I am on the board of the Galveston County Food Bank / Gleanings from the Harvest. The SSBG grant has been a wonderful thing and has allowed us to reach thousands, however the administration and delay at the start will result in many services being stopped before the full benefit can be realized

I have worked in disaster recovery since Hurricane Katrina, and know how long the recovery process really takes. These funds are a significant resource for families and individuals still waiting on safe housing, furniture, appliances, and other items needed to fully recover from Hurricane Ike. No additional funds are being requested - please extend these funds and help the Gulf Coast recover.

I know times are hard for everyone, but please don't deny the people who needed it the most the help they need. When Hurricane Ike hit my area I was one of the fortunate ones. I can afford Homeowners and Flood Insurance.

I have worked with hurricane victims for 5 years (since Rita). This money is fundamental to their being able to recover and get back to a life that is at all normal. Many of them are senior citizens and/or disabled, whose families cannot help them because they are recovering, too. The committee that disburses these funds has made it a priority to spend them with local businesses, so the money is also a boon to local businesses, many of whom have not completely returned to their pre-storm level of operation.

I understand that there was the typical bureaucratic delay in these funds finally reaching local non profits. As such, fairness demands an extension for these groups to help others recover. Do not forget this disaster!

If money has already been set aside for this program there is no reason not to grant an extension. As an elected official, do what is right for once!
