I work at the University of Texas Medical Branch and I am also a social service provider in this area, providing community re-entry services to persons returning to Galveston from prison with a history of substance abuse. We are a recipient of Hurricane Ike Social Services Block Grant funding but we have not been able to spend our money yet due to legal red tape at the county level. Extending the time on this program would greatly help the recovery of this community. Thank you for your consideration.

I am a Case Worker for a Non Profit Organization actively working with families in Orange County, who has not recover from Hurricane Ike. These families had to cleaned and rebuild from 7-8 ft of water inside of their homes. Most of these families are on a fixed income, and some have lost their jobs due to the economy. Families are trying to recover on their weekly paycheck, and their monthly Social Security Income little by little. There is a great need to replace furniture and appliances, H-VAC Units, and also Construction our area. As we all have been dealing with the heat wave that is across the globe, it has been very hot here. So without the SSBG funds these families will be left behind, trying to maintain what they have and would not be able to live the lives they once had before Hurricane Ike hit our Gulf Coast. Please come to Jefferson, Hardin and Orange County to see the recovery effort that is still taking place here today. Thanks for your Support

Please extend the deadline, this area has been devastated and those served by these block grants are those who truly need these funds. Thanks in advance for you help in extending the deadline for the available and and very necessary funds. This money can go a long way to providing a much needed boost to our failing economy.

In addition, rampant abuse of the adjustment process by TWIA and other responders to the Hurricane has delayed rebuilding. This should be considered in determining whether the public purpose of the relief action has been achieved or needs to be extended.
