Yes. I want to serve my country in the army. I grew up in foster care and I needed structure. The army could have given that to me. Although I had made a poor choice, I turned around and graduated college. Less than 3% of emancipated foster youth finish a four year degree. I am part of that 3%. Youth like me need an opportunity to create a better life, allow felons to get the structure they need! And to honor the country of the United States of America.REPORT COMMENTS

As I became an adult I was consumed with the desire to join the military and fight for my country, at the age of 22 I've tried enlisting in every branch but was denied for a felony I obtained when I was 13. I haven't had any other charges other than one or two misdemeanors. I feel being that its been almost a decade since any serious crime I should be eligible to serve my country especially when in the old days it was given to criminals as a choice. Military or jail.REPORT COMMENTS

I am a first time felon I was drunk not in my right mind and did some stupid things . Fortunately I didn't hurt noone. But I still got arrested. Im on probation now. But I really wish I could change my life because the way I'm living I'm gonna end up dead or in prison for life. I tried joining marine army Navy national guard and they turned me down. I really think you should give first time felons a chance to join. Because like me I regret my actions and truly want to change my lifestyle. Thank you for your timeREPORT COMMENTS

Serving, it is something that I took for granted. I am 27 now and enlisted when i was 18 I was discharged after a younger more gullible me trusted and was led by others in my unit to try smoking weed. After discharge I was devastated turning to misfits and trouble to fit in and stupidly committed a felony grand larceny trying to survive. After hitting bottom I have tried to pull together the pieces of my life to move forward however I always come back to Serving. If a felon would be allowed to join I would like to be first in line I want to serve my country again I was young, I was stupid and naive. I am not saying everyone should be granted a waver but if one could be passed on my behalf I would be living my dream, to live a soldier's life. I cannot change what i did but people do learn and mature one chance is all I need.REPORT COMMENTS

I support this petition, and even suggest an alternative program to give individuals the opportunity to pass and show their moral character is trustworthy and respectable enough to join the military, and serve their country. Many men and women like myself would be honored to serve our country in the military. I would even be willing to give my service with no pay, just to give my service and sacrifice to my country which I love.REPORT COMMENTS

To be honest I've been on the wrong side of the law and caught a fe w felonies, but I was young I served my time didn't complain accepted the consequences of my actions and paid my debt to society for my crimes. Most my problems came through high school or right after and I was young feeling invincible had drug issues and didn't yet have a family that means the world to me. I even went through an intensive drug court program/probation period I voluntarily agreed to do upon my sentencing to avoid ending up in the same situations again. My convection is over 7 years ago I've not been in any trouble except for a sticker on my license plate I forgot to renew on time the year they didn't send out letter but I didn't complain i understood o should of paid better attention to my surroundings I'm not a child no one is here to hold my hand . I do however love my country respect the police for doing a job and recognize the importance they are to bringing safety to there communities and how I see it o would be honored to be able to protect not just my family but the way of life of my country instead of being inherently judged from a few past actions when I was younger. People go through different things in there lives but it doesn't mean we don't change get prioritys together and want to better not only ourselves but to help guarantee that the country my daughters grow up in is secure and even better than when I was there age freedom is a great thing but it isn't free and I would love to be able to pay my dues to this great nation.REPORT COMMENTS

I am in full support of this petition. As an American we should trust the elected "system" to actually work and be relied upon to rehabilitate people that have had some short comings in life, noone is perfect. Allow them the opportunity to regain a righteous position in our communities, and be of service to our great nation. At this time, once in the system, you are placed in a category that will ultimately eliminate most options of being able to provide for your family's future. That is the reason the return rate is so high, because people willing to do right are ridiculed and exiled for their past behavior, tgey are forced to desperately return to the life the once knew and wanted to leave behind, but society wont acceot them so what else can they do when the bills are due? The military at one point was seen as a way out of prison, now it could be a way out of trouble and an investment to our society to instill the structure and discipline we all desperately need. These people have served their time, endured their specified punishment, so why do they have to suffer through a lifelong punishment. America, the land of opportunity, only if you dont ever make a mistake or poor decision... Lets eliminate that las part and as our new President puts it "make America great again!"REPORT COMMENTS
