You know they call jails and prisons institutions while claiming they are meant to rehabilitate the offender. Then claim the citizen is forever branded and outcast without any government benifit other than an employer tax cut lol. That's not rehabilitative it places constraints and limitations upon improvished miseducated or unfortunate Americans and it should no longer be tolorated by any American because any one of us can become the next accused!

I have a full and unconditional pardon from the Governor in 2010. The offense occurred 1980. I am a testimony of rehabilitation but I'm not allowed to be free, self-sufficent or rebuild from the damage that has been done because of collateral sanctions...I'm still captive just like when I was a victim of abuse (sexual and physical). So I petition please stop trying to break my spirit... GOD saved me for a reason and you need to let it be redeemed!

I find it absolutely unamerican, to give more rights to illeagal aliens, and let taxpayers foot the bill. My offense was non-violent, and is almost 10 years ago. I cant even find a job in this economy and am forced to lie on job applications, just to have a chance of employment. It is downright discrimination to be turned down for a job just because you say you have a criminal background. 99% of employers arent going to call and ask you to explain what happened, they just throw your application in the garbage. Thats a fact, i watched a manager go through applications, discarding those with a criminal backgrounds. This was a job that I lied on my application, and got hired. I busted my butt and proved myself at that job, working harder than anyone else, even got a commondation from the CEO. However, when I talked to the manager and came clean about my background, and informed him that I did my time, and paid my debt to society, and that its been almost 10 years since then without reoffending. You know what two words he said to me were? Your Fired. He said, "once a criminal, always a criminal." What the hell is wrong with America?

As a social worker, I cannot condon a government that willfully impeades the optimal social functioning of citizens that have paid their debt to society. It is difficult not to think that there are political and financial incentives to create an environment that encourages recidivism in order to cash in on the criminal justice system.

18 years after misd conviction and not KNOWINGLY and INTELLIGENTLY pleading I have been haunted. The courts are coercive. College educated and have never earned a reasonable income. I know it is bc of the prior conviction. Have not had ANY convictions since. It's not constitutional to be penalized for poor judgement in the past after having satisfied the courts/payed your debts to society. Fact is most of society do not care about us! Especially the gov...that is terribly sad.

Unfair and unjust to brand someone for the remainder of their life for a mistake one had made early in their life. It is completely wrong to be discriminated against time and time again by employers and creditors for one mistake made many years ago especially when there have been no criminal charges whatsoever since then! I am totally onboard with this.

Rehabilitated Americans who have lived as law abiding citizens after 10 years and received pardons should have more rights than illegal immigrants and get their records sealed so they may have a chance at a normal life again and get work and housing without discrimination for non violent, non drug related and non sexual in nature felonies or misdemeanors.

I am a first time offender. My charge was endangering the welfare of a child, 3rd degree. I have taken, parent classes, anger management classes, paid my fine, completed probation early, had my child returned to me because they believed it was something that would never happen again. I am gainfully employed, working on another degree, and still I am haunted by my past. I paid my debt to society, I have been rehabilitated, and my child has forgiven me. This incident happened almost 8 years ago and I still feel stuck. I want a new job and fear answering these questions because I will be judged and my application will be disregarded. I wanted to be a Nurse. What I do now I do not want to do for the rest of my life.

I too, was convicted of a misdemeanor in the state of Virginia over 7 years ago. And for the last 7 years, I have not been able to gain decent employment because of one mistake I made when I was 18. I did not hurt anyone, or even commit that terrible of a crime, but for the rest of my life I will have this stupid little misdemeanor hanging over my head when it comes to getting a career or any decent paying job. I do not want to be a waitress for the rest of my life. My dream was to work for an airline, but I would never get hired with a misdemeanor on my record, as they call it a violent crime in the workplace. Please change this! I am 27 years old and had to let my children's father raise them because he was more financially set than me, ultimately hurting my children. I will never have a stable life so long as I have to work fast food for the rest of my life!!

A lot of doors are closed to good people who may have made a mistake. I was convicted of a felony marijuana charge when I was 18 in 2007. I have been fortune to finish my graduate degree and find good employment. The drug laws in this country are detrimental to this society.

I just was denied an expungement of my larceny charge that was nolle process. I was innocent of the charge, plaintiff never showed for trial. the common wealth attorney said because I already had misdameanors, this charge should not be stricken from my record, according to her there is no manifest injustice. try getting a job today with a larceny charge.

The way the system is currently setup, for instance Nevada, only a very small amount of felons will get their right back. Yes they can get their record sealed, but if they want their gun right back, it has to apply for a pardon, only a very few applications get approved. Once your payed your debt, you are still being punnished by prospective employers, and landlords. It is difficult to rent an apartment in Las Vegas with a felon, they do background checks

You ever wonder why most felony offenders become multiple felony offenders...its because they feel and are left with no other viable options. Its like being told you have a terminal disease, slowly but surely most just give up because any life they could of had, or known the joy of creating, is gone...and its never coming back (or being expunged as the law clearly states). In any career or life a felony equals game over; unless you happen to be a medical doctor, whom are suppose to be held to a higher standard, except for when it comes to felony convictions. I find this fact highly prejudice, unconstitutional, and in violation of every civil liberty and right an American is suppose to have. Are your eyes open yet...?????
