Dear Congress, As a father of 4 whom willingly pays child support I see the system abused every day but not so much by my ex's. I feel the system needs to be overhauled and if you want to contact me feel free. I believe that the entire assignment of support and parental rights is WAY WAY overdue. In most cases both parents are more than capable of caring for their children without child support and I feel the standing order should be 50/50 custody and no support. Each parent should be responsible for the financial support of their child in either home and if one parent can support their child then have their child go live with the other parent. I think to often we try to throw money at problems that aren't ours to throw it at. And paying for someone else to care for a child you had with them is exactly that. A lot of times the money goes unspent on the child but rather the collecting parent. They often say, "Well I feed your child, I clothe your child", but what they neglect to say is that they do it from the good will and donated food baskets. Then they take that money and spend it on whatever. They're a parent, they should be able to provide. And if they come up short on school supplies or school clothes the other parent should put forth that cash. In the instance where the other parent doesn't, can't or won't well that's just too bad. There are way to many resources out there for parents, plenty enough to not need child support any longer. I support repealing child support in leu of a 50/50 standing parenting plan with equal shares of the expenses covered by each parent. -

Get rid of crooked family law courts, judges, and lawyers. The family law courts are not monitored by any superior court and therefore do as they please even if it's not constitutional. Sometimes I can't believe this is happening in America. We might as well be living in a communist country the way child support is ran. Don't get me wrong the CSE is effective on actual deadbeat dads, but when you throw an innocent dad in jail because he couldn't afford child support. You've crossed the line! CSE needs to be either monitored or they need to just get rid of that department all together because the truth is they hurt more families than they do good! Family law courts are also a joke and because attorneys and judges make a killing on divorces they can change laws as they please to benefit them or case of interest. The more asset a person has the more the attorneys dig to get those assets. It's one of the first questions they ask whine you go in for a divorce. Don't believe me check out the divorce Corp documentary. It's sickening!REPORT COMMENTS

I didn't realize I owed over $500 in child support. When I found out, I went to pay but child support said I needed to send a check or pay through a 3rd party Web site. Shortly after I find out child support contacted my bank and froze my account. Then I called child support back to tell them I payed through the Web site they suggested and they said it would take 7 business days to register. So they won't contact my bank to Unfreeze my account. Now I have to borrow money from others to buy food, gas, and pay bills all because child support decided to contact my bank and freeze my account. I understand what others might think. That I'm just trying to get off and not pay child support but that couldn't be further from the truth. I bought my children new beds, clothes, toys, food while still paying child support. What happened was I changed jobs and in the process the child support collected. I was planning to use the taxes for arrears owed but wasn't given the chance. It's time consuming and costly to have to go to 3rd party websites/help lines for assistance when it comes to dealing with child support. This system is so flawed. Child supports actions in freezing my account has put my job at risk. I wasn't given any notice until I tried to buy gas and was declined. When I First started paying child support I received a statement each month. I hadn't received anything in 2 months until today. Which is after the fact.REPORT COMMENTS

I am writing this on behalf of my brother who lives in PA. He and his wife had been together for 10 years and had two children. After one year of marriage, she left him. She is receiving cash assistance, food stamps, rental assistance and works part-time but yet and still feels it is necessary to ensure my brother has nothing. She continues to take him to court for child support. After child support deduction of $800 a month, he lives on $100 a week. How is he supposed to survive on this? When it comes to determining income and debt, all government assistance should be counted as income. He pays taxes, so technically he is being paying her twice, i.e., rental assistance, food stamps. It is unfair to the father of the children who wants to see his children and take care of them. The child support system is biased and it needs to be correctedREPORT COMMENTS

I have very little support left to pay fought in court for visitation for my son for 12 yrs and after that his mother tried to let a man who isn't even in his life anymore adopt him so I fought that too.I am still with out a title to my care even tho my child support is paid on time every month and is almost paid off and he is grown and in the army.I never got to be in my sons life because his mother would not let me and did not respect every decision to allow me visitation I've spent over$100,000 fighting to see my son and he is still damaged from all the lies his mother told him thank god we finally talk. Now child support s blocking me going back to school something I just could not manage while in a custody battle. Now it's over and they are still treating me as a deadbeat and unwilling father when I have always tried to see and support my son.I'm not here to complain about money or supporting my child I just want to be able to go to school and support my son and family with out being blocked at every turn by support.Made to feel like a low life and heartless worthless father when I fought so hard to be a good one.The fact of the matter is you have turned support in to a weapon for women there is nothing ok about it.There's no excuse for not supporting a child I understand that but the burden should not only fall on one party when half the time it's the mother who knows she can control a man with the law.REPORT COMMENTS

I wrote earlier about the support guidelines are unfair for the father but the truth of the matters is I don't care about the money I'll pay but I feel that the courts should not always just give primary custody to the mother. My child has a half brother Iam remarried for 8 yrs that wants to see his sister I feel if ur a good father and are loving and caring and would do anything for them that courts should see that and it should be 50/50 custiody.I can't sleep at night and have knot in my stomach everyday cause Iam trying to get more custiody of my childREPORT COMMENTS

I'm a foster kid when i was 17 i had sex with a women i didn't love.I always strapped up and was sure i did with her. But when she said she was having a baby i jumped in head first. I quess i really just wanted something to love. It's not easy growing up in foster care. I supported me and her with drug money. Then when i found ot she was cheating i left her. I stopped selling drugs got a job and made life about me and my daughter.I never got a letter from the courts so i had know idea about child -support. She gave the courts my old address and since i didn't go to court the order child -support. I picked up my daughter from the baby sitter. And when we got home i was sitting at the table.I opened up my check and half was missing.I called my daughter mother and asked what was going on.She said i wasn't going to leave her out in world struggling.I packed up my daughter and dropped her off with her mother.I lost my apartment ,my car and my daughter. I gave up and went back to the streets.I ended up doing five years in the pen. When i came home with a clear head ready to give in started working. Me and my daughter started a new life.I struggled and lived in a rented room. But being with her every weekend made it worth it.Then two years into our new life her mother said she was moving to Texas from Virginia. She said you can fly her down for the summer. Something i could not afford,So i just gave up. I haven't had any other children ,child support damaged me.Now that my daughter is grown im still paying back the the money from being locked up.My mother and father never took care of me.But i still suffer and live in fear of going back to jail if i don't pay.REPORT COMMENTS

I am a commission employee whose income varies month to month and year to year. I am required to pay $1425/mo for my 3 children. Even prior to being ordered by the court to pay, I voluntarily payed $1000/mo, which was usually a struggle. Since then, my ex (who quit a 55k/yr job, with 3 kids at home to go back to school) has filed for aid. When that happens, the county automatically sues the non-custodial parent for child support. They decided that since she has no income, I have to pay the outrageous 1425/mo. Many months, I can't afford it and now have arrears that I also can't afford. Why is it ok for the custodial parent to put the entire financial burden on the other parent? Adults with children go back to college all the time without sacrificing their income to do so. If I decided I wanted to do the same thing, I'd be arrested for failure to pay child support. I have a child with my current wife and most months, we can barely pay our own bills. Its absolutely unfair for the parents out there that work hard and try to do the right thing by their children. Its an undue hardship, its depressing and it needs to change.REPORT COMMENTS

I am mother of 3 wonderful child (2 boys & 1 girl) ages 20, 16, & 14. I left my exhusband after 11 long years of mental, physical & emotional abuse and I took our children with me. During the divorce proceedings with our attorneys it was in agreement that I would get full custody of our oldest son and we would have joint custody of the other 2 children. What I nor did either one of our attorneys know that my exhusband went applied for State benefits which included food stamps, State Medicaid for the children stating they did not have medical insurance which I have carried on 3 of children from the day they were born and he received cash benefits as well because he lied to DHS stating he had full custody of the children and he did not know where to locate me. After the divorce was final I received a summons to child support court because he applied and received cash benefits. Therefore the court says I owe the State money for the benefits my exhusband received which was close to $9,000 plus pay current child support on the 2 children we have joint custody of which is $800 per month for him to live. The children do not see any of this money because he spends it on his drug habit. The child support court system is corrupt and needs to be changed.REPORT COMMENTS
