I was young when I wrote a bad check for $500 and shoplifted $375 worth of merchandise. I am different today, I graduated from college, and I am involved in my community. Yet, it has been extremely difficult to find employment because of the convictions on my record. I fully understand that I was wrong and I was punished rightfully so. I was incarcerated, completed my probation, and paid all the associated fines, and court costs. I have made every effort to move on. I just do not think it is fair for people like myself to be permanently handicapped by something that happened when we were young, that we were already punished for, and we would like to move on from. Please, in the interest of fairness pass this law and give people a chance to work and rebuild their lives. It serves no public purpose to keep people from employment who want to work and contribute to society. It does little to keep the community safe and encourages recidivism. Thank you!Apr 23rd, 2013Someone from Cottonwood, CA signed.

I was convicted of 3 felonies when I was 17 and 19. I did 9 years in prison. I am now 59 I have a B.S with 3 minors, Human Development, Criminal Justice and communions. My wife and I have raised 3 beautiful girls, ages, 26, 22 and 20. Here in Michigan we have a Republican Governor. I applied for a pardon and was denied with any explanation. I have sent several emails to our President asking for help but haven't gotten a reply. Please, I can't vote, I can't serve on any jury's. I can't hunt. I had a real problem finding a work but I kept politicking, (like President Kennedy use to say) and I'm now retired from corrections. I've been a very good citizen and haven't been in any back in the system for over 30 years, Again, I plead with you all, Help Me.REPORT COMMENTS

I had to do 5 yrs in prison for a clear case of self defense in which the so called victim didnt want to press charges...it should of been me pressing charges.nonetheless, that was over17 yrs ago and I am seeking a pardon and wish everyone in my similar circumstances will be able to relinquish they're rights, etc.REPORT COMMENTS

I have received my restorations of rights, completed all community service, paid restitution and been released from probation for 4 years. I was convicted of a non-barrier crime but since it was a felony I am almost exempt from anytype of employment. I deserve the right to have another chance, I was an oustanding employee before my conviction, I made a mistake, during my probation I was and have been an excellent employee.REPORT COMMENTS

People aren't born into equal circumstances in this country or this world. Society often victimizes people who are in poor position to defend themselves and it can be, or seem necessary to break some laws of the land in order to compete with the laws of survival. People who get into fights in self-defense or have stolen groceries to get by should not be damned the rest of their lives by alienating restrictions. When we push these harsh measures on people for years and years it is overkill and it prevents them from contributing as much as they can. We are in effect, then, cheating ourselves of the talents that many of our best citizens have laying dormant or rotting within themselves! Let's fix this problem nation wide.REPORT COMMENTS
