I have 3 tattoos below the elbow. One tattoo is disqualifying me from all branches except the navy. I orginally wanted to join the Army or Marines but both said I was DQ. I don't have any tattoos that are offensive. They all mean something to me or reflect on my childhood. I hope this gets out there. -

I'm going to boot camp April 13th. I don't have tattoos but I feel they are a way of expressing myself and I feel it is unfair to take that which has been given for many years. Even the army is thinking about doing away with their policy.REPORT COMMENTS

I've been told that I can't enlist, due to one tattoo on my wrist. I scored near perfect on my ASVAB and pass all psysical standards with flying colors. I find this to be ludicrous.REPORT COMMENTS

I am currently being told that I cannot serve my country due to my visible tattoos. I have 4 tattoos that show while in shorts and a t-shirt. They are not offensive, gang-related, anti-American, or insulting to anyone. I come from a Marine family. My great uncle, 2nd cousin, father, and uncle all served in the U.S.M.C. I know that certain rules and protocol are in place for a reason, however, to deny someone the proveledge to serve this great country of ours simply because he/she has some tattoos that are bigger then the new protocol states is simply ludacris to me. I completely support the rule that while in full uniform, pants and long sleeved jacket, no tattoos should be visible on hands, neck, face, or head. Now, at a time when the world is in turmoil due to terrorist threats, and so many want to serve, I firmly believe that this should not be a reason to turn them away.REPORT COMMENTS

I've been wanting to enlist as a Marine every sinxe my second year of high school which was 6yrs ago! I got my last tattoo sometime that year before i figured what j wanted to do. None of which are against ethics, but simply because i have a lot! The fact that us tattooed applicants who are qualified want to volunteer our lives for our families and the country should be all that matters! I'm a security officer now in a very prestigious place and my tattoos show all the time and not once have they been question or have i been questioned on my work ethic! I live for this country so let me and all the others who live for the US show it! Let us serve.REPORT COMMENTS

Just because a Marine has a tattoo or several doesnt mean he can't lead or serve his countryREPORT COMMENTS
