It takes a strong, dedicate and passionate man to serve our country, Do not judge these men on tattoos they as well as there family are willing to make many sacrifices for our freedom. Why not consider all they have done for us as well as individual accomplishments they have achieved while serving our country. They at least deserve this. Banning one becasue of a tattoo after they have been on tours of duty is disrespectful and after all isn't respect what the marine core is all about ??REPORT COMMENTS

I tried to join the Marine Corps 3 years out of high school but had to drop weight which I did. 3 year down the line I finally had my chance and was turned down due to my tattoos. If this policy was changed, where people with sleeves could join I would on the drop of a dime. I'm a law enforcement officer now and still wouldn't hesitate to join.REPORT COMMENTS

If this policy were to change, I will happily enlist into the corp the following day. I fully agree with the no tattoos on face, neck, or hands, but as long as the sleeve tattoos and such show no vulgarity, racism, or anything degrading, they should be allowed. Then let the soldier and his work show whether or not he/she should be able for promotion. If they were grandfathered in, then that is exactly how it should be. Allow the same exact possibility for promotion and movement as a non-tattooed soldier would have, as well.REPORT COMMENTS

I believe anyone should be able to join the millitary in any circumstance with tattoos. Tattoo is known for art. Having a good clean record and civillian is all you need to join the millitary.REPORT COMMENTS

I got out of the Marines last year honorably. I am a OEF vet I loved my job. I want to enlist back in again to serve my county but because my tattoos I am considered unable. What does ink have to do with war fighting?REPORT COMMENTS

I am trying to get back in the Marine Corps now and I have 1 tattoo on my forearm that is stopping my enlistment. This tattoo policy is making the Corps lose GREAT Marines.REPORT COMMENTS

This is not fair. You can't turn down people who have tattoos who are willing to fight for our country ! Tattoo's is a way of expressing.REPORT COMMENTS

Why can't war fighters have tatoo's? This is a silly debate all together. Our energy could be better spent hardening our force instead of these silly political arguments. Let's get back to work on what matters ! This is not going to affect the end of the world. Let's get rid of it and move on to important things.REPORT COMMENTS

I'm prior enlisted leaving the Marines in 2005 after 5 years active duty and a tour in Iraq. I was denied joining the ranks again in 2009 for excessive tattoos. Coming from the infantry 80% of my old unit wouldn't have been able to meet the policy as new joins.REPORT COMMENTS

i also have been denied to serve with the marines due to my tattoos which are non offensive in any way. I think this is ridiculous for brave honest men to be turned down from swing their country because we have tattoos! This policy needs to change as long as their not visible in bull uniform there should be no problem ! It's sad to say we actually want to serve this country but because of tattoos we can't!REPORT COMMENTS

I tried reenlisting after getting two wrist tattoos, "Carpe" on my left wrist, "Diem" on the right. Because the tip top of these tattoos is closer than 2inches from the base of my hand, I was turned away. I've heard recruiters say they unfortunately have to turn highly prospective applicants away for simple things just like me. I'd like to see it changed for sure, if only slightly relaxed or a waiver process would be excellent.REPORT COMMENTS

My husband is a loyal Marine who enlisted in 2004. He has served in Iraq and Afghanistan. He has completed a bachelors program using TA while in the Corps. He would (and has) laid his life on the line for his fellow Marines and his country and yet he is discriminated against because of the sleeves he got back in 2005. His tattoos are not vulgar, they are not offensive. The current tattoo policy needs to be revised. My husband has worked so hard to get this far, only to be patronized by high ranking officials and denied a chance to be an officer. Something needs to change.REPORT COMMENTS
