Give me a chance to serve my country i think you should let people with records join obviously not murder's. I personally would love to get another chance at life. Its hard for me to get a good paying job. Just think it over most convicts return to jail right away give the guys who stay out for more than a year the chance to serve i think thats fair

I was charged with multiple felonies because i witnessed an argument in a language i dont even speak. I didnt know that this person was making verbal threats until a few months later in jail and my lawyer brought the paperwork. I didnt have a record, let alone a violent one. I spent almost a year behind bars trying to fight for my freedom. Eventually they said i wasnt the person in fault, but because of my proximity and relation to the person giving verbal threats i was charged with a violent crime. Now i cant get a job anywhere and i have been turned down from the military. ive been homeless for 3 months now. There are so many people who didnt deserve the charges, but even if one has had a bad past, they deserve to try and get a new start in life with real discipline. I come from military background on both sides of my family. i would like to continue that.

Feel just cause people make mistakes in there past is no reason based on what you wher convicted on i understand. To a certain point. But a man that has a drive in him to better himself and serve the his country as my grandfather did and many of my friends did to give us a chance to be all we can be

I agreee but it also depends on what kind of felon, like for example rapist?no thuays a big no but like small time felon who only made one miatake then a green light. Everyome deserve a 2nd chance, what we should do is put them in a trial period for a few months to keep track and how they act and treat their fellow comrades after that they can be sent off to basic amd such.

I agree with this article. I am a young man born and raised in the US and would love an opportunity to serve my country and not only protect the ideals we stand for but make amends for my foolish decisions in the past. I would consider it unconstitutional to waive my right the pursuit of happiness by denying me the chance to do something that will make me happy, serving in the military of my nation.

I agree with most if not all of the comments below. I served in Afghanistan in 2003 with the 82na ABN DIV, I had a private assigned to me who was a felon, a superb solder. I just ran into him again a few months ago, this young private was now a SFC with just 6 more years until his retirement. 5 tours over seas between Iraq and Afghanistan, married with 4 children. If it wasn't for his being able to join there is no telling where he may have ended up. Give these men the opportunity to prove themselves.

I lost my chance to serve my country when I was just 17. It has haunted me almost everyday since. I would give anything to take it back... I would give up everything to serve my country. So many have given their lives for our freedoms. I would step up in the blink of an eye, to show them that all was not in vain. I made mistakes, but I would happily and honorably walk in the path that they have made.

8 years ago was going through the process of getting into the military took asvab all that good stuff and ended up getting into some trouble and had felony charges but my recruiter continued trying to get me in told me before my court date that I'd still be good to go with a felony so I was tired of waiting and going through the judicial process and took a plea of felony larceny so I could go on do my service for this great country. Next day after taking this plea he recommended says nothing they could do with me now. I was heartbroken over situation but did what I had to do I've held steady jobs even went got my cdl o. My on. Stayed out of trouble this whole time and would love nothing more than to be able to serve my country!!!

Everyone messes up some more than others but if someone has had felony convictions and has changed there lives I believe they should be given a chance to join to prove to themselves, their family, their county, and most important God(or whatever their higher power maybe.) That they have changed and can be a useful member of society. Just make it more strict for them at first meaning ANY infractions and there gone. I know me along with thousands of other convicted felons that are trying to do right it is very difficult not only finding a job but a purpose. That's why so many people reoffend. I know I would love the opportunity to serve my county and be a good soldier and man.

I agree with allowing felons in the military and hope it happens. It can have a much more positive outcome like improving lives of the individuals and their loved ones. It can also give a sense of worth to the felon, especially if it allows record expungement. It also makes sense to pay them to defend this country instead of lying around eating, playing cards, and watching TV while we support them. Please help pass this and make this country a better place to live.

I think if a person can prove change and be disciplined by the court system for a mistake they have made should not be accounted against them and shunned from society. They want to help protect our country and serve our country by learning discipline and try to better themselves. You can't hold a person down. We are human. We make mistakes. Some people regret them. And feel sorry for what they did. And won't do it again. Not fair to hold someone back for something they regret to the fullest.

I have tried time and time again to no avail. I have felonies on my record and I believe the military would give young men like myself the discipline as well as build our character and moral fiber. I love my country and I am bothered by the fact that I am not allowed to serve my part in protecting our freedoms and rights for the rest of America to enjoy.

I have wanted to enlist for so long, but I have 2 felonies on my record and every recruiter I've called gives me an immediate no. I have been in the laborers union local 242 for 3 years and made 65k last year so I would not be doing it for the money. I just want to serve my country and give my life a real purpose, do something my wife and kids can be really proud of.

I believe in second chances. I myself am a felon and was charged only because I was too afraid to testify against my codefendant when I was in my early 20's. I was given an identical charge to boot even though it was clear I didn't commit the crime. Having served prison time and half of my sentence, I have come back motivated and have beyond proven my worthiness. I want to join the military and know for a fact I would be an asset mentally and physically but am getting push back because of my charge. People need to be supported and allowed a chance to redeem themselves.

Could only make you morally obligated, and show the world we can fix anything.
