I have a misdemeanor larceny by employee charge that is 10 years old. I live in North Carolina and it is very hard for me to find a job in medical billing and coding. I feel that i'm going to school to pursue a better career and life for me and my kids for nothing. Whats the point of trying to get an education in an area that you're interested in amd you can't find a job for a mistake you made 10 years ago

I've been with a felony for shoplifting a dvd player in my book bag as a teen for 14 years. I've been denied over 200 jobs in that period. How are we ever expected to be contributing members of our society if were not even given a chance. Also I've had no arrests since this incident 14 years ago. This needs to change NOW.

My husband who is my sole, 24/7 caregiver, was fired from QVC on 9/11/13 due to a recent felony conviction, despite a 4yr excellent work record w/2 raises within 3 mos. & many supervisory commendations. Now this criminal record has not only cost his job we desperately depend on, but has now cost him future employment. A non-violent conviction with NO effect on his job yet he was fired for being a "liability." Virginia not only is a money machine, but carries laws set up to destroy average households/families. QVC prides itself on supporting it's employees in family/homelife challenges as well as professionally. Well, not this time. A hard working husband makes a huge mistake & pays his debt on house arrest by request ofthe judge in order to continue caring for me & work BUT QVC is heartless & pulls his livelihood out from under him becuz of an imaginary "liability." Many laws need changed about criminal records & employment in VA!!

I am a disabled American veteran that served in the United States Air Force honorably for her country and suffer a severe form of bipolar disorder, anorexia and Bulimia, obsessive compulsive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder and am getting the help that I need for it. In 2010 I was in in a manic phase of my bipolar disorder and I entered someone's home thinking I knew who lived there. I was truly sick and did not even know what my name was. I did not have any weapon on me nor did I intend to harm anyone. I tried on the clothes of the owner of the home and was awakened by the police and arrested for Burglary 1 which is a class A felony. I am not a career criminal in any way and it is very difficult for me to live with the stigma of being a class A felon when I already struggle with such a critical limiting disease. I am in the process of applying for a governor's pardon from the state of Oregon for my offense. I have obsessively feared limits and stigmas of being a Class A felon and according to my therapist that I worked with for three years he noted that it was a climactic moment in my escalating mania and complete surrender to my mental illness. My crime was clearly an expression of my mental illness and not of criminal intention. My therapist no ted that he could not see the logic or the benefit to society by condemning someone who is mentally ill with a criminal's identity in the same manner that we restrict the options of someone who is actually acting from a place of criminal intent. Please take this matter into consideration. I am currently working on getting a governors pardon and am awaiting an answer. I only hope and pray that this restoration and sealing process come to pass. I appreciate your time and thought. Thank you.

I was convicted of grand larceny from a relative15 yrs ago due to substance use. I am 15 yrs recovered, my civil rights have been retstored, I have a degree in human services and a substance abuse counseling certification, However, my felony conviction is hindering me from obtaining gainful employment. I should not have to continously pay for this crime that I have already paid for.

After completeion of sentencing, parole/ probation, and rehabilitation stipulations are met an American citizen should be allowed to have thier record sealed. it is unfair and unethical that one should be sentenced to a life sentence of discrimination in thier own country because of an ex-offense.

After 25 years since my conviction, I am a quiet, law abiding soccer mom that would like to return to work, but am unable to because of my "record". This Bill would be a god send.

I believe people deserve a second chance. Waiting 15 years in the state of Nc to be able for expungement of a possesion of stolen goods is like a lifetime. No I don't think committing a crime is ok but I think that people make mistakes and we learn from them.

Someone very close to me had misdemeanors 30 years ago. She has turned her life around, but still cannot get a good job due to the "have you ever been convicted of a crime" questions on all job applications these days. The sad thing is that she is trying to get jobs helping poor and homeless mentally ill people, but no one will hire her.
