It's hard being a felon alot of us have trouble getting good wages there is a saying from from sheriff joe arpio "Don't do the crime if you can't do the time" Well sir I've completed my time as well as reintegrated my self back into the community by jumping through various hoops and succesfully completing probation. Yet I still feel as if I'm doing time, by getting turned down job after job. Well I am begging you to give us a second chance at redemption. I understand some of our society is skeptical of people with a criminal record trying to live straight lifestyle. Alot of times ex cons revert back to the same thing is because we're frowned upon as if once you've done a bad deed, you'll never be able to do a good deed again and thats not true. We're just not givin alot of opportunities. We're counting on you Congress. I'm asking you to consider giving the opportunity for ex cons men and women alike to serve their country and be on the front lines of any conflict to prove our Strength,Bravery,Honor & Commitment to being accepted by our society. And become a model citizen. We are stronger in numbers as a "whole country" let's start to heal this division . Thank you for your timeĀ - sincerely a concerned citizen ! P.S who knows maybe when we come home the jobs we apply for won't see our past records. Also just maybe we could even file to restore our Constitutional rights that have been stripped from us. -

I believe that felons should be used to help bolster the military force for re admittance into society. My reason / question is, upon the release of a felon that has no where to go, would you rather have him / her walking the streets with a better chance of committing a crime? Or, would you have them serve in the military and helping defend our country as well as learning to be a part of society and rebuilding their life.REPORT COMMENTS

At the young age of 18 I committed a pity crime in the state of Arizona and I am now a felon. After I'm off probation I won't be anymore but the military still sees me as a felon. When I was convinced I was enlisting into the United States Army and lost my contract after I was found guilty. I would have been better off getting the discipline of our military and learned better values then I have. I can't find a good job and my fines are outrageous. If I had the opportunity to enlist and do my duty in the military I would've been better off then I am now. Please consider this.REPORT COMMENTS

How are people to better themselves if all of their chances taken away. They served their time, and unfortunately many have a social stigma attached to them for life. Why continue to punish? Denying felons the opportunity to join the military, or various other jobs isn't helping anyone.REPORT COMMENTS

I wanted to join the Marine Corp when I was 17yrs old. They told me that I needed to be 18 and have my GED or HS Diploma. I was out on my own, had lost my job and had been looking fir a job for 5 months. I lost my apartment and was sleeping from couch to couch. I came across a drug deal tbat i could make $1000 and i jumped on it. I needed the money to live. I got caught, did my time, finished my probation, all without any violations. I still wanted to join the military but couldn't due to that mistake that I had done my time for. Well, I screwed up doing the same thing again because I found myself years later with a child and about to be homeless. I got caught again, did my time and finished my probation without a hiccup again. I NEVER WANTED to sell drugs but was desperate. After becoming a felon from drug charges at 18yrs old, I was unable to receive government benefits also. So I did what I had to to take care of my son. He is now 12yrs old and i am about to be 37, and believe it it not, I STILL want to join the military. I just want to make something if my life and make my son proud. I do not understand why non violent offenders cannot defend their country.REPORT COMMENTS

During my sentence I was a woodland fire fighter. It instilled a discipline in me that has made me a solid individual. The correctional officers at the camp in which I was stationed were all exmilitary. They believed I would have been a genuine addition to the armed forces because of my inherit intelligence and physical prowess. When I was released I wanted to join more than anything because I truly felt as if I was made for military work, but I was turned away because of my record and because of tattoos I had received before I wisened up. What is the logic behind this and who has been turned away from a lifestyle they may have been born to fill simply because of aesthetics and deeds done that were already paid for. Some people are born certain attributes and some are trained to have them. There is a story from the Hagakure which states that a guard was attempting to join the palace guard. Upon review of his record they found a criminal past. The majority of the counselors denied his application because of his past; one counselor vouched for him. When asked how he could vouch for the man the counselor stated " because he has made a mistake". They asked how he could guarantee based purely on this; he stated " he who has made a mistake better knows his limitations. He who has not is dangerous"REPORT COMMENTS

My name is Frank, I?m 35 years old and I?m a citizen of the United States of America. I?m the father of four girls and reside with my girlfriend who has been enlisted in the U.S, Army for the past six years. The reason I am writing to you is concerning my criminal background that I?ve had to live with for the past 24 years since I was 11 years old. I am categorized as a sexual predator to the State of Florida. I?ve had this conviction since August 29th, 1995. I tried to appeal this case on June 11, 2008 but the appeal was denied to correct the illegal sentence. The reason for this was that after the sex offense charge which was going to be closed, I committed an armed robbery August 30th, 1996 which made it worse for me because I went to an adult court and got sentenced as a youthful offender and as an adult which I was only supposed to get sentenced as one, either an adult or a juvenile. Besides that with 16 years probation, two years community control, five years of therapy classes with a lying detector test and high school completion. I completed and passed everything the system asked me to do. I educated myself and never got into trouble again after the mistakes I did as a child. It wasn?t easy living with all the conditions and the living arrangements that the system put me through. As for now, it has been very hard for me to support my family and to live a normal life starting from the point that my weekly income is less than $200. I cannot get a good paying job because of this charge. It has gotten to the point that I don?t know what else to do about this matter and I have no money to take it to higher court to have it removed. I am writing to you to please help me resolve this issue so that I can find a better way of life in supporting my family and achieve my goals which have always been to be part of the Armed Forces and to fight for my country. Please take this letter into consideration and thank you for taking the time to read this. Sincerely,REPORT COMMENTS
