I feel like I'm drowning in shallow waters! There are a lot of stereotypes out there about African American men. Just to name a few...... We don't have jobs and play video games all day long, and we will never amount to anything because of the inability to progress due to the systematic lack of drive of the generations that proceed us and my favorite is we have multiple children that we don't pay for! With that said I've done everything in my power to reverse this generational misfortune! I'm employed at a very great job where I'm a foreman and professional. I'm working everyday to support the future of my kids and I ! (with no video games involved) I have 2 little boys of my own and my girlfriend has one that I see as my own as well! Her sons father while paying "very little" (he does pay) chooses to have no relationship whatsoever with his son! So I've made it my personal responsibility to see to it that this young man along with my own becomes great men in their future families and communities! I do this while paying my ex wife (she's white which doesnt men anything I just want you to know all the facts) a very large portion of my paycheck to be the custodial parent of my own 2! Paying this large amount is leading to my destruction! My finances are in the dumps more significantly I'm going to lose my home with nowhere to go. All this is happening to me while my ex wife is able to live comfortably. She lives comfortable by collecting support from me, collecting assistance from the government and working part-time where she can be off during the summers. She is licensed in a field that would allow her to make more money yet she doesn't utilize it because of all the assistance. She can basically live free with a lil to spare. All the while I struggle! The government really needs to look into these things because they're losing out just as much as us men by paying "able women" to sit at home and live off others. There are a lot men out here desperately trying to be fathers and being held up by finances that make them concentrate more on not being homeless than being a dad! To me child support is*****backwards! -

On paper i make good money but im in a union so i basically make less than half of my monthly. My ex works but wants to put our child through private schools so basically i will be paying 1000 dollars when i only bring home 3000 after taxes. I also live in hawaii where renting a studio is north of 1500 a month not including utilities and a car payment to keep me going to work and also picking up my child to spend time together. I cant get low income housing cause i make a lot of money on paper. I dont want to leave the state because i want to be with my child. The system is flawed and only makes it harder to live. Ending my life seems to be an easy way out because suffering through this is horrible. I stress every day. She was the one that ended our relationship. I wanted to work things out. I did not cheat and i was paying the bills. Why am i the one that has to suffer cause she wanted to end things?REPORT COMMENTS

Politicians talk about family values. If you have more incentives to married people maybe there would not be so many men paying child support. Also why is it a mom does not have to work but no mater what a man has to pay child support. She gets all the governments help which also comes out of his taxes. You make it to easy for these women to sit and collect and do nothing. Mean while his current family suffers and is ripped apart. I know this first hand as I am a wife who's husband made a mistake along time ago. I have to work full time to support my family and his child while his baby mama does nothing but collect money from anywhere she can.REPORT COMMENTS

My husband pays $850 a month in child support to his ex girlfriend. We had a child who is one year old now, and he got a better job but a pay cut, went back to court and still didn't get lowered. She also gets all our income tax for back child support. Even though they had a signed agreement and he was paying her weekly and for anything the child needed she would tell him. We can afford anything for our baby girl. Meanwhile his ex lives with her parents, who are the ones raising the child and drives a brand new car. I divorced five years ago. My wife had ruined our marriage and our two small children's family and home. When we divorced we hired a single lawyer to represent our divorce. It was non contested. We were able to split everything and absolutely agreed that we were happy with the out come. Also we didn't want there to be any child support, simply because we were both very capable of providing for our children individually. She is very educated in the nursing field and I am a self-employed mechanic. However the judge here in Georgia said that it is a state law that the divorce decree state child support. We didn't want that. We wanted to provide individually and if there was a medical bill that insurance didn't pay we would split or anything else as such. So the judge put a minimum of $350. Per month down. Everything was going fine for over 4 years. She has had two husband's since me. She embezzed $51,000 out of the husband's heating and air business and caused him to nearly loose his house. He divorced her after 11 months of marriage. Before her divorce was over she was trying desperately to lure me back in! I told her that our relationship was like a crinkled up piece of paper, I could straighten it out....but it's not the piece of paper that I would want to write a beautiful poem on. So she found her fourth husband immediately, even before her third divorce was over. And yes I was the second husband. So as time went by she had chosen not to work these last 4 years. Well I had planned a cruise for me and the kids and man did that set off a fuse or maybe she just had this planned from the beginning. Next thing I know I'm hit with the family children support services by taking my license and saying that I owed her $36,000 and some odd dollars!!! Went to court and got drove into the ground like a tent stake. In those four years I had kept a journal. I had my kids more days then she did. I remained single so that I could give my children all of me and so that I could have all of them. I'm a very involved father. I have coached baseball for my son's team for the past 4 years. He is 9 and my girl is 12. I've been to everyone of her softball games and practices. Being said that the judge and the family children service guy totally judged me as a dead beat dad! The family children service guy talked to me so bad and insinuated that I was a druggie and needed tested. I'm 41 years old and I have never even lit a cigarette. I told him that I would pay for a hair follicle test and pee in a cup. The judge had put $350 in out decree but that day in court they set it for $900 per month! Plus $36,000 back pay. And of course she still chooses not to work. The $900 per month is totally hurting me financially. I have got bills to pay and have to be able to live as well. I do not mind giving her some money for our children at all. I'll do anything for my wonderful kids. They mean the world to me. However men need to be treated differently in theses situations. Not to long I go I had to be advised. When get to court, the judge read out loud what I had brought in for the year before (2013). The court along with child support in NC raised my child support dramatically and that wasn't even based on 40 hours a work week. They based it on overtime (an additional 40 hours). Now I'm sitting here struggling trying to make car payment, car insurance, putting food on the table, paying rent and utilities. How can men live while the woman is actually living off child support payments. I have been paying extra $50 for 10 years towards my arrears and it haven't budged a bit. I've been owing $8000 in arrears since 2006....smh. they tried to lock me up cause of their mistake. I came to court on the day the judge told me to...the DA said that I didn't have no court but I was smart enough to show then the yellow copy that had on there that particular date. They said my date was the month before after clearly seeing that the judge had signed off. There was a $1500 cash bond only and they was so mad when I got out of going to jail and got out of paying $1500...so they froze my account and took $1500 out of my account...now you tell me who got screwed. All this was in 2013. Since then my child support has been raised to almost $900.00 a month....NC child support laws need to be addressed accordinglyREPORT COMMENTS

This issue needs to be addressed by this government NOW!!! Not only is this child support system unfair and bias against men but it is also unconstitutional. So many men are suffering from this unequal, unjust and down right illegal system that it's pathetic. In most cases these unfair judgements cause financial ruin for men and in some extreme cases suicide. Too many times men are labeled deadbeat dads because they don't meet the expectations of the women they have a child or children with but what about women who use the child support checks as a reason to not get a job or better yet the ones who always threaten to go back to court for more money. The child support system already extort the men then they allow these women to use it to bring further scrutiny without any accountability for the women. How can two people create a child but only one person be responsible financially for caring for that child? This government needs to stop the corruption of this child support system that hides behind the excuse of having the child's best interest and using the children, like many of the women as cash cows. We men are asking the government, congress, the supreme court anybody to step up and reform these child support laws so that there are equal financial responsibilities and obligations for both the custodial and non-custodial parent. It's time to put an end to the scrutiny and indeed allow us the opportunity to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.REPORT COMMENTS

JOIN FREE: Federal Class Action for U.S. Child Custody Victims - Friends, I just joined CAPRA as one of the lead plaintiffs in an upcoming landmark federal class action lawsuit against all 50 States and the Federal Government, because I qualify as: (1) a biological parent whose child custody was unconstitutionally removed without due process; and, (2) I have been directly impacted by that during the last four years, i.e., within the statute of limitations. This class action is on behalf of *both* types of "family court" -- for wrongful victims of divorce-and-similar-with-kids *and* for wrongful victims of child protection services -- and includes suing on behalf of ANY parent affected by either "family court" type. It's totally free to join, and the federal court relief being demanded includes the full restoral of my child custody rights under law, plus a nice share of the large amount in civil damages expected. Check it out! Much like the wife from Arlington, TN, my husband is being raped by his ex-wife with the child support laws in Tennessee. He has one child with her, who is 19,and has paid close to $90,000 to her over the course of her life. Now, she is back asking for interest for payments that were missed when he was on his death bed. In addition to that, she has him in court every other month and the modification of income is always a problem. The courts have supported. Secondly, he has a 15 year old whose mother is always threatening to take him to court for an increase as well because he has gotten married. It's obvious, the courts allow this foolishness...I am going to write a letter a day to someone in Congress and in the House of Representatives until this foolishness stops. Then, she does not want to provide health insurance for their children, as they both have good jobs. Maximus and the laws of Tennessee are a shame and something needs to be done. There is no accountability for the money that they are demanding from fathers. As both live better than we do. My husband's check is almost 200.00 after working two weeks before getting ill. I have seen checks come in with 0.00 as a result of these laws. Then, every other week, there is a notice of delinquency that comes from the Child Support Human Services office...This makes no sense. The laws need to be reviewed and re-written. In fact, I have seen men die owing hundreds of thousands of dollars. Whatever happened to their right for the pursuit of happiness? It's almost like they are being punished for having sperm.REPORT COMMENTS

I am a woman that went through a divorce myself and I receive child support for my child. I believe in fair and ethical judgments and treatment for both parents. I am married to someone that also has children and due to his greedy ex-spouse that has learned to work the TN Dept. of Human Services system, I have learned how corrupt the State of TN child support collection practices are. The person in Chattanooga that wrote "...the very people that are supposed to be looking out for the best interest of the children are using them as cash cows for themselves." is 100% correct. Maximus is totally corrupt and unethical. My husband has always paid child support on time and due to a loop hole in Maximus' policies (which was not even the governing body of his original child support plan), he may have to pay child support twice, even after proving with cancelled checks, bank statements and sworn testimony by both my husband and his ex that she received all child support payments. The policies are not only unethical, but they should be illegal. Innocent, trustworthy people that pay their child support in full and on time are being treated like criminals, unfairly fined, having tax liens and other penalties imposed on them, and there is nothing that can be done about it. How is that allowed to happen in the United States? I am disgusted with the TN child support practices that punish mothers and fathers that only want to do what's best for their children, and fully support any efforts to reform the practices. As a first step, Maximus should be fired from handling any collections, in any part of the country so that fair practices can be put in place for all parents. I am asking that an agency be hired to investigate child support collection practices in all states, and reform practices that are unethical and defy the very constitution that was developed to protect Americans against unfair penalties and practices.REPORT COMMENTS

I have been faithfully paying child support on my child who is now 18 since 1998. I have been treated poorly, often times like a dead beat by OJFS. When I was working a dead end job, I decided to go to trade school to better support my daughter and have a better life for myself. I was accused of trying to dodge child support. When my hours were cut at work, I was told to get a job. When I overpaid for 6 years I was told "the money had been spent" although it was their error. I get letters every few months showing me in arrears because one system bases my payments on a 52 week year, while another of their systems bases it on a 12 month year, therefore every month with 5 weeks generates a bogus arrearage letter. My wife is disabled, but that is not considered in my support order. My child's mother has another child, for whom she receives suppprt, and that is not considered. My child's mother makes over $15k more than me each year AND is married to a medical professional whose income i am uncertain of, but I still have to pay 76% of the child's expenses. My childs mother takes routine vacations out of the country, without the children of course. My name is NOT on the birth certificate and I cannot seem to get it put on. My child has been poisoned against me and cannot see or talk to me or my family without the mother getting more money from us. Another man was awarded visitation for MY child in 2006 without my prior concent or knowledge; I only foubd out after i started investigating my overpayments and pulled divorce documents. My child is not even living with the mother and I can't get anyone to call me back to get the money paid to the child opposed to the mother. The system is EXTREMELY flawed and biased against men. Not all of us are deadbeats.REPORT COMMENTS

This whole Divorce Corporation system in America is disgusting! Before experiencing it I never would have guessed at the bias minded judges or the blatant unfairness in every nook and corner of it. I had a wife who cheated and then quit her job to gain custody of our two children even though she worked graveyard and I was the 'primary caregiver' for years. Judges automatically send children to their mothers despite circumstances. I have lived with an incorrect income amount for years leading to over payment by $100 every month, no deviation allowed for the extra time I have with them (104 nights per year), and am held to paying 70% of any bill for medical or extracurricular activities. Recently I have been laid off and not allowed a modification because I may be back to work sometime. She won half my pension and all of her 401K because the judge thought she could use it to get on her feet. I find myself wondering if there is ANY part of this process that is not completely bias?REPORT COMMENTS
