Why should fathers be the only ones responsible for supporting their children? These women were there when the children were being conceived, so they can just as well work to support them. Why should they sit on welfare roles when they're perfectly capable of working?! I worked full time while my children went to school. This country needs to stop making excuses and exceptions and instead start having expectations that all able-bodied will work for a pay check, not for a handout! -

Child support cases hand out money too quickly and do not take into consideration the details of each situation. No one should have to suffer losing their child while starving from egregious entitlements. There are no checks and balances in place to make sure that the other parent is seeking employment. Additionally, often the responsible party, who is trying to save money for the children's future and for college, is the parent who must pay out WAY too much. Both genders should be treated equally and while some money must be paid, there must be limits and caps.REPORT COMMENTS

my daughter is currently 6 yrs old. I've paid support on her since she was 9 months old (when her mother and I split) every couple of years my support goes up due to my consistent pay in salary, therefore my daughters mother gets more and more of my money, causing my wife and son to suffer. since my daughters mother is getting support from me, she refuses to work more than 16-20 hours a month causing the amount of support I pay to go up even more. how could anyone see this as fair, or something that makes sense? i'm completely ok with paying support, every man should be. but no man should be expected to be ok with being taken advantage of.REPORT COMMENTS

There needs to be a system to enforce how the child support money is spent. I'm tired of the ex making purchases such as a mailbox, wooden gate, trailer etc. Simply because my child does not see any of it. He still dresses like a bum and his hygiene is sickening. We should receive invoices on how they spend the CS money. Plus! It should be mandatory for both parties to claim the money at the end of the year.REPORT COMMENTS

I think it's unfair not to see where my money is going and to be forced to pay for medical dental and vision from my work and I can't even choose my own carrier without all the hassle why do I have to show how much I make in order for me to get cheaper coverage, all in all my ex's husband doesn't take care of my kids with there clothes hair, shoes dental , school supplies these still come from my pocket where is my money going! Child support takes advantage of the parent who provides they punish us but the parent who can stay on food stamps and still get paid and I can't claim my child on my taxes why not I'm supporting him.REPORT COMMENTS

I pay for my son that I only see every other weekend. He never has new haircuts, clothes, etc. where is my hard earned money for my son going!!! This is extremely unjust and unfair, action needs to be taken immediately. My child mother has no bills for she has a fiancƩe that makes a lot of money. She has no bills but gets 600$ a month from me! How is this fair?? Someone please tell me why I get to pay for 70% of Daycare that I didn't even choose!? A parent shouldnt be able to not work get food stamps and collect child support if one parent pays both parents should work and pay.My ex was takin to court in 2013 he came to court with no proof of income or W2's my so called dhr worker told me before court he would be paying a little over $400 a month for a 17 year old that he had not supported what so ever since she was 13 but when he went back by his self with no proof of income they decided to call his boss who he was very close to and take the boss's word over the phone what my ex made when they called me back it went from a little over $400 to $ 240 a month for a 17 year old in high school he was court ordered to make first payment in nov 2013 i received my first payment in may of 2014 because i had to keep on at my worker he only had to pay child support for one year and six months because she turned 19 in oct 2015 but funny thing she doesnt graduate til may 2016 so not only did dhr make life better for him to support someone elses kids that are not his from the time she was 13 to almost 17 and i had to do both our parts but i have to take care of the most expensive school year for her which is her senior year just because she turned 19 in oct just because she turned 19 shouldn't excuse him from financially helpin pay for her most important year if i just decided to not help because she turned 19 she wouldn't graduate and that's our job as parents to get them through high school.Please someone put a stop to DHR being able to ruin kids lives and making it harder on the parent who is there doing there partREPORT COMMENTS

WE need your help. My husband was recently taken to court for more child support. We were paying $300 per month and also all the medical insurance for the 2 kids (13&14 yr old) PLUS the ex wifes medical insurnace since my husband works for the state of mn he has to cover her also unitl her youngest child is 18 ( which isnt his kid and he is only 8). We have the kids 14 hours less per month than she does but because they dont spend 2 sunday nights with us (we take them back at 5pm) Our parenting time is 44% of the time. Because the state guidline says we have to have 45.1% or more we now have to pay her $700 MORE per month so she get $700 for an additional 14 hours more than us. She is very capable of doing more but why she has it so good? Our attorney told me there is " something on the table in August" pardon my dumbness but he said the Attorney Assoc is trying to push to pass the new guidlines as this happens a lot and it isnt fair. The new guidlines would have different levels...for example: He said the levels will be 0-20%,21-40%..again just an example. I need your help in making sure this makes it to the table. We need a reform that is fair to all parties! We get punished for improving ourselves while the other sits back and collects....why not...its free~ UGH!!!!REPORT COMMENTS

My story is long. But the nation needs to know that where I live, fathers that work hard have NO rights and if you're a rich; local doctor, you can get away with rape. I'm reaching out to anyone that can help and listen. My husband has joint custody of his 2 boys and has for over 5 years (and for almost a year back in 2009, he had temporary full custody because his ex wife had supervised visits with the boys per DHR order). We've been married almost 6 years now and he took in my 2 girls as his own. The jealous ex wife has put us through pure HELL. I have a petition on causes.com that tells our story. Even though he provides them with medical, dental, etc., they're garnishing his pay for more than 500$ a month. They also took his tax return. The original decree was he pay 100$ monthly to her that started in 2007. Do the math. They didn't count any of it! This garnishment started in November 2015. It forced us into bankruptcy; we had to discontinue our cable, cell phones, and much more. We have the boys every other week meaning we have them just as much as she does! We are dealing with Talladega county AL; a backwoods, dated court system. The judge didn't care that 4 children will suffer greatly for this. The ex-wife gets the FULL amount of food stamps each month and she doesn't even have the boys full time! My husband makes 20$ an hour and his weekly pay check is 180-250$. Our bankruptcy cost is 200$ a week for the next 4 years because the bankruptcy judge wanted us to keep our trucks. Did I mention she's had 4 child abuse cases against her, was arrested for domestic violence, and had supervised visit with the boys? Yet, this system still makes my husband pay for her mistakes! She was awarded 5500$ from my husband because they had a trailer together long ago. She was gonna have it repossed, so he kept it and made the payment. She claimed he refused to give it to her even though both names were on the trailer !! We have a new court date tomorrow in a different county, where the original divorce took place. Different judge involved as well. If they don't help us, we don't know what we will do. Hard working fathers have NO rights here!REPORT COMMENTS

I live in Sweden but pay child support in Utah. The system needs to change to a base need system for the children, not based on the amount the parents make at the time of the divorce. Circumstances change sometimes, and generally not for the best. I was laid off after my divorce. I was making good money at the time so the large 1550 a month cs payment was not too much of a burden. However, when I lost my job, I could not find work. I applied for an adjustment, but the courts in Utah threw it out, because I did not serve her properly, even though she admitted that she recieved it and her dad signed for it. I married a Swedish woman shortly before my layoff. When I could find work for 6 months (200 job applications) and I had no cobra nor anyway to afford my insulin for my diabetes, we had to move here to Sweden. The states refuse to help if you make the type of money I did, because they base help off of last years tax returns. I finally found work in Sweden (difficult if you do not speak fluent Swedish) in 2015. I again applied for an adjustment through Utah ORS. They refused saying because I lived in a non-reciprical country, I would have to go through her and the courts. I tried to work it out so that both parties were able to live with the amounts and she refused the amounts, even though they were more than the Swedish required child support amounts. I offered extra even though it made things extremely tight for me financially. She refused and sued me for 25.000 USD and won, even with all of the evidence of my move not being due to me avoiding cs. Now she has filed contempt charges against me even though I pay what I can everymonth. I come back to the states for the contempt hearing next month and I am afraid that I wont be able to come back to my Wife here or my hard earned job. The laws need to take into consideration the actual evidence. State to state does not work. People shop for better, more favorable juristictions, and since she had family in Utah and I was working in Texas, she knew she would get a better settlement in Utah and moved there. It should be a federally duled system to avoid this. Utah is very one sided towards women, especially if they are Mormon. The child support should be based off a basic childs needs average in the country. Not based on the income of the parents. If a circumstance like mine happens, most fathers or providers in this situation end up living in their cars like I almost did. If you cant afford CS, how do you hire an attorney? The system is not fair for men and some women. I understand why they are the way they are in the past, but this is an equal society now and divorce must be split 50750 as well.REPORT COMMENTS

I've had a child who I rarely see and when I do its at the mothers place. Which is hard to enjoy the time with my son cause she is on the boarder of verbal abusive. It has gotten so bad that I'm now on zoloft to get through the day. It's not only her negativity that weighs on me but not being able to see my boy and how I'm ever going to make it out on my own. I had to move back home with my parents and still living paycheck to paycheck AT BEST. While the mother has new furniture new suv. My family will and capable to baby sit but she chooses not to We have the option to be on all kids but sense its on the father to pay for ALL of the health cost, i must pay 150 for health insurance that isn't as good as All kidsREPORT COMMENTS

There are many couples, for one reason or another, whose marriage does not work out. However, when there are children in the involved, that tends to make things more challenging for all parties to deal with. In my current situation, a divorce is transpiring. The woman that I married, decided after nearly 10 years, that she didn't want to be married anymore. She asked me to leave the house that we had established together, receives roughly from 20 to 25% of my income due to the child support, and my child still expects me to do some of the things that I was doing when I was still in the house. I have to stay with friends or family just to keep my head above water. I'm still paying credit card bills that have accumulated from the marriage, the lawyers are down my back asking for attorneys fees, and there's no federal or state legislation or assistance in place to help struggling, hard working, fathers, that makes an honest living, that I need have some extra assistance financially. My soon to be ex wife, makes roughly 3 times the amount of money that I make. I believe that the child support laws are extremely unfair and does not factor in the more than adequate amount of money that she makes or the financial strain that it puts me in. I don't mind doing for my child or doing my part as a father, but it's hard for me to survive and to provide for myself. Look, I didn't get married to get divorced. I happened to marry someone who no longer wanted to be married to me for whatever reason. The laws and the courts are in her favor... and she has taken full advantage of it... because she can. She also wants the life insurance if anything was to ever happen to me. So not only does she get paid when I'm alive, but she wants to get paid when I'm dead. She continues to want all the financial benefits of being a wife without actually being a wife. Marriages end, but fatherhood, expenses and life still goes on. Is there any help available? I am currently paying $1200 a month to support my 18yr old son (NY) to live with his aunt. He lived with me for all but 5yrs (I am in military) and HE decided he didn't want to move out of NY. The support magistrate awarded 17% of my pay and included my non-taxable housing and food allowance, which he didn't do only 3 yrs earlier when my ex-wife applied for welfare and the state took me to court on her behalf. Yes, I had one child living with me and was paying $500 for my daughter to live with the mother, all the while not receiving a cent from the mother. It's sad getting locked up over a civil matter, because I'm not in a position to pay my child-support. I recently lost a job and looking for a new job on a daily basis in order to pay my child support! They are my kids and I have no problem what's so ever providing for them, but sometimes things happen such as loosing a job or what ever. I'm currently on child support civil probation and if I don't produce money as if they would like, I will get locked up, and by me doing jail time my kids is really gonna suffer, the ones that I pay child support for and the ones that's living w me whom I don't have to pay child support for, want neither set of kids receive any kind of support from me by me being incarcerated and while I am incarcerated the state has to feed me and clothe me acting as if they don't care about wasting tax payers money. Locking someone up over not being able to give the type of money that the government wants us to pay is crazy, it's like being treated like a slave or a terrorist. I sometimes would like to move to another country, because the United States treats people who owe child support like fecal matter. Knowing that the laws that he been placed up against us isn't fair they still gets away with it after all those years. Locking me up over a civil matter isn't solving anything! I also feel as if we (the ones whose behind on child support) are slaves to society. The government has not came up with a logical idea that's fair on how to handle child support in a manerly way as of yet and probably never will, it's almost like Jesus being crusified. And I tell you this isn't a way to for a U.S. citizen to feel as if we don't belong here. It's almost as if the laws that's being made isn't being doubled checked and as if OUR government is saying "Owell." Things could continue to get worse as they already have but sooner or later something is gonna have to give cause individuals such as myself is getting tired very tired!!!REPORT COMMENTS

Yet if I don't I will gave a warrant for my arrest ..... . this awful of the state of Alabama I font believe I am the only man this has happened to in this state I feel if there is enough of a lawsuit should be filed against the state of Alabama for lacking to gain evidence before their actions are taking in both of my case I worked two jobs owned my own home and had cars lost the car s lost the house lost the kids so I get four days a month with my children and have to constantly be reminded by their mothers they are in control and abuse this privilege my second wife abuses this more than the first . the first x wife apoigizes but won't take me off papers nor am I allowed to raise my children with out them calling their flavor of the month daddy this is doing far more damage to my children than I can repair in my four days a month.... If Thiers is anything I can do or any attorneys can take my case probono I have the evidence but I don't have thousand s of dollars because I do pay cs and I take care of my children I get them as much as I can but I should not be subjected to thus inhuman torture ....REPORT COMMENTS

As a woman, if I CHOOSE to have a baby.. then I alone chose to take the responsibility of another's life into my own hands. I'd love to have a partner that wants to be in the children's lives and contribute to their well being. If not, good riddance! I don't need hate money from someone who doesn't want to support that child. And I damn sure wouldn't use child support to negotiate a relationship with the man's own children. My boys are over 18 yrs old I owe back support I pay 1000 a month for back support only and I am still threatened to Lose my licence often which cost me 15 per letter d.m.v sends and they ALWAYS send 2 cpl days apart. Paying the 1000 a month for over 18 yr old kids Toward back support only I am still having bank accounts levied. 6 times in last 7 months. This is totally unfair designed for failure.
