I emigrated to USA from Canada. I have worked in USA for 17 years and receive Social Security along with my Canada Pension. My SS benefit is reduced by roughly 33% due to WEP. I feel "robbed" Why in the world am I receiving a reduced US benefit due to what I earned in another country.REPORT COMMENTS

This repeal has been in the works for too long. But as far as I can determine, nothing has been done except talk. The GPO and WEP are unfair and penalize public employees who really need the money after retirement. No one in the private sector is penalized for having Social Security and a private retirement income. PLEASE SUPPORT H.R. 1795 to repeal this unfair penalty for public retirees. Thank you, Retired school system employee.REPORT COMMENTS

It is totally unfair to us workers and we are hoping that Congress will amend this act. We should be able to draw from the WEP and Social Security both without being penalized. We have paid into this for years. Please help us the working person! Thank youREPORT COMMENTS

I worked 26 years in the public sector paying into social security, now I'm in local government and I'm going to be penalized. I'm not young enough to accrue a pension big enough to live off of, so I'll also be dependent on social security. Taking a chunk of my social security will force me to work longer or work another 4 years in the public sector too lessen the penalty. Please repeal the very unfair H.R.1795REPORT COMMENTS

If you will repeal the GPO, this 70-year-old will be able to retire and leave my job open for a younger person. If you do not repeal the GPO, I will never be able to retire. Texas Teachers have not received a cost-of-living raise since my retirement in 2001, and my social security was cut by 2/3 because of the GPO. I reached the 30 year limit to eliminate the WEP just this year. I do not want to apply for VA disability and I am too proud to ask for food stamps or welfare in my old age. I don't expect to live another decade, but I didn't really expect to make it to 70, either.REPORT COMMENTS

My wife had to apply or face a penalty. I was talking with the clerk when his female supervisor walked up to the window and started talking down to me like I was the scum of the earth. I didn't know WEP affected my wife of 47 years. She would receive Medicare Part A & B and 2.50 in cash. Would be Medicare and 140 Had I not defended this country for 22 years and served 35 years civil service. Talk about a great full nation!REPORT COMMENTS

I retired as a single mom from teaching not knowing I would not get the SS promised to me in a letter each year, I worked for 13 years after divorcing my husband. Three of those for no pension so i get a pension of 900. And SS pays me. 335 105 of that to Medicare, because of windfall elimination my SS was reduced in half I contributed 21 years, my husband of 30 years paid over 35 years, I get 0 from him because of Gov.. Off set, so I am at poverty level. After three years of retirement now 69 in Feb. I have to sell my home, my mtg. Payments are 800. Being in the red I have exhausted my savings. This is so unfair when I hear illegals get SS. I am a five generation American.REPORT COMMENTS

I am a substitute teacher who has to pay into the Teacher Retirement system. Unfortunately I have not collected any of that pension, because of the Windfall Elimination Provisions. Substitute teachers do not make much money. In Illinois instead of putting substitutes into a separate pension from the teachers, whereby we'd be paying into Social Security, and consequently would be able to collect BOTH my pension and Social Security. Right now I'm not collecting my teachers pension, which I PAID INTO FOR TWENTY YEARS,because my Social Security payments would be reduced because of WEP!! If I take a lump sum, Social Security gets reduced!!!! This tax is totally UNFAIR, especially for substitute teachers , who don't make much money. If you paid into a pension and Social Security, then you're ENTITLED to both! This law should be REPEALED completely. This country is very wealthy, and S.S. Won't go broke. If we weren't spending money for all these wars, sending aid to everyone, and wasting our money on defense.REPORT COMMENTS

I am a former teacher from California receiving a small pension from 12.92 years of teaching. My deceased husband was retired from the Federal Government, and because he chose survivor benefits, he received less while alive. He also had more than enough Social Security quarters to qualify for Social Security, even working after retirement to add more quarters. He passed away at age 58, so never received Social Security. Because I receive my small teacher's pension, I receive less SS than I would have received had I stayed home and not worked to put our children through college. After Medicare is taken out of his SS, the most I have received is about $200 per month. Because of the GPO, every October when I receive a COLA of $10 per month from my California.STRS, I receive a letter the very next day from SS wanting to know how much I am getting for my retirement, and they then take about one-third of the amount of my COLA and subtract if from my SS. I have 38 quarters of my own SS, but not enough to get my own. I feel it is an unjust law that hurts people who try to work hard and save for retirement.REPORT COMMENTS
