As a board member of the Gulf Coast Center I would like to take this opportunity to thank Congress for funding the recovery efforts in the Texas gulf coast. As a resident of the Brazoria County I know that the devastating impact of IKE still continues along the Texas Gulf Coast. Unfortunately, the delay in the block grant funding has made it impossible to spend the money Congress appropriated in the relatively short time allotted. We take very seriously our responsibility to spend these funds in a manner that provides meaningful and effective services to our community. Cooperation between agencies has been excellent and it would be a disservice to our communities to remove this irreplaceable source of funding that has finally begun to assist so many. Your consideration for continued funding of the block grants is greatly appreciated. -

As a member of case management in the area that received extensive damage of a direct result of Hurricane Ike, I can tell you first hand that there is still extensive work to be done, which means funding is still needed. Clients are just now realizing that there is help out there for them, therefore some needs are just now being addressed. Please don't stop the progress that is being made for our devastated counties in Southeast Texas.REPORT COMMENTS

Outside of our control, the implementation of these grant awards was delayed; and as such delaying the start-up of these critically needed services to our communities still struggling to recover from the devastation of Hurricane Ike. We are asking for a reasonable, no-cost extension; so as to fully serve our community and provide them the desperately needed community support necessary to recover. Again, we are not asking for more money, and nothing we are asking for will add to the federal deficit. Thank you...REPORT COMMENTS

Seven months is not sufficient to use the funding allocated through SSBG. Please extend the term of the grant. Using SSBG funds effectively requires pairing this funding with other sources which are still in the pipeline. In addition, funds which were awarded in September 09 based on successful applications were not avail to begin expending until Feb 10. This means we were asked to use the money in a much shortened cycle. Please help.REPORT COMMENTS
