Governor McDonnell of Va. is doing a great justice by the non violent convictions. Congress needs to step up to the plate as well. It seems like the illegal immigrants are better protected and have more rights. Granted I made a mistake 30 years ago, but not even a traffic ticket. Owned my own business and have been a contributor to society.

Unfortunately the courts and justice systems have turned into feeding troughs for attorney's. Reform is urgently required..

Didn't know at 27 yrs old pleading guilty to a misdemeanor was a lifelong conviction. I am 50 now and have been refused various promotions. When I looked into the matter I was shocked, what I learned about misdemeanors, that they're civil rights is gone. Charges pressed by the State. 1 time minor & mediocre mistake has over shadowed me for 22 years. I never had a repeated offense or had any infraction and yet, I am no better off than a convicted felon according to the law. I understand that one offense might possibly lead to two. But if a person has complied with all court requirements and has lead a productive life for 22 yrs... they should receive a pardon, a second chance a clean slate. Jesus forgives, so should the State.

My son at 19 yrs old, who had not been in trouble before, had a conviction of Drug possesion w intent..Because his girlfriend had drugs in her vehcile. He wanted to protect her.. so took the blame. Now 6 yrs later, he cant move on with his life, find a good job, cant get an apartment, and dosnt see a need to get an education when no one will hire because of this stupid thing he did..I think someone who has paid thier debt. Kept thier nose clean and wants a second chance should get one..As a Mom, it breaks my heart to my son floundering with no direction. I think it makes some of these indiviuals go back to thier criminal ways because they have no hope and no way to better themselves..
