you the job. 2. Same thing for US government, H4 EAD's is not taking away jobs. If you really want to help US citizens then make a rule - only US citizens apply and ask companies to follow. No one will hire EAD's end of story. 3. Now why is EAD given - Let me show you a scenario; Ronny comes to US, does his masters, gets a job. He is married and after he gets the job he invites his wife on H4 to come to US. I hope staying with your wife is not illegal for foreign immigrants in US. 4. US company want Ronny to keep working so THEY apply for his Green card. DHS and USCIS approves that petition (right). Which means USCIS now wants this person to one day become US citizen. 5. Due to country cap, he has to wait 15 years for his Green Card to come, meanwhile he gets two kids born here in US. I hope it is legal to have kids after marriage in US? 6. Now he is the sole earning member of the family, who is providing for all 4 people livelihood, paying taxes and contributing to american economy. 7. His wife cant work as H4 visa holders cant work, even if she is an ace computer programmer, or a financial analyst. 8. In due course of time Obama comes in and gives his wife a right to earn for herself, contribute to US economy and help her husband bring up their family. 9. Is this WRONG? 10. If you guys or present government is so hell bent in making us tough here, why not cancel all H1Bs and we all go home. That is the best thing for us. But you know what - You cant do that - So government makes a plan to trouble them and get votes from people who dont understand politics. 11. If you guys seriously think H1B and H4 EAD holders are hindrance for your jobs, then something is not right. We are not the hindrance, you yourself are the hindrance. Think this overREPORT COMMENTS

Please stop H4-EAD. If H4-EAD holders are "high skilled", they can go through well defined process of getting their own H1B. H4-EADs are just flooding IT industry and depressing wages. Employers are willing to hire them not because of their "skills", but because they are ready to work for low wages and there is no paperwork on employer's part. I have seen it at my workplace. Low skilled H4-EADs are replacing genuinely skilled citizens and H1Bs. Also, please don't claim that you are entitled for H4-EAD just because you pay taxes and invest in USA. You are not doing social service with that. You are getting benefits (schools, parks, roads etc) for those taxes. You won't have to pay those taxes if you go back. So stop portraying your taxes as your donation. As for investment in USA, you are investing for returns. I am sure you will have investments at home country just because returns there are higher. So, again, stop portraying your investments in USA as donations to USA. I am not against H1B. That program has a purpose and congress approved cap. But if you want H4-EAD, it should share the cap with H1B. No more than 65k (or whatever current congress approved cap is) H1B + H4-EAD. Stop H4-EAD.REPORT COMMENTS

Don 't revoke H4 EAD. I have my Bachelors in Engineering and MBA from reputed Indian school. I was working in a leading global bank in India. I came here to US , because of my H4 i was not able to work. Have my Masters in Stem from one of elite school in US. I switched to F1 , got internship at Fortune 500 company. I switch to H4 EAD because of the flexibility . I am currently working in a Fortune 500 company. Not everyone is abusing the system. There are people with genuine qualification and skill. Revoking H4 ead means all the bright , high skilled immigrants are going to other countries were spouses can work. My husband has been in US for more than 15 years he came here for school, and still we are stuck in green card backlog. We both have spend American dollars on our education from top university. Consider the case of high skilled immigrants . Dont revoke this because people trying to abuse. There are quite a good number number of population with STEM, doctor. Because of my income we are able to invest in US. So revoking H4 ead would reducing the buying power, which is directly proportional to growing economy. Only 1,00,000 people are working in H4 ead. There are several openings in my company and still they are on short of finding skilled resources. Whom ever SAVE jobs is REPRESENTING LOST THEIR JOB ONLY BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE SKILL OR QUALIFICATION. THERE ARE UMPTEEN NUMBER OF JOB IN THE FIELD OF TECHNOLOGY. Every person on H1B pays taxes and follows the rule of law, to a point where sometimes it is to their detriment. H4 EAD comes as a relief to their partners and helps emotionally, financially and culturally. Green Card backlog is a legal procedure to limit a billion Indian people moving here in USA. The reason for the back log is to uniformly distribute the citizen status and hence promote diversity. Additionally, saving american life style and improving their quality of living is important. Improving Alien/Non-immigrant's life is not even in a to do wait list! H4 EADs are granted to spouses who are caught up in the green card back logs.They have approved labor and I140 its just a matter of time that they get their Green cards and US citizenship. H4 EAD is unconstitutional and illegal. For H1B there is a vetting process and 90 days of advertisement period to ensure American citizen participation. Whereas for H4 work visa nothing. H1B visa itself is a non-immigrant visa and the comments here in the post, where they want their spouse to work, to buy house and have kids, is rediculous. The best way to stop this nonsense is to send an email to your local Congress man or woman asking whether they support the notion to revoke the H4 EAD or not. If they don’t support this notion make sure you vote against them in the coming mid-term elections. Most of these H4 holders are working for corrupt Indian IT companies (like Wipro, Infosys and TCS) who are exploiting American citizen’s jobs and life. Every time I here from these visa beneficiaries how H4 visas and H1B is helping American economy, I have a question why don’t you go back help your own country’s economy. If US is going to revoke it, it will be a very big step BACKWARDS! The EAD is only a permit to work. It does not guarantee a job. And most of the time, H4EAD holders at least have a Bachelor degree from top universities out side of US. They are here only to be with there family! How could a government so merciless to take away people’s right like this? Also, as shown in recent job data, unemployment rate is historically low. H4 EAD is for the future US Citizens and this is bought as the Green Card application is taking a long time. Next, we respect american candidates to have the first preference and in that case, the system should be fixed in H4-EAD or H1-B Visa to remove lottery and please fix a system like a criteria or number of points a candidate has to acquire to be eligible. Please put those rules like the degree, skill, experience etc., or ask the candidates to write an academic test and get qualified for the VISA. This can be implemented for the new applications so that the candidates would plan accordingly and for the old applications it would be great not to revoke as they have setup their family, bought properties here which would be a big hassle for them with this change. Yes genuine candidates can apply via H1B but over last few years H1B lottery is denying opportunities to genuine candidates. H4 EAD is scam. Resume of spouse are copied from husband with fake references to get into IT industry. They have brought down the market rate and taking away US citizens college grad jobs which is ridiculously unfair for kids coming out of college with college loans and not finding jobs. Stop this greed and look into the kids futures and not some cheap labor !! As an Indian have take several interviews, the voice over the phone is different and the level of answering is different and when called for a personal interview, they cannot answer basic question. Not every time they will get caught. Currently, I have my contract rate that is less because of the H4EAD which is a second income and are taking away my first income. H4EAD is one of the most abused program. People lie and use their cultural influence to get their spouses at the same work place or at their buddies place. So, here how this works. They scratch each other back. I have seen jobs taken by these H1B and H4 can be easy replaced by our fresh college graduates or with few years of experience. These people are utter lair as well. They fabricate resumes, fake interviews and provide support over the phone. Also, they bribe hiring manager (of course he or she is one of their own) to get them hired and pay under the table. Once, they are hired, goal is to get few certifications at the company’s cost to hide their real world experience. i urge our president and congress to stop this UTTER NONSENSE PROGRAM. Ok, I agree that talented skilled labor doesn’t need to worry about visa categories and can as well regularly apply H1b, and as some suggest that we are utmost welcomed to apply and challenge our skills on H1B. If that is the case, the same rule doesn’t apply to citizens? If they are really talented, they should not be bothered about some immigrant spouses eating their jobs. They can always prove their skill and talent. Eveyone has an equal right to learn, improve and prove their skills. Then why fight over a visa category? How does a visa category become a hinderance to hire a truly skilled or talented american? It should not if they are really better than those immigrants. No company, business or employer offers a job just because they come in for a low pay. Job must be done too., and those who have got brains. Buckle up, compete and prove. Don’t cry upon increasing competition. There are many citizen / American centric or jobs benefiting Americans which demand security clearances and citizenship, making these H4 spouses not even eligilbe to apply for those. EAD is hardly a dot of sand in a room which is insignificant when compared to number of opportunities in a highly competitive world market like USA. If a country is allowing people to stay it should allow people to work unless they are visitors. Working is basic right and basic need in par with food for a human on this earth. They are zillion ways to strive for employment and prove your skills., sulking and sobbing over increasing competition is not one. No business will ever invest in unskilled labor just because they take low wages. If they don’t perform the job they are out by next morning. Therefore, EAD shouldn’t be even a head breaking issue. Pls do not revoke the H4 ead. Please note that this EAD card is given only to approved i140 holders or in other words, future citizens. I have personally applied to atleast 100 jobs before getting selected. Most of them prefered citizens over GC/ead holders and it is correct to give first preference to US citizens. However, don't let Xenophobia cloud our judgement and make us inhuman. It takes atleast 8-10 years for spouses to get an h4EAD, and it is a band-aid solution at best insread of granting them citizenship or a GC. The EB3, EB2 queues are upto 70 years long for i140 applicants. There are definitely bad fish in the pond who lie, fake experience to get jobs and I hate them. Then there are also bully and Xenophobic citizens. But there are so many good hearted, professional, humane individuals on both sides.
