This is discrimination and breaks everything America stands for the home of the free. where no racism will take place but from the looks of it our own government is being the first to judge men and women with tattoos it is a disgrace and a very sad day when men and women who want to defend this country at their own will are being turned away because of how they look. Ever heard of don't judge a book by its cover!!!!!Apr 11th, 2014Someone from Putnam Valley, NY writes:
For someone who wants to fight for our country, tattoos should not affect whether or not they should be allowed to. My dream is to be a Marine and just because my tattoos go outside of the regulations I have to find another plan and give up on my dream.REPORT COMMENTS

A lot of these individual's signing are doing so, not in regards to the 'grandfathered' aspect, but simply for the sanctioning of the old tattoo policy. Marines will tell you that tradition is what keeps our corps great, yet changes are made to accommodate the world, instead of shape it. In that sense, Marines have submitted. submitted to the eyes of men in suits and ties. A sickening concept, but inevitable I suppose, eventually people expect the beast to be tame, then wonder where their fangs have gone when it comes time to bite.REPORT COMMENTS

Do away with this policy. There are plenty of squared-away former Marines who would love to re-enlist. Many have impecable records but it is unfortunate that they cannot reenlist due to their tattoos instead of being judged by their conduct and service record.REPORT COMMENTS

The current policy is completely discriminatory. we do not judge one by the color of there skin, tattoos should not be be treated differently if they are not profane, derogatory, or vulgar.REPORT COMMENTS

This policy does need to change it is being discriminative against Marines that have devoted their lives to the Marine Corps and willing to put their lives at stake for their country. Just found out the new policy that was released in 2010 is denying enlisted Marines to apply to the Warrant Officer and commissioning programs. Once again the word is not getting out and Marines are getting effected. There also needs to be more than one Marine judging a Marines tattoo to determine if its eligible.REPORT COMMENTS
